Off Topic / VGcollect nostalgia
« on: April 23, 2022, 07:55:44 pm »
A few days back I decided to just take a rare look at my profile and I realized that not only did I pass my 10 year anniversary on the site, it was already closer to 11 than 10. Really got me thinking back to VGcollect's early days and the general difference in life, and how I've had this account for 1/3rd of it.

I started looking up some of the old regulars from that time, and sadly (but not unexpectedly because of the amount of time) the majority haven't been active in many years. It really was an interesting time when I was wishing for a good collection tracker that wasn't sub-par with options that an acquaintance from another, lesser tracker site named Nightowljrm (also long inactive) brought VGcollect to my attention. That first year or two of frantically scanning every item I had to do my part of filling in the database while Matt & Scott were super active in building the site's features was a time. I was never as active as then, and have been very minimally posting in the forums over the years... so a big shout out to the regulars, especially the 2011-2012 OGs who are still about!

It's sad that as time went on the over-saturation of the hobby basically priced me out of it and drove me to less site activity. Heck, the last time I added anything that wasn't a Switch game or Amiibo was in 2016... a time I already considered too expensive. I filled the remaining gaps in my GBA/DS/Gamecube Pokemon collection and between then and now all I bought has at least doubled in price and in one case increased about 8x... which just shows the problem all too well. The ridiculous increase in my collection's value is theoretically nice, but I would much prefer to still be able to expand it than sit on it. Sometimes it's utter stagnation makes me consider selling, but there are too many memories in the experience of acquiring it. I sometimes wonder if this is also why other OGs have been gone for years, but a decade is also a long time and taste changes.

Anyway, old man reminiscing aside, it's been interesting to watch the site and it's prominent forum users change over time. I didn't even notice the new feature where your collection shows the cartridge pic if you have your item marked as cart only and that is pushing my autism to wanting to go through and mark all my games correctly (so many years ago if I only had the cart I checked nothing, and that still shows the box image) as well as fill in the database gaps that now cause games that didn't used to to show up as the dreaded "no image" box. I appreciate the work the devs are still doing - big thanks to Jason in particular, as well as those who chisel away at perfecting the database item accuracy.

That's probably enough boomer rambling on the topic for now. I'd love to hear other OG perspectives and that of newer members. I'll stick around in the background as long as VGcollect exists even if I never again obtain another NES or SNES game and maybe in another 10 years I'll complain about Wii shovelware going for thousands in another nostalgia post. Until then, I'll see you guys around now and then!

General / What where the best deals you foolishly passed on?
« on: February 02, 2022, 06:23:38 pm »
Though I have been pretty inactive in collection for several years the recent shoot up in prices has led me to looking at modern prices of some things to see where they are at. It was when I was looking at PS2 game prices when I saw that Haunting Grounds is now several hundred dollars. This made me think back to the past when I saw it for my only ever time in the wild at a little antique mall flea market for less than $10 and for some reason didn't buy it despite being interested. I really have no idea why I didn't as I was really into building my PS2 collection at the time. On the topic of pricey PS2 games I also saw Rule of Rose several times and despite it being one of the most expensive PS2 games now I didn't know what it was so there was no realistic chance I would have bought it (unless it was like $1) unlike Haunting Grounds which I was actually interested in.

In the past when Byron and I used to go out every Friday for years this is what we dubbed paying a "stupid tax", missing out on something and having to pay more when you actually did buy it. Even in the day this happened a lot to me... some examples include all the Mega Man X games (specifically X2 and X3) for $20-30, a copy of E.V.O. for $25 and a CIB Castlevania: Bloodlines for $15 all being things I ended up buying for many times more than the chances I had to get them for cheap.

Either through hindsight price increase or straight in the moment missing out, what are some chances you guys had to pick something up for a bargain and for whatever reason you passed on the deal?

General / Do you include shipping price when logging cost?
« on: March 01, 2019, 03:34:42 pm »
If you keep track of what you payed with the cost option on VGCollect, do you include shipping prices? While I was looking up the receipt for a shipped item and adding it, which is an annoying step as the email often only shows the upfront game cost, it made me think about this. I have always added the shipping price as it was involved in the purchase of the game, but I could see a case for not doing this. It could give an inaccurate measure of what you payed purely for the game or item itself, inflating the perceived value. On the other hand, I've payed hundreds and maybe even more than a thousand dollars over my tenure and to ignore that cost seems a bit dishonest.

