Off Topic / Re: Are Any VGCollectors Also Movie Collectors?
« on: July 21, 2020, 09:55:50 am »
I'm mainly into Blu-Ray collecting (primarily Horror/Sci-Fi/World Cinema, although I like the occasional animated film). Does anyone use a similar website for cataloging their collection like we have here on VGC?

A warm welcome indeed! I'll give you a follow - looking forward to seeing your collection grow  :D

That's good news, even if the disc itself works okay, I wouldn't be able to stand having the horrible reproduction artwork staring out of the shelf at me  :D

That's unfortunate! I've personally never used 365 Games, but I understand that they operate on a similar basis to CeX in the UK. The quality control is not great (putting it politely) on second-hand games, although that's very unusual that they would reseal a game to market it as new.

I'd personally e-mail them about your complaint, as they should honour a return/refund if the item is not what you asked for (i.e. a brand new copy of that game, not one with a reprinted cover/fake disc).

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: "Grey" or "Gray"? - Style Discussion
« on: November 22, 2019, 08:39:48 am »
Being from the UK, we almost always use the spelling 'grey'. Then again, I'd have no problems with the 'gray' spelling if this is common in other PAL regions. At least we all know what colour we're talking about  ;)

It's always quite disheartening to see this kind of behaviour on eBay. I buy most of my gaming items on eBay, and I can safely say that I would be absolutely mortified to ever do "the ol' switcheroo" or claim an item hadn't arrived. I very rarely actually sell on eBay so haven't had any negative selling experience, but I think this goes to show that there are certainly disingenuous buyers out there (but we're not all terrible, especially the fine folks on this forum!)  :)

A very warm welcome from the UK! We're certainly a friendly bunch here, and I'm sure all of us also have a massive backlog. I'll give you a follow - I'm looking forward to seeing how your collection grows  :)

Classic Video Games / Re: Who has best cover arts? Japan or US?
« on: March 03, 2019, 10:58:30 am »
I'd also like to make a strong case in support of PAL covers. I think the original Silent Hill on PS1 is a prime example. While I'm UK-based and therefore a bit biased, I find the PAL cover to be far more stylish and mysterious than either of the US or Japanese covers (frankly, I'm not a fan of the US cover at all).

Overall, I'd give the edge to Japanese covers, if only for the generally more varied and vibrant art styles. It's always great to hear other people's opinions on this kind of thing, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as it develops  ;D

Welcome aboard, Austin! I'm also semi-new to the forum, so always good to see a fellow budding collector! I'll give you a follow - you already have some great titles in your collection, so looking forward to seeing it expand  :)

General / Re: What is the most common item on vgcollect?
« on: February 22, 2019, 02:15:24 pm »
This is a great question, but I think it might be tricky to quantify. As in, are we taking an aggregate of a game's collectors throughout all regions (NTSC, PAL, JAP, AUS etc.) or just one per region?

Either way, would love to get a definite answer on this one too  :)

General / Re: Favorite games soundtrack(s)?
« on: February 15, 2019, 05:19:14 pm »
I absolutely adore the soundtracks to Pikmin and Heavy Rain (no difference there, right)? I even listen to the latter on the train to work sometimes, it's just so dramatic and enjoyable.

I'm not sure if we're counting rhythm games, but I would put Amplitude on PS4 at the top of my list for that. Not one bad song in the game.

I always love hearing everyone else's favourites, particularly for games I haven't played and should check out!  :)

This is definitely an interesting idea! My only concern is that for many collectors on this site who have a huge amount of games already, it could be quite difficult to remember how much we spent on one particular game. It'd definitely be a cool idea going forward though, and would be interested to see if such a thing crops up in future  :D

General / Re: Prized possessions
« on: January 16, 2019, 04:55:28 pm »
You guys certainly have some impressive items in your collections! My 'prized possessions' are a bit more low-key, but my top three would be:

1. Chibi-Robo on Gamecube (rare on PAL format, CIB)
2. Xenoblade Chronicles Special Edition w/ Pro Controller Combo Pack (CIB)
3. Crash Bandicoot 3 on PS1 - certainly not rare or valuable, but the first video game I owned (purchased for me as a gift on my 5th birthday, and I still have the note from the relative I received it from tucked behind the manual). So this one is purely sentimental ;D

Really interesting to hear everyone's different perspectives on this thread, and it gives me some more valuable collecting goals in future!
