Classic Video Games / Observation of shrinkwrapping over time
« on: January 12, 2017, 03:42:02 am »
I'm sure some of you are collecting classic old videogames that are still sealed. Have you noticed that the shrinkwrapping seem to... shrink over time? I have noticed this on some of the cardboard boxes that I keep that the shrinkwrapping tend to continue shrinking and deforming the actual packaging. This is problematic for me, since 1) I still want to keep the shrinkwrap 2) I don't want the box to be deformed

Anyone else noticed the same? Any ideas or solution to the problem? At the moment I'm thinking of removing the shrinkwrap since I would rather have the box in good shape

Off Topic / How old is everyone?

If there already is a duplicated thread, please refer me to that one.

Out of curiosity, how old is everyone?

I'll start with myself: 35 :)

Classic Video Games / XRGB-mini Framemeister - Is it worth it?
« on: December 18, 2016, 03:16:11 am »
So, I've been thinking of a way to replace my aging CRTs with something more... flat, and in order to do that I've had my eyes on the XRGB-mini for a while. Is there anyone here that has good/bad experience with it? Would you recommend buying it? It does come with a bit of price

Site Feedback / feature request : Ratings
« on: August 11, 2016, 07:59:29 am »
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to rate each entry with between 1-10 stars and to show an average on all votes on each entry? It works pretty well over at Discogs

I like statistics! I also found out it is possible to see when items in the database have been created. This means that it is possible to see in which direction the database is going, is the activity increasing or decreasing, at what rate etc. I made a simple graph because I wanted to share what I found (and also because I think it's sad that we don't get any official statistics anymore like we used to):

So what does the statistics tell us? That the average number of new games added to the database is steadily increasing!  8)

Site Feedback / Development Backlog
« on: June 21, 2016, 06:44:38 am »
Wouldn't it be nice if you administrators could make the development backlog (or at least part of it) open for all on the forums to see? That way we could see which features are being developed at the moment and also get a sense of progress? Currently it feels like there is not so much progress going on (which might, or might not be correct of course). I think this would solve that to some extent

Site Feedback / VGCollect Roadmap?
« on: February 22, 2016, 09:55:32 am »
I'm curious! We heard that Jason took over as development lead in november, and the latest communicated update we had was a small bugfix in may last year.

So I'm wondering, what is happening behind the scenes? :) Are there any fancy new features that are being worked on? If so, I would be very happy to hear about them :)

Site Feedback / New Badges
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:38:56 am »
I really like the concept of getting badges when doing stuff like editing entries on the site. Why can't we also have badges for the number of new entries a user has created? :) Alternatively, merge the count of New entries and Edits so they both count towards the Edit badges?

Site Feedback / Add screenshots?
« on: December 22, 2015, 03:20:39 pm »
We currently have the possibility to add Front Box Art, Back Box Art and Cart/Disc/Media Art. Wouldn't it be cool to throw in some screenshots aswell? I'm thinking maximum 3 screenshots per entry

Video Game Database Discussion / Power Supplys?
« on: December 17, 2015, 04:35:46 am »
Just a question on exactly what should or should not be in the database. This for example:

http://vgcollect.com/item/65658

Should we really keep track of Power Supplys?

Video Game Database Discussion / Accesssory vs Hardware
« on: December 16, 2015, 07:11:21 am »
Am I right in concluding that if a system has the following structure/categories in the database:

Console Accessory
Console Hardware

The only items belonging into the Hardware category is the actual different versions of the Console itself. All other peripherals/accessories should be put into the Accessory category?

Video Game Database Discussion / Common Accessories
« on: December 16, 2015, 06:51:06 am »
During the 80s/90s a lot of Accessories were developed (well, it's mostly Joysticks actually) that weren't targeted with any specific system/console in mind. They all used the 9-pin connector that were introduced by Atari but could be used by almost any system (Atari/Sega/Amiga/Commodore etc). Where in the database is the best place to create entries for these items?

Video Game Database Discussion / Cart/Disc/Media Art
« on: September 11, 2015, 07:52:46 am »
Currently it is only possible to enter one (1) picture of the Cart/Disc/Media Art for a specific game. The question the arises, how should games that consists of several disks/CDs/DVDs be represented here?

  • Should only the first disk be added?
  • Are there any plans to add the possibility of having more images?

Site Feedback / Possibility of browsing latest entries
« on: April 17, 2015, 03:01:14 am »
I like the idea of being able to browse and see more than the latest 5 entries currently visible on the page. This would make it easier to monitor what is currently added and to correct more entries :)

Video Game Database Discussion / Where to put?
« on: April 08, 2015, 05:03:25 am »
I have a lot of old joysticks that all share the same "Atari-controller port" that was used for the Atari 2600, the Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari ST, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis/Master System etc.

The joysticks were not branded towards any specific console/computer but was sold for "Home computers" in the 80s. Which category do you guys think I should use?
