Classic Video Games / Re: MOST EXPENSIVE GAME!
« on: May 05, 2020, 08:47:34 pm »
10 years ago, I paid 300$ for King of Fighters 2003 for NeoGeo AES, US version. It was like new but without the manual, a common mistake by SNK around that time. I remember few copies of the last released (2001-2004) for the NeoGeo had no manual, that pissed off many collectors. The quality control wasnt the same at SNK after their bankruptcy, (like the Samurai Shodown V Special bug).

Now Im not sure what it worth, I see Japanese version (more common) go for 1700$.

First,  I own a PS4 for 4 years and it is my main console for this generation.

I own a original Xbox since 2002 (40 games), and a Xbox 360 since 2006 (80+ games), so I was a big Xbox fans and they were my favorite consoles. 2013 Xbox One shit show released showed that Microsoft didn't care about their fans and gamers, so I moved on...

Until 6 months ago, I bought a Xbox One S on boxing day for really cheap, so I could play the latest Gears of War and Halo games (2 of my favorite series).

The few titles I own:
-Halo 5
-GOW Remaster
-GOW 4
-Rare Replay
-Killer Instinct
-Tekken 7

With the exception of GOW5 and Halo 6, I don't see myself buying more games for it. I do play a lot of old Xbox and 360 games on it (revisiting all the GOW), and that is a great feature the Xbox One has over the PS4. But again, Microsoft recently pissed me off, they mentioned at E3 they won't make more backward compatible games for the Xbox One, and instead focus on the new "Scarlett". What about people that support your current console? Should they not have access to more exclusive games and support? Now I really don't want to buy any more of their future console and stick with Playstation.

So really, if you see a Xbox One at a really good price, get one, there is few good games, but the PS4 offer so much more.

Hi,

I haven't posted anything in quite a while... here my latest Game Boy review with Solar Striker.

Enjoy!

I bought the Japanese version. Like most review said, the mini cabinet, control and the small screen are great. When hook up on a TV, it doesn't look has good than the NES and SNES mini. You could compare to the quality from old SNK collection released on PS2 and Wii. They look and play fine, but the pixel are not sharp and bright. It also only display in 720P...

I did not bought a extra controller. I'm a huge fan and owner of the Neo Geo CD, and love the controller. But the new one do not have the clicking sound, anyone that played any old SNK system know what Im talking about. The sound and precision of the joystick/pad are quite unique. Also, SNK made the stupid choose to change the button placement, making some games (Metal Slug) stupidly annoying to shoot, jump, and use the grenade. At least they could had a option to customize the button in the option menu...

If your not a big SNK fan, pass it, or wait to see it at discount.

Classic Video Games / Re: SONY PSP, or Nintendo DS or Both For You?
« on: September 19, 2018, 03:53:03 pm »
I have both, but I would say the PSP have better quality games overall, covering all the style. You could also download Playstation 1 games.

And the screen look a lot better that any DS variant. And some model could be connected to your TV.

Classic Video Games / Re: Do You Own a Dreamcast? What Game Drew You In?

Many games made me buy a Dreamcast; Shenmue, Soul Calibur (I loved Soul Blade on PS1), Sword of Berserk (I was a huge fan o f the anime/manga back in the 90s), all the arcade perfect port from Sega/Capcom/SNK...

Still, I bought a expensive Playstation 2 before my Dreamcast... and the Sony console wasn't really that much more impressive (at the beginning), some games actually looked a lot better on Dreamcast (Dead or Alive 2, Grandia 2).

Less than 100$ its cheap for a Neo Geo game... but I get it it's not for everyone.

12
My main issue with the Neo Geo is that most of its games are already available on other consoles in perfect or near perfect ports, which begs the question of why get a Neo Geo at all, even the mini? I had the chance recently to buy an AES for a decent price, but passed on it because getting only a couple games for it would likely cost me just as much as what I paid for the console. Not only that, but the best games for the console have already been ported so is there really a point beyond bragging rights?

to be fair you could say that with any console since most likely it is just a mere fraction of the price whether it would be a digital download or a physical copy

Battle garrega has a ps4 port wich is superior over the saturn version just to name some example.