What do you think? What's your philosophy on shipping and how it relates to the price of games?

Video Game Database Discussion / Torchlight II Indiebox title rejection
« on: December 07, 2017, 11:09:32 am »
I don't know who is charge of rejecting me, but perhaps you should look how all the other IndieBox games are titled? Every other one is stylized in the way I am submitting, and it's infuriating to have this one not fall in line. The person who added it just did it on the fly without specifics, and I made sure to take a look and make sure it is the correct one. If you don't like the style then go ahead and change every single other Indiebox entry to one you like, but do not make them freaking mismatched.

Perhaps the review process should have the name of the reviewer or a place to write a personalized message? I'm not just some random new person here, I've been doing this a long time and am doing the correct thing by trying to correct the entry instead of making a new one.

Off Topic / VGC News: MarvelVsCapcom2 Interview
« on: April 24, 2017, 07:15:45 pm »
Welcome to the first broadcast of VGC News! I am your host, Hexen, and today we have a very special guest. You've heard talk of his greatness, his uniqueness, his commitment to questions. Today we have on the show MarvelVsCapcom2, one of VGCollect's most prominent members! I sat down with the legend himself to discuss life, politics, philosophy and most importantly the development of the much anticipated Giant Black Sea Slug: The Game.

Our lawyers advised me to state it is always noon somewhere.

H: Hi, welcome to the show! How are you today?

MvC2:  I am very good. I am so happy to be on the show. Thank you Hexen and VG collect world for having me today.  :D.

H: So let's just jump right into it, the big talk around VGCollect right now is your upcoming game Giant Black Sea Slug: The Game. Though it's initial goal was not met, you still managed to raise millions of dollars from outside funding and the hype around it's creation is real. How did you get the idea to develop Giant Black Sea Slug: The Game?

MvC2: The idea for Giant Black Sea Slug the video game was very meta and spiritual and was brought about by the slug gods themselves.  It all came to me when I was watching an episode of Brave Wilderness on YouTube where the beloved host Coyote Peterson told us to be brave and be wild yet again for all of us Coyote Pack watching on :D. He is a beacon of hope for all of us inspiring adventurers. He has caught many Banana Slug in his day and is what one may call a slug connoisseur. A professor in Slugology. A graduate at Slug Academy,  A slug legend.  He is the one we look to for answers regarding ecology of slugs. I seeked to be his apprentice in the way of the sea slugs.  But none had quite the legacy and charm of the Giant Black Sea Slug. It was as if the Slug caught us.  Manipulating our emotions.  I went to go on another adventure with the Coyote Pack and was taken back by his most intellectually enthralling episode yet :).  An episode full of such wonder and untold complexities.  I felt as though i was with him traversing the California tide pools as he found a giant black sea slug.

As he held the Slug up in it's slimy glistening glory to the onlooking audience i couldn't help but see the Slugs passion and it's face spoke a million words. It spoke of hardships and tribulations. A loss of life, a longing for love. A untold story it wanted the world to know. It spoke to me.  Through it's eyes i could see a window to it's soul and a flash of the life it had led and i knew i had to make it's story felt by everyone.  On the outside he was a plain slug, but on the inside he was so much more.  He was a brave hero who had seen his share of pelicans and crabs. A battle hardened vivacious large slug that had been through an entire journey and the camera focusing on his slick black exterior was the final chapter in what had been a life full of hardships and determination for simon slug. :D.   A legend of all slugs everywhere and the bravest and most incredible video game protagonist ever to exist.    I couldn't help but sense the untold story of the Slug's life and how it got to be in the position it was in.  I seeked to make GBSS:TG to be the canvas in which Simon slugs true story will finally be painted once and for all for everyone to experience.  His voice will be heard by the masses :)     As i continued watching Coyote through is adventures in the tide pools i also seen him come in contact with the sheer nefarious evil of the Blue Crabs and King Krabs  :).    They were never nice to Coyote and through them i could see villainy and pernicious thoughts.  They looked as if they had encountered sea slugs before and i blame them for the death of Simon's dad Sidiku who Simon misses dearly. The game starts off at Sidiku Slug's wake as a bead of tear drips from Simon the Slug's eye.  Throwing the player into the emotional rollercoast from the very beggining :).

