Hardware and Tech / Re: What is this Dreamcast memory card?

The item title is invalid. The word "unbranded" cannot be present. An appropriate name would be

memory card DC01-A

until more information can be found.

Thank you for letting me know that. Part of the reason I posted this is that I figured that I would be informed if part of the submission was erroneous. I did look through the style guides and I didn't notice anything regarding these generic products, but I may have missed them. Is there any section that I should study to avoid further invalid entries? I do have some other unbranded/clone products that I was planning to add, and I would like to make sure that I submit them in compliance with the standards of the database.

Hi grandta13,

Thank you for the feedback! I've fixed this. Let me know if this works better now.

Kind regards,

Jason

Thank you for fixing it. Pressing Enter from either text field or after selecting a CheckBox will now add the item to the user's collection.

Hardware and Tech / What is this Dreamcast memory card?
« on: February 06, 2021, 10:02:08 pm »
I have a completely unbranded Dreamcast memory card. I searched through the existing entries and couldn't find anything that seemed to match, so I created an entry that can be seen below.

There are no markings on the outside of the case. Onthe PCB, the text DC-01A and VER A is visible. Additionally, the number 289 is printed next to a symbol that resembles the letter S, though this may be a serial number.

Video Game Database Discussion / Sega Game Gear Cartridge Cases
« on: February 04, 2021, 02:39:10 pm »
There are at least two designs for the Sega Game Gear cartridge cases, one that is 'Made is USA', which has an item number of 253-6386. The other is made in Taiwan and doesn't seem to have a visible item number. Each has a slightly different logo and design.

The is already an entry for one of them, but the photo is not very clear and I can't tell which it is.

How should I handle this to prevent duplicates or item conversions?

I've noticed that several entries have artifacts from Unicode encoding issues (e.g. â„¢ instead of ) which affects certain symbols and all non-Latin language entries. I figure that there may have been some kind of transition at some point, as newer entries don't seem to have the issue.

Honestly, the main reason I'm asking about this is just simple curiosity, but I also would like to know if I should take any special care when using Unicode characters, or if the issue has been entirely corrected.

I've also noticed that non-ASCII characters just show up as question marks (?) on the Notifications page, though that doesn't really affect anything important (as far as I am aware).

The entry for the Sega Genesis 3-button black controller has the wrong image for the controller. The box is correct, but the item image shows the European model. It even says 'Mega Drive Control Pad' at the top.

There is already an entry for the European model as well:

PSOne DualShock Analog Controller (White) - https://vgcollect.com/item/69360
Sony PSOne DualShock Controller (Light Grey) - https://vgcollect.com/item/45296

I can't seem to find any information about a 'white' SCPH-110 being released. I suspect that the discrepancy in colour is due to lighting and/or plastic aging. I did find a Reddit post that aimed to document all the PS1/2 controllers, and the SCPH-110 only has one opaque colour listed.

Rejected due to item conversion. Your item has two things that the existing entry does not:
1. Starburst label with "Now cleans Super Nintendo"
2. Patent text on back in black ink

Make a new entry and use (Now Cleans Super Nintendo) descriptor.

That's fair; somehow I didn't notice that the original didn't have the starburst sticker. Though I would still propose updating the item number. The item number can be seen to be the same from the existing photos.

I submitted a series of edits to "High Frequency Video Game System Cleaning Kit", some of which were rejected.

Old Value:  SKN 358967
New Value: HF. 014
Rejection Reason: Action Not Allowed.
Edit Reason: Item number on spine is different, as seen here:

Edit Reason: Old image did not include all contents. Image on back cover also confirms this. New photo included all contents photographed on a white background.

EDIT: I also tried to remove the Publisher, as according to current guidelines that field should be blank for hardware and accessories. However, either the change did not submit, or the change request has not been reviewed yet.

HSV Adventure Racing for the N64 is currently categorised as Nintendo 64 [EU], while it should be Nintendo 64 [AU], as it was an Australia-only release.

EDIT: For some reason I didn't think to submit the edit to the item directly, as I just assumed a platform change would require admin intervention. I've submitted the change request normally now.

When a user is inputting text into the Notes or cost TextBox and presses Enter, the modal will close without adding the game to the user's collection. There are no additional dialogs or warnings when this happens, which can make it easy for a user to mistakenly believe that they have added an item to their collection unless they know to double-check.

Below is what I've tested:
Platform: Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.1902)
Browsers:
  • Mozilla Firefox 85.0 (64-bit)
  • Google Chrome 88.0.4324.104 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • Internet Explorer 11.1845.17134.0
  • Microsoft Edge 88.0.705.56 (Official build) (64-bit)

The item number for the Nintendo Selects edition of Super Mario Galaxy is listed as  RVL-RMG1-USZ. Based on its formatting, it would be the disc ID if it is correct. None of the serial numbers on my copy quite match it, so I would like to verify if my copy is original or piecemeal, and if it is original, whether it is a separate release to the existing entry, or if the existing entry is incorrect. I should also note that my disc artwork does not have a reflective background, which from what I could find is typical for a NS release.

Nintendo ID on rear of box: RVL P RMG1 USZ
Artwork ID? on rear of box: 75194A
Disc ID: RVL-RMGE-USA-B0
Booklet ID: 64299C

There is some ambiguity in the Style Guide regarding this as front box text is not explicitly mentioned in the bulleted list at the top of the section:
Box Text
Valid areas for box text:
- box back
- image captions
- bullet lists
- label text

However, further down the post shows an example of an entry that includes front text:
front box text
Transformers: Devastation (reviews) on PS4 has a release where there is a red block on the front with review text. This entry has the text from the front put into box text.

I would just like to clarify if front text should be included on entries going forward.

I attempted to edit the box text for Fallout: New Vegas for PS3, and my edit was rejected. There is no box text present now, but what I believe happened was that there was already text present, which I edited to add additional text from the back of the box, however there was a trade symbol in the original text that I didn't notice until I had already submitted it. I then resubmitted it without the trade symbol present.

The first rejection reason was Incorrect Formatting, which was to be expected due to the trade symbol. The second edit was rejected as Action Not Allowed. I suspect that is a result of the double-edit, but I wanted to verify before I resubmitted the text, in case there was an error in my submission.

The text that I submitted last can be seen below:
Quote

Your case and disc are from two separate releases of LittleBIGPlanet 2 - Special Edition. BCUS-98372 is the standard retail release. However, BCUS-90260 is a Not For Resale release. BCUS-90260 may be a part of the Sony PlayStation Move Bundle - LittleBIGPlanet 2 - Special Edition, although I couldn't find any collection of photos that prove this assumption.

Thanks for letting me know. I figure it's always best to double check than to risk adding misleading information.
