News / Delete Account Feature
« on: July 16, 2016, 09:50:27 pm »
DO NOT TEST THIS FEATURE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ACCOUNT

Hey everyone we have a quick update to announce.  Jason has developed a new feature on the user settings page.  Users now have the option to delete their accounts so it will no longer be a manual process requiring a deletion request on the forum.  We hope every user wants to stay here of course  :), but the option is there for users who want it for whatever reason.

If you use this feature your account will be permanently deleted, so make sure you are 100% sure before you click delete.

News / Two New Administrators
« on: February 04, 2016, 04:44:39 pm »
As VGCollect continues to grow, so does the need for additional staff members.  Recently we have been experiencing a large increase in database activity, to address this we started by adding Mastafafik to the staff last month.  However to continue to ensure that user's needs are met in a timely matter we are happy to announce the addition of two more members, Desocietas and Tripredacus!  :D

If you have spent anytime at all on the forums Desocietas is a name you will immediately recognize.  She has been an active member both in the forums and the database since the earliest days of VGCollect in 2011.  Back when the forums looked like this!

Tripredacus may not be as familiar of a face on the forums to most people, but for those that browse the Database Discussion section of the forum he is very well known.  Tripredacus has consistently submitted high quality edits and helped us catch many duplicates over the years.

With these two fantastic additions to the staff we are now equipped to better handle your requests and continue to provide the high quality of service that you have come to expect from VGCollect.

Today I am happy to announce the addition of Mastafafik to the VGCollect staff!  :D

Mastafafik may not be a familiar face in the forums to many of our members, but he has been consistently active in database contributions for years now; he is one of the few members of VGCollect who owns the elusive 5000 edits badge  :o.  Mastafafik will help us keep up with the ever increasing database edits and item submissions as VGCollect continues to grow.  Mastafafik also has an expertise in European games, an area the rest of the staff is not very familiar with.

2016 is going to be another great year for VGCollect and we appreciate your continued support!  :)

I am happy to announce that we have added two new staff members to the VGCollect team, Karyann and badATchaos!  :D

Both Karyann and badATchaos will help manage the new submissions, duplicates, and edits, as well as answering user questions and moderating the forums.  Karyann will also provide expertise in regards to web development to help alleviate some of Matt's workload.   VGCollect is continuing to rapidly grow, with nearly 22,000 members currently registered, nearly 80,000 individual items listed in the database, and 1.4 million items cataloged in user collections.  Karyann and badATchaos will help ensure that edits are still approved in a timely fashion and the we maintain the high quality of service users have come to expect of us.

The future of VGCollect looks very bright and we hope to continue adding new features and maintaining the best video game forum community on the internet.  :)

General / I Found The One
« on: September 17, 2014, 12:57:40 am »
So after the tragic end to the relationship with my clone I thought I would never find true love again.

However, I finally got over my relationship and found true love!

*Disclaimer*: I'm really not that weird.  I just like self deprecating humor while parodying the highschool relationship posts I see on my Facebook feed.  There is one member on here that I am Facebook friends with that can back me up here.

Modern Video Games / The Greatest PS3 Games Nobody Played
« on: August 31, 2014, 03:03:49 am »
I was met with the surprise of a YLOD on my PS3 today!  I was sad at first, but then I realized there were so many games that I was missing out on as I was too busy playing the disc based games on the system.  Here is a list of my personal favorites:

Calculus Homework Paperweight

In this exciting game you have to use the PS3 to hold down your Calculus homework that just will not stay still.  The PS3 stops the movement of the paper allowing you to enjoy the limitless fun of Calculus homework without worrying about your papers flying away.  This is an integral piece of every PS3 collection!

Hat Holder

If you wear hats you know they take up a lot of space in the house.  If you just have no idea where to put all of those bothersome hats the PS3 can help with the game Hat Holder!  In this game you have to carefully place your hats on top of the PS3 in a way where you can fit multiple hats without them falling off.  For expert gamers I recommend playing Hat Holder and Calculus Homework Paperweight at the same time.

Weird Al CD Stacker

Put down that chainsaw and listen to me! In this high intensity game the player must stack as many Weird Al CDs as they can on top of the PS3 console.  This game may look easy at the start, but after you start adding label variants the game gets challenging fast.  Sweat will be pouring down your face as you concentrate on stacking the original Scotti Bros releases on top of their Volcano/Way Moby re-releases.  My highscore is 14 studio Al-bums and 5 compilation Al-bums (Non label variant mode).

Odyssey2 Box Display Table

What if I told you there was a way to display your Odyssey2 game boxes without dealing with bothersome things like flat surfaces and shelves?  Look no further than Odyssey2 Box Display Table for the PS3!   In this challenging game the player must find a way to keep Odyssey2 game boxes standing on the PS3's curved surface.  For an added challenge play Weird Al CD Stacker and use the Odyssey2 boxes as the base.

Door Stop

We all have that pesky door that just will not stay open.  Stop that door from shutting with the great PS3 exclusive Door Stop.  In this game the player must find the best place to put their PS3 to stop the door from closing.  I find the best place to put the PS3 is on the floor next to the door, but players may develop their own strategies to complete the game.  Don't be surprised when your heart stops playing Door Stop!

Site Feedback / Release Date
« on: November 09, 2013, 07:23:08 pm »
I was inputting some information for Atari 2600 Carts today and noticed that the year for release date only goes back to 1979.  A few of my games were released before that so I was wondering if it would be possible to extend that back farther or just allow for manual input of the year.

With spring training games going right now I was wondering if anyone here watches baseball.  My favorite team is the Mariners, and the only team I really dislike is the Yankees(Sorry psydswipe  :) ).

General / Video Games/Series you like, but almost no one else does
« on: September 26, 2012, 11:00:09 pm »
This topic idea popped in my head when I saw Turf picked up Super Hydlide for Sega Genesis.  For some reason I enjoy Hydlide on the NES.  I bought it expecting a crappy game and ended up playing it all day to completion .  I even replayed it over the summer just for fun.  I also bought the Japanese sequel, but have not had time to really play it yet.

How about you guys?