MarvelVsCapcom2 shared an image of a personal hero.

H: Wow, what an outstandingly ambitious concept! What games influenced the style of GBSS:TG?

MvC2: GBSSTG takes alot of it's influence from Kingdom Hearts and Zelda but is more perfected in it's formula.  It will be an Action RPG where you gain XP and Magic and can build a team of up to 3 allies including Orca Whales, Manatees, Other Slugs, and even Humans like Coyote Peterson :). Throughout the game you will be spoken to by Simon's dad siduku in spirit form much like Navi as he guides you to rescure your family of slugs from Skull island where the crooked sage Karl King Krab lives.. :)   As you take down enemies throughout different levels you grow in strength and your party becomes more powerful.  Simon learns different magical spells such as healing slime that restores the entire parties HP and thunder slime that can create giant electrical globs of slime to kill many oceanic creatures and many other powers through his adventure.  Their are puzzles, caves and sand dunes for Simon to explore to find hidden relics that shine light on the mysteries of the genetic DNA of all Slugs.  The answers to the existence of the Slugs and their place on earth destined to them by Golden Slug God who is a DLC for the collector's edition buyers.   :D.

H: There is no doubt that after GBSS:TG is released, both it and you are going to be a household name in the video game market. Do you have any other games in the cards after you've finished with it? Will Bowser: Dad Adventures finally come to fruition?

MvC2: After GBSS:TG is developed their are many ideas in the works for IOS/Android apps for GBSSTG side content including Pocket Slug where you can bring Simon with you on the Go and raise him to be strong and prosperous by feeding him and exercising :).  It also gives you a daily fortune from Sidiku Slug in spirtual form. As well as many Slug novelties like Slug slime in a jar and Simon Slug Amiibo.   And also the next major project Bowser's Dad Adventures. :D. The dark and engaging back story of the evil Koopa empire lord himself.

A canvas for a darker mushroom kingdom and the M rated vile Bowser.  Digging deep into the dark Alcoholic abusive upbringing of Bowser that caused him to seek a life of infamy and pain and the demons that still reside in his conscience ripping at his soul until his dying says.  Why his mom and dad left him as a baby and why he longs so much for human love. Who raised him. How he was swirlied by the other Koopas and Abused in School. How he was used as an ash tray by his Uncle.  The dark gripping tale of a evil mastermind who was truly misunderstood. :).   The second story of Bowser is always the most disheartening. :(.  This nintendo cinematic thriller could change our whole outlook on Bowser and uncover the dark truth that has been hidden for 30 years.   Why he kidnaps peach and the ultimate hole in bowser's heart that he tries to substitute through his villainy. The inner workings of being a single father and the untold side of his story of dealing with Mario who in himself is a different kind of evil to his kind and bowser's loved ones and a evil mastermind.  Uncover bowser's depressing dark child hood of getting beer cans thrown at him by his dad and such and how he juggles it all through his own mental insecurities while trying to raise his son without a mom to help. And also the story of the drug abuse Bowser Jr's mom was inflicted by and how it resulted in her untimely death leaving bowser with nothing but grief and sorrow. and why he longs to find a mother figure for his son in a world full of hatred towards him.  Will bowser ever be loved?  :(.

H: Let's talk about the man behind the art. Before development began on GBSS:TG, you where the world champ of both the boxing and ear-biting world, what was that like?

MvC2: It was a really good life of lavishness and happiness :).  I collected pigeons of varying pedigrees and was relatively happy in life until a guy in a tank top with green shorts came and made a mockery of me in front of all my friends :(.  Then he went on to be in smash wii u and i didn't even get invited.  No fair  >:(.   Soda Popinski never let me live that down. :(

H: Although this is your biggest project to date in the mainstream, you've been making local news with your literary talent for years now. You clearley have a background in literature, where did you study to master the writing skills for which the name of MarvelVsCapcom2 has become so synonymous?

(At this point in the interview MarvelVsCapcom2 looked away into the distance, behind me... almost looking past me. He seemed to be fondly reminiscing about his youth, his days in school, where he had become who he was now. He pulled out a gym bag from under his chair and slowly unzipped it. He reached in and pulled out what he wanted to show me, a shaking smile with a tear of nostalgia in his eye.)

It was a copy of Mario Teaches Typing. I knew it well, I was a legacy there.

