Site Feedback / Suggestion: One page per game.
« on: September 29, 2011, 01:59:07 am »
I know! I'm new! I really hate it when I do this but I do think it's a good idea.

So, here's the thing. If I want to add (let's say) Resident Evil 4 to my collection, the first thing would be to search the game. Right now, searching for Resident Evil 4 gives me 7 options. While not confusing since I know which edition I'm going to add, the results can become quite cluttered.

So, how about creating one page for each game and in that page we select which edition we want to add/edit. We could use a criteria (like date, popularity, etc..) to pin one of the editions as the default one (mainly for the purpose of showing basic info).

If you still have doubts, check this out:

http://amzn.com/B002I0JA7E (Deus Ex: HR)

We have, 3 consoles (PS3, 360, PC) and under each one two editions: Normal and CE. That's 6 entries on one page. At the end of the day we would have the same functionality, but with an easier way to search for an item.

What do you guys think?

Ah, so I'll give it a little more priority. I'm terrible at point-and-click games, but I do love them. Thanks for the info guys :)

Already added the game to my collection, sadly my backlog just keeps getting bigger and bigger so it's going to be a while until I play it.

I've actually never heard of the game before, is it any good?

@kaizlu sweet, I heard how terribly broken it was and being a former FFXI player, I was saddened. If they are working to fix it, I may have to give it a try. How does it control on PC? Because if I remember, FFXI on PC was a pain in the ass, you could obviously tell it was meant to be played on PS2 instead.

The game is playable with Keyboard + Mouse (that's how I play), but it's easier to use a controller. The good news is that the dev team is supposedly working on a separate UI design to be more KB+M friendly. I would suggest waiting for the PS3 release if you don't want to be disappointed, or if you have some spare change you can give it a try but think of it as a glorified beta.

How is FFXIV? I've heard a lot of bad things about it.

Right now, way better than when it was released. It still has it flaws, and in some aspects it still feels like a beta but it's pretty fun IMO. Also, the in-game community is great, it does have it's trolls and whiners but what game doesn't :P

It doesn't hurt that they're still not charging to play (most likely they'll begin charging with the PS3 release)

Fallout 3 (PC) (need to add the CE to the db..), I have to say that the game is quite fun. I had no idea what to expect, and since I bought the game on an impulse I was kind of scared. But so far, so good.

FFXIV is the other one, but I haven't played that much lately. I'm waiting for the next patch to rekindle my addiction.

Just finished Fallout 3. Loved the game, and I'll keep playing it since I know there's more stuff to do in the Capital Wasteland. Now, I need to get my hands on the DLC (at least Broken Steel) and the CE for New Vegas!

Finished  Metro 2033 the other day. Gotta say, I was expecting a interactive benchmark and I got a really good game. Took me a while to get into it, but at some point (have no idea when it happened) I was just teeming with anticipation to finish it and see the ending.

PS: I hate librarians.

I had to adquire the game trought other means, just played for about 5 hours and loved it.

But, I'm keeping my word and I'll import the game as soon as I have some spare money. Found the game real cheap at game.co.uk (£34.94, overseas shipping included) so it's about a full-priced game over here. (edit: read the post and noticed it looked like an ad, but rest assured, I'm just sharing a good deal)

How do you enable your Wii to play PAL games? 'Cause I really want Xenoblade... Darn NoA.

Try this guide http://youtu.be/GnQU34wCIoM That's the one that I used, it doesn't take that much time also. (ps. there are better guides, but at least I can vouch for the one I posted)

Got .hack//Infection for 5 bucks (with anime DVD included). I don't know if I'm going to play it now or wait until I get my hands on the other 3 parts.

Also, got Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories. Like new, and black label. Another game for my collection = another game added to the backlog. :(

Cartridge only:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Game-Nintendo-GBA-DS-Final-Fantasy-V-/290618187863?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43aa31a057

CIB:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Final-Fantasy-Advance-Collection-Final-Fantasy-1-2-4-/290617781052?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43aa2b6b3c (and you get three other games with it for that price, all CIB)

It ain't fun without the box and manual :( The other auction seems fine, but I already have the other games.

I lost an auction today, the game (FFV A) went from 9.99 to about 28. After the disappointing defeat and the urge to spend money on things I don't need (you know that feeling) I bought the game for _____ (won't say!, too ashamed)

With that, I only need XI and XII. Almost there! (also, got FF X-2)

My wallet is scared.

Let's say I had a bad "Chinese experience" last year with eBay. I gave it a another try last week. And got:

- Resident Evil 3 (GC)
- Metroid Prime 2
- TLoZ: Spirit Tracks

All of them under 10 bucks each. And Spirit Tracks was new. Right now I'm trying to get Final Fantasy V for the GBA, but the prices for that game are kind of ridiculous. Funny how it's cheaper to buy any of the 3 PSX FF games compared to the GBA ones.

A few days ago I "discovered" a webpage where users can sell their games, and got Final Fantasy III (DS) pretty cheap (8 dlls/shipping included). With that I only need FFV, FFXI and FXIII to have all the numbered games of the series.

I know, it's not going to be THE Final Fantasy collection, but as long as I can say "I have all of the numbered FF games" I'll be happy.

Also, for that to work, we'd have to make sure that our stat's page is finished and working properly. Currently, I think most of the info is incorrect. Plus, I'm not sure if you've all noticed, but some things like the developer and publish lists are mucked up.... there are currently well over 20 "Sonic Team"s listed in the developer list... I have no idea why.

About the elopers/publishers list, I noticed that once I began adding the games I have. At the end of the day, it's true - Nintendo, SE, and other companies have different and (sometimes) numerous teams, but I think the list should only have the main name (like Nintendo, Capcom, etc..)

The only solution I can think of is a manual clean-up of the current ones, and at the same time block normal users the ability to add a new developers/publishers. We could create a thread to add/edit/delete elopers/publishers that are (or not) in the list.

(^ sorry, offtopic! ^)

Definitely. I always love suggestions. We do have a bunch already lined up that will be launching soon.

How about some badges that have to do with the games we have in our collection? Like RPG maniac, Expert Shooter (for FPS), or something more complex like "old school gamer" if we have a number of games released before set date.
