I bought the collector's edition of Deformers from GameStop yesterday, and found out the game is online only. Now the game is a fine game and all, and the steelbook, soundtrack, and little figures the collector's edition came with are all cool, but once I learned that the game has no offline mode it made me wonder what the point of a physical disc for a game like this is. Say the servers get shut down years from now, the disc will be useless. Is it just retail space that justify the discs being printed? You need internet to play this game, so the advantage of being able to install it quickly off the disc is gone. And while I own the disc, I don't necessarily own the game's ability to function down the road.

Thoughts?

The site videogamesplus.ca has somehow got a restock of some rarer DS games for a fairly reasonable price.
Infinite Space and Front Mission have become rather pricey games to find CIB so this may be a good way to get them.

The game looks unique. Underwater Metroidvania where you play as a submarine made by the Ratchet & Clank team.
Awesome for a physical release! Being a GameStop exclusive is great as a far as physical media goes. I'm curious to see how GameStop does as a publisher.

Fruit'Y is a small puzzle game developed by Retroguru. The German tech company Dragon Box Shop printed a physical copy of Fruit'Y for the Dreamcast. I bought a copy a few weeks ago and it arrived this week. It's fairly high quality. It came with a nice glossy printed cover art and a color disc in a DVD case. I uploaded scans to the listing I created http://vgcollect.com/item/92224
The game caught my attention because of how cheap it was. Usually I've stayed away from most homebrews because of their price, but this one was under $10 after shipping from Germany. The game could probably run on a phone, but it's got a retro arcade style of gameplay. So far in playing it on my Dreamcast I don't think it has a save function. The full game can be downloaded off of their site. http://www.retroguru.com/fruity/

It's a fun little puzzle game. For a new physical Dreamcast game for $10 I was sold. Figured I'd bring the game up for other physical collectors.  :)

Here is the store's page.

Should the Starter Packs for Skylanders, Disney Infinity, or Lego Dimensions be classified under the console of the game or under Interactive Figures?
I ask because the listing for Disney Infinity 3.0 (PS4 NA) http://vgcollect.com/item/88648 got changed to Interactive Figures.
There are a few game only listings for the Interactive Figures games such as this one for Skylanders: Swap Force http://vgcollect.com/item/57517
Should each starter pack have a separate listing for the individual game?

General / Games you have purchased because of the cover or title?
« on: July 07, 2015, 12:58:31 pm »
Have you ever bought a game because of the cover artwork or title intrigued you?
Recently I picked up

I've never heard of this game. The cover is just weird, and Martian Gothic Unification sounded too strange to pass up.
Any other blind purchases because of curiosity?

I love how physical releases are still happening despite the whole digital push.
It makes the physical collector in me (Along with probably a lot of you reading this) happy to see this, along with Mighty No. 9, Legend of Kay Anniversary, and the Bloodstained campaign all going physical.
Are there any other digital only games that you suspect/wish would go physical? I'd still love to see Okami HD and Resident Evil HD get a disc release outside of Asia.

Gamestop is doing a 3 for $10 deal on a whole bunch of 360 & PS3 games. It supposedly goes until February 15th. The games are listed below off a list I pulled from reddit. It's a rather odd assortment. Some good, some mediocre, mostly common stuff. I ended up getting Castlevania, Lost Planet 2, and Ratchet & Clank All 4 One yesterday.

Classic Video Games / The Lizard, a new NES game on Kickstarter.
« on: November 20, 2014, 01:58:55 am »
So I learned about this new Homebrew NES game being funded on Kickstarter today called The Lizard. It's already been funded with a week to go.
The game is a platformer that focuses heavily on exploration. You use different lizards with different abilities to get around. There is a demo available on the Kickstarter page. The developer is one guy who has worked on different game projects. He covered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon onto the NES. Kickstarter backers can get an exclusive white cartridge if they want. I'm super on the fence with this one. The game looks cool and the demo is fun. It feels like an actual NES game.

Here is an interview Retro did with the developer.

So Tales of Hearts R comes out in a few weeks and it's got me thinking of it's potential to be a rare game that could be difficult to find later on. Now I don't even own a Vita (yet) but I've already got a copy preordered down at silly old Gamestop. Here's what I'm thinking;
1. Tales is a very niche series in North America
2. Namco Bandai typically does lower print runs
3. It's on the Vita which is already home to a few niche games
4. It's a Gamestop exclusive, this might be the biggest factor. The last Gamestop exclusive game I can think of was Xenoblade and that shot up in value quickly after release.
Thoughts?

Classic Video Games / Dynasty Warriors 4 vs Xtreme Legends?
« on: July 15, 2014, 02:22:36 am »
I picked up Xtreme Legends at a thrift shop the other day. After searching on the internet trying to figure out the difference between the 2 and getting mixed results, I figured I'd ask here.  Is Xtreme Legends an expansion to Dynasty Warriors 4 or a spin-off/sequel? Is Xtreme Legends worth keeping if I don't have the PS2 version of Dynasty Warriors 4?