H: Following up on your writings, do you keep track of how people answer your surveys? For what neferious purposes do you use the statistics for if you do?

MvC2: I love to make the surveys to get to know all the users on a more personal level and i browse through them from time to time to see the differences amongst us. The surveys are made to get to know every user for their preferences and personalities. I scroll through to see everyone's opinions so that i can learn more of the complexities of people and of the diversity of VG collect.  It adds a friendship element :)

H: A very touching story indeed, although I still sometimes believe you may be some kind of future survey alien savior of mankind. While we are speaking of VGCollect what events led you to find, join and become the undisputed God-emporer of VGcollect.com?

MvC2: I stumbled onto the beautiful utopia of VG collect.com when i was looking for a friendly community of gamers to chat with and to categorize games, then I found VG collect, exactly the place i was looking for for a very long time :).  I was so overrun with excitement of the UI and database that on my first day on the page i made a duplicate listing of Simpsons skateboarding. :(.   It was like tracking mud on the sacred carpet with such a awful first impression. I felt like a dragon ruining the harmony of the lives of the village folk who were enjoying sacred slumber.  Spitting my fire.  Making things bad.  I was ashamed i could have made such a mistake on the new site i found and loved and i felt as though i let everyone down. Head hung in shame i clicked my messages. And there was the golden message icon.  I was informed by a friendly user who cheered me up. He sent me on the right path to becoming a better person. He was the Obi Wan Kenobe of VG collect. Possibly even god.  He spoke wisdom. He was very friendly And from there i wanted to get to know all of the amazing people here so i held surveys and studies to get to know everyone better as well as things i was thinking at the time during the time of Prince's death which was caused by Illuminati Elite.  I met so many amazing people and learned alot of valuable life lessons here at VG collect.  :D.

H: A truly moving tale. Speaking of moving tales, Micheal Bay's Transformers movies have changed the landscape of culture forever. If you could transform into any home video system, which would it be and why?

MvC2: If i could be any home console i would be a clear atomic purple Wii U signed by James Rolfe donated to Hasbro Children's hospital to entertain sick people in need :).  To cheer them up when they are down.

Today I have REALLY exciting news! I was out and about on my usual exploration looking for NES & V-Smile games when I decided to check a place I usually don't. There is this small little pawn shop that I went into once and found nothing but the usual fare (power tools, katanas, VCRs and printing presses, you know) but today I decided to give them another look. I was just looking through the glass cases when I saw it... a grey Nintendo World Championship cartridge! My heart was racing as I asked the old lady at the counter how much it was. She told me it was 'one of those Nintendos' and that she would give it to me for $20. I could hardly keep my composure but I asked if $15 was alright in an attempt to conceal the value of the item. She said it was fine and I have NEVER raced out of a store so fast. Of course, there was a chance that this was a fake cartridge and I had to open it up to inspect it. I have this documented for you.

I had to carefully open up the cartridge first, of course. As I did I was sweating bullets, I had to be as careful as possible to not damage it in any way, even the slightest bit of dust touching the board would be a huge failure on my part.

OH MY GOD THE BOARD IS LEGIT! HOLY SHIT!

I was sitting there, trembling, puking my guts out, so nervous to ask my very first NWC cartridge to the senior prom before I even noticed something else about it. After the shock wore out and my erection slowly went away I had over looked something about the cartridge... oh my god... it coulden't be...
The only known copy of Half-Life 3 was inside the cartridge as well!

What an exciting day! What an exciting April 1st! I've never had such an exciting April 1st! On this April, fools would be the only ones not excited! Freaking ugly, stupid, dumb and hairy fools! At any rate, I carefully put the board back into the cartridge, making sure to situate it just right for it's new eternity sealed in a glass case.

Hi, I'm Hexen, otherwise known by my real name Jonathan Gerald Smith-Douglas, by profession I am a stage magician. The more keen eyed among you may have figured this out, but for the majority who haven't I would like to put your fears to rest - this was NOT a real NWC cartridge and what you saw was only a well crafted illusion for April Fool's day! In actuality, this was but a worthless copy of Little Samson I worked my magic on to play a fun trick. If you would like to know how I did it in intricate detail, please visit my website and order my DVD!

