Hardware and Tech / Disc Resurfacing
« on: January 09, 2014, 12:25:44 am »
Hello all!

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with disc dr/Disc resurfacing.  I'm feeling like I want to transition more into ps1/ps2/xbox360 as they bottom out in price (hopefully), but holy scratches, a LOT of the stuff I find is really messed up.

So I was wondering if a resurfacer might not be a terrible investment.  I found this: on amazon after a post from Brunauss mentioned something about it.  Kinda pricey, but I imagine would be worth it if I was able to save 25-35 discs of varying worth.  I've got a loose windwaker right now that is scratched up, and that's probably worth $20-$30 to someone.

Do you think I need to go that hardcore with it, or would I be able to get by with one of the cheaper solutions?

Any input would be appreciated!

Marketplace / Guitar Hero/Rock Band Guitar Controllers = Really expensive
« on: December 02, 2013, 09:51:19 pm »
So, no one is playing rock band/guitar hero anymore, right?

Harmonix stopped making DLC for the game in February, and aren't making any new IP for the franchise.

So why the heck are all of the hardware controllers still stupid expensive?  I mean, shouldn't we be swimming in controllers that people are tired of cluttering up their respective living rooms?  On amazon/ebay/craigslist most controllers (I was only looking for X360) are upwards of $50-$60.  Bundles are all EASILY over $100.

I've had some friends interested in playing again, but some of my guitar controllers are a little worse for wear, but I'm certainly not going to drop big bucks on it.

What's the deal?

What switchers are you using?

I'm looking for a decent one with lots of inputs, that has IR control, so it can be universal remote'd.

Any suggestions?

And/or, should I not bother with the IR control.

Classic Video Games / Let's Name the top 50 Arcade Cabinets?
« on: November 24, 2013, 02:20:16 pm »
Hey all!

I was putting together a Mame cabinet, and realized I don't think we ever did a "Top" Arcade games.  I'm hoping to see some forgotten gems in the list!  If we already did this, slap me, and direct me.  In that order.

1.)  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I loved that you didn't really get to CHOOSE your character per se, it was just whatever was open.

General / VG Ringtone Help
« on: August 06, 2013, 06:19:16 pm »
I need some help:

For the last month or so, my incoming text notification has been the baby metroid sound from Super Metroid.  I think it's cute, but as I am told from pretty much everyone, it is a really annoying sound.

So I need some new ideas for notification sounds:
  • Something VG related
  • Short (less than 3 seconds)
  • Something I wouldn't mind hearing 20-30 times a day, sometimes in quick succession
  • Something that won't irritate other folks
    • Something that the uninitiated won't recognize.  Mario jumping is a no-no
    • Links to the wav or mp3 versions of said sounds

Thanks for the help!

Flash sale on Steam: Ys I & II Chronicles+ for $5.06  It's cool, you can switch in game from three different versions of the soundtrack, and two different visual styles.

Sale ends at noon central standard time!

Marketplace / What handheld should I buy?
« on: June 06, 2013, 12:52:35 am »
So, the last handheld system I bought was the GBA.  New.  So it's been a while.

I've really avoided handheld systems, because I find that I never have the time to play them.  But I feel like I'm missing out on good gaming experiences.  So, I'm looking for a system to add to the collection.

What would you suggest?
A PSP Variant?  A DS variant?  NGC?

I heard that the graphical slowdown was very pronounced in the PS3 version...

Check out this gallery.  I'm not sure to be really excited by it, or grossed out.  Safe for work, btw.

I heard the game was meh, but that's a sweet price for the art book too.
