Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Where to request a genre?
« on: March 28, 2019, 03:56:09 pm »
Staying in the genre topic:

Is "adventure" intended only for "point & click adventure" (and games like that, Grim Fandango remastered i.e.)?
Am I right?

Video Game Database Discussion / How to insert merchandise and extras?
« on: March 28, 2019, 03:39:34 pm »
The title says it all.

In particular I have two items that I would want to insert, both are giant cardboard boxes that replicate the case of Fighting Force PS1 and Silent Hill 3 PS2.
Those items were used in the shop for AD purposes and I asked the shopkeeper to have those (instead of him likely thrashing them, so they are quite rare I guess, because they weren't for sale), obviously they are not coded in any way.

Moreover I have some extra stuff that came as a pre-order bonus (rather a booking with a small deposit than a real pre-order, actually) not included in the game packcage (mugs, keychains, figures, steelbooks, T-shirts...) and I was wondering if there is a category I'm missing to have them listed in the collection (with pictures).
I tried seraching for "merchandise" in the drop down list but I can't find it.

I also have some steelbook editions that have a "cardboard dust jacket" that replicates the base game cover artwork, which one do I have to scan for a submission? (I would go with the steelbook artwork, but I thought to better ask here before).

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I just made a double post by mistake.
Clicked submit, canceled during loading, added details and submitted again, result: double post.

I have a good feedling that #2 is correct, but I do not know enough about where those types of places may be.

Switzerland. :)

Our default for EU games are:
1. European English release
2. UK release

So a game that has no TLD on it will be one of those. Games only get to have [UK] on the title if there is a European English release. If a game is in the DB with no information like that, the information from the version released in England should be put onto that entry.

I assumed that, the only instance I submitted an edit is when I found matching barcode (if it was already present)

...If the same game is also released in Italy, and has an SIAE label on it, it is only [IT], and the other one without the label is only [ES].

I apologise in advance for my "engRish".

The problem lies in the SIAE label being applied, sometimes, on the external sealing of the game, it seems completely at random.
So I have games with the SIAE's sticker aon the case, and games without it; games where I personally detached the sticker and re-applied it once I removed the plastic sealing.
So, I think, it isn't solid enough to be considered for judgement of correct submission; in theory it is, but actually it isn't; it's just my opinion and I can't suggest a better way, so take it for what it is, just a point of view.

Where can we verify if there are multliple editions of a game for the same country?
I ask because I stumbled across a multi 4 entry of a game (with IT among them, back cover in 4 languages) but I own a copy with only italian on the back cover and I'm confident that it is the only edition actually sold in italy, in terms of base game standard edition (I went with submitting an IT version anyway).

The problem with making those fields mandatory is that some games do not have an item number or a proper barcode (yes, it can happen, especially with older/obscure games) or someone wanting to add a game to his/her collection doesn't have the original box anymore (yes, even more shocking from a collector's point of view).

Interesting.
Atari cartridges comes to mind speaking of this.

I personally would like to see "fully fleashed out" entries across the board, but hey, it is what it is. Do your best to fill out what's missing, as long as the information is accurate. This is very much needed for the EU categories.

Yes, EU market is a mess and very complicated to sort out.

Looking at my collection (started in 1995) this sounds daunting LOL, they're quite all italian versions (only a small part are actually multi 3 or multi 5), I'll have to submit A LOT of entries before seeing my collection completely uploaded T_T

Replace the descriptors with the TLD instead and try again.

Will do it asap

Hi everyone,

I noticed that there are many entries labelled EU but in the actual page there's only the name, the amazon price of the game and a front cover.

From my experience is very rare that there is just one global EU version for a game, so uploading an entry like that is misleading and incorrect more often than not (and useless).

Wouldn't it be better to make some mandatory fields in the submission page (item number and barcode i.e.)?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance :)

Video Game Database Discussion / Where to request a genre?
« on: March 22, 2019, 11:02:42 am »
I'm adding the Italian version of Metal Gear Solid but I notice that in the genre 'stealth' is not present.

I see a platform request thread along with a developer/publisher one, but no genre request thread.

Does stealth belongs to another genre?

In the meantime I'll leave it blank

Thanks in advance for the answers

I just submitted the [IT] edit in the name as you suggested, thanks for the help.  :)

I'm willing to become confident soon enough with how the things work here around, I have a HUGE catalogue and it will require me a long time to create my collection page (I have around 2000 titles plus accessories, consoles and collectors' editions with soundtracks, figures and all that stuff).

I definitely don't want to add duplicates entries or franken-entries, I will improve my contributions going on :) or, at least, I'll do my best to not screw things up :)

Dino Crisis has a different serial number, I added SLES-02210, the one you linked has SLES-02207

As for DD2, how have I missed it in the dropdown box? Sorry for that, I'll pay more attention in the future.

Hi everyone, I'm a new vgcollect user and I need some help.

I started inserting games in my collection as soon as the confirmation link redirected me on the site, but I noticed that several of the (few) EU games I inserted differs for some details (serial number or barcode i.e.), so I stopped and came here.

Do I have to submit a new item in this event?

I think that's because the EU market is very inhomogeneous (thank you google translate) and it happens that we have several differences in the same game (like the barcode i.e.).

I don't want to bother the admins with useless or inaccurate corrections to the listed games when I have a different copy, I mean instead of helping with submitting a different one.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions/views on the subject.