General / Bittersweet Collection Milestones
« on: March 19, 2017, 12:15:38 pm »
Recently I have been thinking a lot about the state of my collection and where it could go from it's current point. When I started collecting seriously it was the mid 2000's. I was still in high school and I didn't own much more than the games I bought as they came out, or whatever was cheap enough from GameStop. I came into some money, and the NES had always fascinated me, and it was also just the right time before there was the unforeseen bubble. I started going out every week and looking for games, and that leads to now.

When I started I didn't know a whole lot about the libraries of each system, which was a big part of making things fresh and exciting. There where dozens of games I knew I wanted, and as I experienced more from the hunt it grew to hundreds. My dilemma now is that I know just about every game in the library of all the most prominent systems, and through my decade long effort... I own pretty much every one I want specifically. Now, it's always exciting to find games in garage sale/thrift store environments where you can get colossal deals, and I don't think I'll ever tire of that because the surprise becomes less what the games are but which games there are, and I'm always looking for the obscenely rare chance of a new NES game to complete the library, but it's not quite the same now knowing what I am going to find are more collectables and less playable games I want to own a physical version of.

With the exception of the NES and my completionist efforts, I feel like my other major libraries are curated to an extreme level, with the exception of random games I got on the cheap. When I am looking at SNES games now I know that there is almost zero chance it'll be a game I am excited to play because I own (nearly) all the classics and gems. The same can be said for the Genesis, PS1, PS2, N64, and other systems with many high quality titles. I don't really want to buy most of the games left for these systems as they are mostly shovel-ware, and I probably never would unless I found them for pennies on the dollar or became obscenely rich and just completed collections CIB for the aesthetics of it (Is this what TheFlea does...? Hehehe). There are no more Marios, Castlevanias, Final Fantasies, or Sonics to find. The general surprise of what lurks in massive libraries is no longer a secret to me, and it's left me a bit jaded.

Earlier and more exotic systems aren't really jam-packed with classics, and I collect more for the history and uniqueness, but that hardly matters with how rarely I come across them. The systems I really would like to shore up on that actually have quality titles, the TurboGrafx family chief among them, are just not widely available. In a decade the closest I have ever come to a TG16 related item in the wild where at dedicated game stores. It's gotten to the point where in the past couple years I have turned to Amiibos & Skylanders, and more recently strategy guides, instead just because of how little curated items I have left to find.

Have any of you reached the point where you feel like you have most everything you want? Is your mentality about the hobby significantly different than mine? I'd like to hear about it.

General / The future of MarvelVsCapcom2: Best vs. Best
« on: July 09, 2016, 03:18:25 pm »
I come from a war torn future ravaged by indecision over what things are best. Luckily, in your time, there was a small window wherein a visitor from the stars in disguise of Earth's greatest boxer probed humanity to learn what we liked best. The beginnings of his work can be seen here or here or here or here or EVEN... here. His actions are imperative for the continuation of the human race. Unfortunately, his miracle surveys where spread to thin over the course of 200 human years, their effects dissipated over the thread of time. Though the last bastion of hope, the self-aware V-G-c011ect supercomputer database, I was able to compile these questions of peace and travel to the here and now. With MvC2's final work we can save humanity! I have with me the near completed versus chart of our benevolent visitor before he had to return to his home planet. You must decide what is best...! Don't let his work be in vain...! Check the corresponding letters and numbers for a short MvC2-esque description of what is best!

Numbers Bracket

1. Dumpster - Holds garbage people don't want. Is home for hobos. Diving in the shallow end is not advised.

2.Cobbler - Fixes shoes. Is not a gnome, despite all scientific evidence. Uses a little hammer.

3. Spork - Is 2 tools in one. Is more convenient than 1 tool, but less tacky than many. Humanity's greatest invention.

4. Letter X - Marks the spot of treasure. Three let you know what is pornographic or alcoholic. Two let you know who is most interesting, and alcoholic.

5. Religion - Claims to save people, but more often kills them. No matter the result, 90% are wrong. Practitioners often wear hats.

6. Mike Tyson - World's greatest champion. Great disguise for star travelers. Bites ears, so humans will not approach on fear of ear biting.

7. C.H.U.D. - Lives in sewers, and are mean. Starred in popular Earth movies. Have dope glowing eyes.

8. ZX Spectrum - Human computing machine in the UK. Has a rainbow to support gay rights. Unparalleled computing power until Earth year 2087.

