Modern Video Games / Assassin's Creed Odyssey
« on: October 02, 2018, 01:21:48 pm »
So I've been really looking forward to this game, and it's been getting great reviews so far. I had the Gamestop-exclusive "collector's edition" preordered and went over on my lunch break today to pick it up. Except the reason for the quotes there is...it's NOT a real collector's edition. They ring up the Steelbook version of the game, then they ring up the statue and the system bundles them together. Truth be told, I was afraid this might be the case when, after getting close to release, I still couldn't find any pictures of the Gamestop set AND the contents listed were missing other basic things from the real CE. But I was still pretty disappointed. Just canceled it and downgraded to the regular edition.

On the bright side, used the credit I saved to pay off Salt & Sanctuary and Darksiders III, so that's something.

Just thought I'd give everyone else a heads up on what to expect with this set.  And of course we can discuss the game in general here as well once ppl start playing it. :)

Modern Video Games / Injustice 2 Guild
« on: May 28, 2017, 10:18:44 am »
Since I couldn't find one anywhere, I created a VGCollect Injustice 2 Guild on the PS4 version. I made it private - the ID to search for is PYP16 (that's randomly generated, fyi).

If anyone creates one on the XBone lemme know and I'll add that info here as well. :)

Marketplace / $200 Gamestop gift card for $190
« on: July 21, 2016, 12:24:03 pm »
Like the topic says - I have a $200 Gamestop gift card, but would rather have the cash. I know that's not a huge discount, but if you're looking to make a system purchase or something there then it's a free $10 off. :)

Hardware and Tech / PC Upgrade Tips
« on: June 08, 2015, 05:00:12 pm »
So I haven't gamed on my PC in a bit, but oddly enough my wife has been wanting to do some PC gaming. I'm in the IT field, so I'm no stranger to PC upgrades/builds, but I am out of the loop on newer tech, mainly CPUs and especially video cards. I could barely keep up with video card technology back when I used to work for a place that built PCs. :P

Anyway, I'm thinking of taking my current PC, which I now only use to surf the web/watch YouTube/some light Photoshop, and upgrade it enough to make a good (not bleeding edge, but somewhat robust) gaming machine for her. Maybe get a Steam Link when they come out, depending on reviews, so we don't have to have the PC physically in the living room.

OK, so right now my PC has an Ivy Bridge i3 processor on it w/ 24gb RAM. I'm thinking if I can upgrade the CPU on that instead of buying a new board (and then inevitably having to buy new RAM....) and put a new video card in it, it should make a pretty decent rig. Will a CPU upgrade on that board be worth it? (here's the board for reference:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157229) And what video card should I be looking at? I'm looking to come in under $500 for the upgrades, which I think sounds pretty reasonable given what all I'd be keeping.

Any advice/tips greatly appreciated! :)

Tons of Japanese-developed games on sale this week for PS3, PS4, PSP & Vita.

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/golden-week-sale/cid=STORE-MSF77008-GOLDENWEEKMIXED

I'm not huge on digital games, but I may grab that Battle Princess Arcadia for $12 since it was a digital-only release (and that's a heck of a lot better than the normal $30 price!).

Video Game Database Discussion / Skylanders...What Is Going On Here?
« on: December 12, 2014, 09:26:26 am »
OK, first, I know Soera put most of these in the db so I don't want this to come across as an attack on him, just venting my frustrations/confusion and looking to get some input on the subject. We all have our quirks about how we like things, and mine are as bad as anyone's. :P

OK, I have 2 things to bring up about the Skylanders entries. First is for the "sets". Some of these are sold in sets that include a figure, an item that unlocks a new stage & 2 accessories. Here is an example:

http://vgcollect.com/item/24666

Now I'm *assuming* this entry is for the entire set, but because the main image is just for the part that unlocks the stage it's confusing. So my question here is, is this meant to represent the entire set? If so, I will make an edit to the description that says exactly what's in the set.

This leads to my 2nd question/issue, and kinda the overall problem I have - using the stock drawn artwork is very strange and seems counter to everything else in the db. Even the new Amiibo's are shown in their packaging. I know the stock artwork is easy to find, but it's also not very representative of the figures themselves. And sites like Amazon seem to have clean promo images of the characters in their packaging - for example, http://www.amazon.com/Skylanders-Giants-Character-no-operating-system/dp/B008OSDGV0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418394278&sr=8-1&keywords=skylanders+trigger+happy

If you guys say it's just me I'll crawl back in my hole, but I was just wondering what everyone else's thoughts were on this. :)

Like the topic says, BB is starting a b2g1 sale tomorrow (12/7) that will run for the next week. Since it stacks w/ the GCU, that means you can get 3 full-priced games for $96, or $32/each, before tax. :D Excludes Nintendo titles tho.  :-\

Why ya gotta do me like this Square, and right before Christmas!?!?  :o

Set looks awesome. Guess it's time to see how much I can get out of the 1.5 LE on ebay...  ;)

Marketplace / Complete Me!
« on: November 01, 2014, 12:52:58 pm »
So I had this idea for a thread a week or so ago, but I've just now had time to go through my things to get it setup. A good number of us here have games that are missing something - manual, box, case insert, etc. But I'd wager most of us ALSO have extras of those things for other games that we either already have a complete copy of or for games that we have no interest in ever picking up. So I thought a swap thread specifically for that kind of thing would work well - just list what you have as well as what you're looking for! Maybe working together we can complete some of those poor unfortunate games. ;)

Have:

PS4:
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - case insert

PS3:
Batman: Arkham Origins - manual
Beyond: Two Souls - case insert
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - manual & case insert
God of War III: manual & case insert
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits - manual
Guitar Hero: World Tour - manual
Metro: Last Light - manual, case insert & extra insert/ad
Rock Band: Track Pack Vol. 2 - manual