You could potentially say it for every retro game and system that way also digital since the price difference is pretty substantial if your not going the everdrive route.

You could quit collecting for sega and nintendo systems since both have compialtion consoles or discs with most of the best games for a mere fraction of the price

There is one key factor missing here: ownership.

Buying a game digitally or downloading a rom and playing it on an emulator or device like an everdrive is not ownership. Ownership is one of the key elements of collecting video games and when owning a specific game can be had at a fraction of what it costs on another system then people will often go that route.

The only reason to buy a Neo Geo console is to collect for it because you are really into the system. This is especially true of Neo Geo seeing how even the cheapest games for it cost as much as most more expensive games on other consoles. You have to really love SNK and have major financial resources to get into collecting for it. Sure, there are the few games that have never received a port outside the original AES/MVS hardware, but many of these games are not nearly as good as similar titles on Neo Geo hardware that have been ported.

I would LOVE to own an AES and collect for it, but in order for me to ever do this I'd have to be a lot more financially well off than I am, like as in making a quarter of a million a year or more. I know that making that much would not be necessary to collect for it, but at least to me bringing in that kind of cash would be the only way I could regularly justify paying $300+ for a single video game.

I don't know why everyone think that all the Neo Geo AES games are 300$+, I bought last year Samurai Shodown II loose for 20$ and World Heroes 2 complete for 80$. You need to search, but there is plenty of great titles for 100$ or least. When I look over great titles for NES, SNES, PC Engine, Saturn... complete in box( or even loose), they are usually in the 100-500$ price range, about the same price of an Neo Geo game complete. People just look at the 1000$+ Metal Slug games or Garou MOTW thinking they cannot affort a Neo Geo. Forget about those rare games at have a look at the more common one, there is plenty of amazing affortable games.

My guideline to get cheap Neo Geo AES games; buy japanese games (lot more commun), a game loose is usually half price if you don't care about a complete set, and I found the best deal are from Japanese sellers.

So I’m really not a fighting game fan. So my list will look much different than most here. Not even sure I can come up with 40 titles that I enjoy from SNK. Though the ones  I like are quite good:

1.   Crystalis (NES version) - MUST HAVE IMO, best game on the NES in my book.
2.   Aero Fighters
3.   Aero Fighters 2
4.   Aero Fighters 3
5.   Metal Slug
6.   Metal Slug 2
7.   Metal Slug 3
8.   Metal Slug 4
9.   Metal Slug 5
10.   Metal Slug 6
11.   Metal Slug 7
12.   Last Resort
13.   Magician Lord
14.   Sengoku
15.   Sengoku 2
16.   Sengoku 3
17.   Burning Fight
18.   Shock Troopers
19.   Athena
20.   Guerrilla War
21.   Ikari Warriors
22.   Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road
23.   Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue
24.   Athena
25.   Psycho Soldier (Athena 2)
26.   Vanguard 2
27.   Time Soldiers
28.   Samurai Shodown
29.   Samurai Shodown II
30.   Samurai Shodown III
31.   Samurai Shodown IV
32.   Samurai Shodown V
33.   Samurai Shodown VI
34.   Last Blade
35.   Last Blade 2
36.   The Art of Fighting
37.   King of Fighters (any one of them)

Many of those early titles from the 80s will be on a compilation on the Switch; SNK 40th anniversary.

14
I would want to see Aero Fighter, aka Sonic Wings.

Agree, those 2 games are awesome and rarely ported on other consoles.

15
I bet it's just SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 on cheap emulator hardware.

Since I already own that game on PS2, no need for me to get it.

SNK said it will have 40 games, while SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 only have 16 titles. And according to the "leaked list" 10 titles from SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 won't be on the Neo Geo Mini.