9. Mustache
- Grows on lips. Infrequent on females despite aesthetic appeal. Ensures lips will not be lonely.

10. Gak - Green goop often digested by children. Gets in rugs, causing large humans to yell at small humans. Sometimes made in science class.

11. Scratching - Near-automatic response to stimuli. Causes itch-scratch-itch cycle, devolving into pure hedonism. Humans can't reach where they need it the most.

12. Sombrero Galaxy - Home galaxy of MvC2 people. Is not the closest, but is not the furthest away. Is shaped like a hat.

13. Turtle - Reptile who carries his home, much like a human RV. Are known to subsist purely on Pizza. Fear plumbers.

14. Stump - Byproduct of books and take out menus. Equivalent of chopping of human feet and leaving them there. Cannot be trumped.

15. Tuesday - The second work day, still much work to look forwards to. Payment of hamburgers is reserved for this day. No human ever thanks a deity for it.

16. Surf Nazis Must Die - Movie about Nazis who enjoy water sports. First film featuring famous Earth actress Leroy's Mama. Earth's greatest form of artistic expression.

Letters Bracket

A. Vegemite - A form of poison for medium to large sized lifeforms. It was created by Hitler and Satan during The Civil World War 3. It's use has been deemed a war crime.

B. Grandma - Kindly mother of a human's parents. Bakes cookies and legitimately believes Marmaduke is funny. Will die very, very soon.

C. Consumerism - The trade of paper and metal for different paper and metal. Works best for humans because they are greedy. Sales are limited time offers, so I urgently must buy everything lest the opportunity cost elapse in favor of resource costs.

D. Ground - Humble and hardworking, never thanked. Prevents all terrestrial creatures from falling in lava. Oddly, will sometimes be made of lava when children are about.

E. Turnip - Rocket fuel of the proletariat. Has no taste to not distract from the worker's lot in life. Earth's most beautiful women are often stated to have the characteristics of one.

F. 3 1/2 Floppy Disk
- Futuristic device which contains data. 64kb is enough to hold all human data which is correct. Not as floppy as it's larger cousins.

G. E Flat - Sound that can be picked up by human ears. Despite being called flat, does not contain any dimensions whatsoever. Often used in more complex tunes with other notes, but is considered to stand on it's own by most.

H. Dent - Displacement of materiel inwards, causing a crater where one is not expected to be. Is often seen as a detriment instead of uniqueness. Humans like all things to be uniform.

I. Asthma - Genetic evolution of humans to cut reliance on opiate known as oxygen. Treated as an illness by humans who fear the unknown. Most humans with this mutation play a small flute known as an inhaler.

J. Confusion - Mental state in which Earth creatures are uncertain. Documented cases on Earth television show question marks erupting from heads, though never observed personally. Most common response to MarvelVsCapcom2 questionnaires.

K. Regicide - The evisceration of an Earth monarch. Sometimes Kings are jerks and asking nicely doesn't work. Earth author Stephen King lives in constant fear of this.

L. Random Chance - The true rule of which all the universe follows. A giant rock could fall out of the sky and crush you tomorrow. Life was created by random chance, which is why we worship it in the Sombrero Galaxy.

M. Steve Buscemi - Earth actor of screen and stage. Considered the greatest by all but a split faction of Earthlings who believe that honor falls on Billy Baldwin. Was fed into a wood chipper in Fargo.

N. Blue - One of the limited number of colors found on Earth. Is the color of their skies, seas, blue crayons and speedy hedgehogs. Is often thought to be true, but is in actuality false.

O. Dunsparce - Underestimated, but scientifically proven best Pokemon. Has little wings that don't work and a drill tail. Was robbed by Pikachu of his rightful series mascot status.

P. Object Permanence - Knowledge that objects do not disappear from reality when leaving one's field of vision. Highly overrated among human abilities. A subject often majored in at Earth colleges known as "Gender Studies" there, and involving potential earnings disappearing.

It is up to YOU as denizens of your time period to save the Earth by filling out this bracket...! Anything less than complete completion of each step with reasoning why will lead us to an era of darkness beyond your comprehension! ...but even in the future, us doomed few have responsibilities, so you could just say which one is best... I'm not gonna judge. I mean, sure, you COULD change the timeline where my children had to eat their mother because going outside to scavenge for tree bark is too risky, but whatever. It's not YOUR problem when you can just play on your ZX Spectrums all day and occasionally mow the lawn. Whatever.