PS2:
Pinball Hall of Fame: The Gottlieb Collection - manual & case insert
Guitar Hero 5 - manual & case insert

PS1:
Final Fantasy IX - manual

PSP:
Brothers In Arms: D-Day - manual & case insert
Daxter - manual

DS:
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days - slipcover

360:
Prototype 2 - slipcover
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 CE - all extras EXCEPT for the USB drive
Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition - slipcover

Wanted:

PS3:
Rage - slip cover

Wii:
Data East Arcade Collection - manual & case insert
Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire - manual
FlingSmash - outer bundle box
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary - manual
Ocean Commander - manual

PS2:
Pac-Man World 2 - manual
Phantom Brave - manual

PS1:
Disruptor - manual & case insert
Final Fantasy Origins (non-gh) - case insert
Front Mission 3 - manual & case insert
Resident Evil 2 - manual & case w/ inserts (since this is a double-size case I need the case as well)

PSP:
Patapon - manual & case insert
Phantasy Star Portable - manual & case insert

I also need a TON of DS manual & case inserts, way too many to list - so if anyone has any extras just let me know which ones! :)

I'm not talking about Collector's Editions - we all know about Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition & super rare CE's like the ones for Kingdoms of Amalur, Drakengard 3 or Uncharted 2. But the actual games in those sets are identical to the very common ones sold individually, so it's really the extras that are rare - not the games.

So what games truly rare or at least uncommon yet?  These are the ones off the top of my head, and I'd call these more uncommon than rare:

PS3:
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1&2
Afrika
Cross Edge

360:
Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold
...maybe Culdcept Saga or Bullet Witch?

Marketplace / New Sell List - Need Money!!!
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:56:50 am »
I'm in need of money, so I'm selling some things from my collection. I'll try to add some prices later, but in the meantime feel free to send me any reasonable offers. I will provide pics to anything on request. Oh, and everything here is adult owned from a non-smoking home. :)

Majora's Mask New 3DS - Used very little, and when it was used it was in a clear Hori protective case & with screen protectors (which are all included). Complete with box, all instructions & packaging, etc.

The Witch & The Hundred Knight Limited Edition - Complete with everything, including the Nendoroid of the main character. Includes all packaging as well, including the box the Nendoroid came in. Played the game maybe once.

Mugen Souls Z Limited Edition - Complete with everything including the bonus keychain. I don't think I've EVER played this game, as in it's never even been in a system as far as I can remember.

Demon Gaze Limited Edition - This set includes everything except the game! Basically, if you have the standard game and would like to turn it into the LE, this is for you. :)

PS3 Games (all complete & in excellent condition!):
Resident Evil HD (Asian import, region free & completely in English)
Dishonored (Greatest Hits)
Bioshock Infinite (w/ original Bioshock on disk)
Back to the Future

Amiibos!!!!
Full list coming soon, but I have around 45 to sell. Most have been opened, I'd say maybe 6-10 are still sealed. I have the boxes for all, the ones I opened I did so carefully with an exacto knife. I'd much rather sell the whole lot, and will make a better deal to anyone that's interested in doing so.  Will even throw my plastic spice shelves in if someone wants the lot, they are perfect for displaying them. ;)

Site Feedback / Super Nit-Picky Suggestion
« on: October 09, 2014, 06:27:10 pm »
This is very minor but it has bugged me for a while so I thought I'd throw it out there - can we have the drop-down list for the year in the date field go from highest to lowest instead of the reverse (which it is now)? I would think *most* new additions to the database at this point are new releases, and I am pretty sure when adding a game to your collection most people are adding stuff they just picked up.  Having to scroll all the way down to get to "2014" at the bottom of the list, while admittedly minor, is still kinda annoying.  :P :)

I'm a really big fan of the "Metroidvania" style game, and I keep coming across games in that genre that I didn't know about.  Most recently, I just finished Monster Tale - a very fun DS game in the style that also throws in a little Pokemon-esque monster raising.  So what are some other good games in that style, any system, that are NOT part of the Metroid or Castlevania series?  Here are some to get us started:

Tomba 1&2 - PS1 - The second game is fairly rare/sought after these days- the first one is as well to a lesser degree, mainly because you can get it on the PSN.  You're a pink-haired caveman fighting pigs.  It's as silly as it sounds, but a TON of fun - in addition to Metroidvania-style exploration and unlocking new areas by gaining abilities, it has a very nice quest system that really helps to keep you hooked.  Both games are equally great so both are recommended if you can find them.

Strider (2014) - PS3/PS4/360/XBone/PC - I'll admit that I'm not that familiar with the old Strider games.  I dabbled with some of the ports back in the day, but not enough for them to leave a real impression, and I can't say for certain if I've ever played the arcade game or not.  But this newest game is a blast combining great combat and exploration with some really nice 2.5D graphics & a sufficiently thumping soundtrack.

Monster Tale - DS - The game that prompted this thread, Monster Tale is a very cute but deceptively challenging game. You befriend a monster at the beginning of the game and feed/give him different items to up his different stats and evolve him in different ways.  You can switch between any of the unlocked "evolved" forms you've unlocked at any time, and each have their own stats & abilities to learn and master.  Mastered abilities can be equipped regardless of the current form.  Success requires you to use your own combat abilities in combination with the right support abilities from your monster.  Fantastic graphics and a really stand-out soundtrack with a story that manages to be cute without being inane, my only knock against this one is the excessive amount of backtracking required.  But that is easily overlooked because of everything else that the game does right.

So what are some others?  I'll try to keep the OP updated - please, if you suggest one tell a little about it.  I'm not just looking for a list of games in the genre, I could probably find that on wikipedia - I'm looking for really GOOD games that you would recommend! :D
