Hardware and Tech / Sega Genesis/CD/32X All-in-one power cord?
« on: April 10, 2021, 10:12:19 am »
Three-way power supply?  Would this actually work, or will I burn my house down?  Has anyone used one of these?  It says it puts out a 9v and 3amp charge.

Hardware and Tech / Looking for Gaming PC Ideas
« on: October 28, 2020, 02:05:51 pm »
It's been a few years now since I've had a good gaming PC, up to now I've been using a laptop that doesn't have much power for anything to flashy.  I'm just looking for good recommendations.  Ideally I'd like to build one myself, but I'm not in a good position budget wise for that right now.

So something fairly priced, and that has the potential to last awhile, i.e. won't need to be replaced in a few years.

General / Will Retro Games Ever Disappear from the Market?
« on: August 17, 2020, 01:10:33 pm »
I'm just thinking, do you guys ever think old Atari, NES, Sega, etc. games will stop being sold in game stores or online shops like eBay?  Like, will there come a time when we can't get them anymore unless it's from a friend of a friend?

Is there a situation where this could happen?

I always assume I can just buy the pricier titles later when I'm more financially secure.  But... what if everyone just stops selling one day?  I can't get my hands on  - let's say- The Legend of Zelda for the NES because all the remaining copies have been bought up by collectors who want to keep them.

Hardware and Tech / NES/SNES Cartridge Cleaning kits?
« on: August 12, 2020, 03:12:36 pm »
Can anyone recommend a good one to clean out cartridges with, for deep cleaning I mean?  (I already have the screwdriver) ;)

I'd like to have one handy for those "just in case" moments.

Classic Video Games / New Purchase!
« on: July 05, 2020, 02:33:14 pm »
I finally got Wonder Project J.  Ever since a '94 issue of Nintendo Power showed a preview, I've wanted to play it.  Today is a good day :)

I've noticed there are some people on this site putting their game up in their "sell list", I'm just wondering if there's a way to see all items that are currently being sold without having to browse through the databases?

Like, there should be a tab that lists all games/systems that are currently on the sell list.

General / Gaming Magazines Being Cheap
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:32:04 pm »
This is something I never thought about before, but is collecting Gaming Magazines cheaper than collecting games?  I notice some first issues of Nintendo Power go for between 150-200 on eBay, which is still very cheap imo.  I actually bought Electronic Gaming Monthly #9 for $28 (plus s/h) which I thought was a good deal considering it's age and how good condition it was in (Don't worry, I'm an old eBay afficiando, I ask all the right questions and the guy didn't set off any alarms in my head)  Is it just because magazines aren't as collectible?  Or am I just not seeing the really valuable ones yet?

Maybe I should expand my collection to include the good ol' gaming mags too.

Classic Video Games / My first purchases as a collector!
« on: May 22, 2020, 01:11:54 am »
Today, I officially start my collecting.  I got (I think) some good deals on eBay for four games.  All are cib.

Faxanadu (NES)

Disney Adventure in the Magic Kingdom (NES)

Mixed-Up Mother Goose (Apple II)

Pepper's Adventures in Time (MS-Dos)

General / Does a Game and Box Have to Match Exactly?
« on: March 11, 2020, 09:17:08 pm »
Let's say you get Super Mario Bros 2 without the box, cartridge only.  Then you go on eBay or somewhere and a SMB2 box is for sale (it's not a reproduction case).  Does it matter from a collector standpoint if it's not the original box that particular cartridge came in?  Like, do the serial numbers have to match for it to be "pure"?

General / Help With Games I Vaguely Remember Playing?
« on: January 08, 2020, 12:08:02 pm »
I've been thinking a lot about some old games I remember playing at this one friend's house when we were kids.  I only know the names of a few of them, and my memories of a lot of them are vague.
I thought I'd try to see if any of you have a clue to what I'm talking about.
Some of these might be homebrew, I would have no way of knowing.   I was a wide eyed kid who just found out computers can play games. ;)

1. Your like an archer killing enemies in a forest before they touched you. it was an early 3rd person style. (I feel like with what I recall of the graphics it would have to have been an 80's game, or at least a very early 90s.) and the final boss would be when it's night and everything is darker.  He/It was big and invisible, , you would have to search around and you could only see him in the lightning flash?  It didn't take long to play through.

2. I honestly only remember the first part of this one.  Or maybe it was just one level?  It was co-op, you had to escape a house by going into a secret passage in the floor.  One player had to get to the too of the screen and keep activating an object that made money fall down to the ground to distract the guard while the other escaped through the passage?  I don't think we ever got past it because my friend always stopped using the money maker object and let the guard come kill me before I made it through. >:(

3. I'm pretty sure this was a G.I. Joe game, but I can't find which one.  It was top-down view.  Each level was a single screen.

Sorry, that's all I can remember.

General / What game would you try again, that you were originally bad at?
« on: December 15, 2019, 04:10:15 pm »
Did you ever want to go back and play a game, old or new, that you were simply horrible at?  Like enough that it made you quit and never touch it again.  Not necessarily because it was a bad game.  Maybe you didn't understand it the first time, or you were more impatient/weren't as experienced a gamer as you are now?

I'd love to play Willow for the NES again.  I died early and often the first time and the game genie didn't help.  Now that I have several Zelda's and other RPGs under my belt, I'd like to give another whack at it.

More recently, I'd love to try Breath of the Wild, again. I was wandering around aimlessly the first time, getting murdered by those guardian things.  I'll take my time and plan better the next go-around.

Classic Video Games / Games in the Box
« on: December 13, 2019, 12:17:43 am »
How hard is it to find a game in it's original box?  Every time I see a picture of someone's collection, I never see the games in the box, just the cartridge.  I think I would rather have the full deal.  Box art is pretty.