But you all must member one thing:

Praise MarvelVsCapcom2 for making this wonderful struggle for life possible! May he forever wear the dopest of robes!

Why did I do this? I don't know. I'm bored and MarvelVsCapcom2 just inspired me with his wackiness.

Modern Video Games / Steam/Indie games you wish had a physical release?
« on: November 02, 2015, 11:23:14 pm »
I've had a lot of trouble with the way games are going these days. With the advent of Steam, a lot more really interesting games have been coming out since individuals can really get their visions published without corporate meddling. However, by being Steam games, they are almost always without a physical release. I don't know if it's just me, but buying games without some physical incarnation feels awful to me. Recently I saw a video of Undertale and despite how gross it felt, I had to buy it to support it's creator (it's the greatest basically one-man game since Cave Story). Playing it just makes me wish I had a physical copy of it... along with a physical Cave Story (without gross edited music and graphics like the existing ones), Castle Crashers and so fourth. I'll probably never get a lot of the games I want in a physical box, but hey, at least Shovel Knight gets one soon...!

What games would you guys like to see physically released?

Marketplace / .Hack//G.U Vol. 1// Rebirth Sealed for Sale/Trade
« on: July 13, 2013, 12:55:10 pm »
Today I came across a sealed copy of .Hack//G.U Vol. 1// Rebirth for the PS2. I'm not really into sealed games so much unless I also have an unsealed copy, so I decided it'd be better to trade/sell. I would prefer a trade, but it is somewhat unlikely anything within it's trading price range is owned by anyone willing to trade it, so I am also open to cash offers. Just contact me with stuff you might want to trade or an offer if you're interested. Thanks!

Marketplace / 75 NES games for sale
« on: July 16, 2012, 08:45:19 pm »
I have a bundle of NES game extras to sell or trade. There is nothing outstanding outside of a few NES classics. All the games are in good working condition and cosmetic shape with the exception of Overlord which pretty much has it's entire top right side ripped off and Star Trek: 25th Anniversry where the tabs that hold the board in place have snapped so the game is quite hard to insert, though the boards in both games do work. I'd be willing to sell as a lot or individually, though I'd prefer to trade it for a comparable random-ish set of SNES, Genesis of PS1 games (Although I know it's quite uncommon to have such a thing lying around unless you are a specialized collector.) I'd also accept trades off my wishlist, though most of those games are worth more then several of these NES games individually.

The list of games is as follows:

10-Yard Fight
Adventure Island
Al Unser Jr Turbo Racing

General / Download Only & Collection Tracking
« on: June 13, 2012, 03:10:00 pm »
I am curious if anyone else thinks the same way I do on this one.

I have a few games that I own no physical representation of (Diablo III, Castle Crashers, ect.) and I do not track them as part of my collection. Because they are only information, they feel like non-entities. When I think about tracking them it makes me think that you might as well track any ROMs you may happen to have as well. The ROMS, oddly enough, feel more permanent then then downloaded games.  If your computer gets wiped, you can easily re-download ROMs no problem while some downloaded games may be lost forever if say your memory gets wiped. Most will have some kind of account to keep track of what you've bought luckily, but things like forgetting account info could still make things difficult. There is also the question of what will happen when the next gen comes out... will your downloads be transferred and supported? Also, while highly unlikley, I never trust that downloaded games might not just be wiped by the company you bought them from for some stupid reason, a glitch perhaps, with no way to reclaim them. I still track things like MMO disks because even when the game is gone with no official way to play, you will still have some kind of representation of it's time around with the box and disks.

So basically, do you feel download only games are on the same level as physical copies?

Classic Video Games / PS1 game's relative rarity
« on: May 24, 2012, 05:01:25 am »
Something has bugged me for a long time and that is how infrequently I find PS1 games at Garage Sales/Thrift Stores/Flea Markets/Etc. Every Friday, for I don't even remember how many years now, a friend and I go out to stores/garage sales looking for games. In this time, I have found almost everything. You can pretty much name a system and I've found something for it. However, despite finding much more uncommon things, I almost never see PS1 games which I would figure wouldn't be too rare a site. I see tons of PS1 systems, however, which just bugs me even more.

I am curious how often you guys find them and what you think the cause of this odd shortage is.
