No, people don't hate Pat. They only hate him because PewDiePie said so. You have to remember people are not capable of thinking for themselves anymore, they have to have someone tell them how to think and how to feel, especially PewDiePie's fanbase.
If you have no intent on actually arguing with people but will simply decide their opinions have no substance, you are not exactly the warrior of free thought you think you are.

Modern Video Games / Re: How do you feel about always online games?
« on: February 05, 2019, 09:37:26 pm »
If it's free? Sure.

If it costs money? If it's particularly good but I'm wary.

If it has a single player campaign or is straight up a single player game? Fuck 'em

The problem with the argument the op presents is that what has "value" in collecting is 100% subjective. Value can range from "this game is super rare!" to "This game is somewhat crappy but I have nostalgic memories from my childhood"

Besides, seeking out only especially rare and valuable things isn't really what collectors do. That's moreso the confused investor stereotype of what collecting is

Yeah people don't like to be called bigot, misogynist, or racist either and that is honestly the fastest (but possibly not the best) answer to give someone who freaking out in your face calling you those because you told a joke, said you don't like a certain movie artist/genre of music, or said you just don't get something.
Not particularly relevant. There was no one accusing the man of being any of those things yet.

I suggest reading this article to know why people are posted off for that commercial. Personally I really like this quote from it to quickly describe why I don't like the commercial beside that the commercial sounded like it was talking down to its consumer base.
"Men are constantly barraged with criticism. “Men are the worst” has gotten old. The word masculinity is only preceded by the word “toxic” these days."

https://nypost.com/2019/01/20/that-idiotic-gillette-ad-may-have-turned-the-tide-on-toxic-masculinity/

Also from personal experience I remember being around two fights that broke out. One was between 2 guys or the theft of a wallet and "herbal substances" and the other was last year between 2 women where one basically got called a whore and I had to help break it up because children were outside to witness it and help my neighbor. her boyfriend wasn't there and it was between her cousin and her friend. It was the most trailer park trash thing I have witness.

I'm not sure how you interpreted my post because we are not talking about the same thing. OP was accusing "PC warriors" of being angry about the Gilette commerical when that was not what happened. Whether they were right in doing so is not being discussed, but the fact is that the people who were offended by the commerical were not at all connected to "SJW" movements, and OP was being dishonest by trying to act as if they were.

Yeah this was no meme people were legit upset and I was hearing about it on the radio at work for days

Yeah, I've heard plenty of pretentious pieces written by actual paid talkers about this supposed war on christmas and how Rudolph is being trashed by PC culture. Certainly never met anyone who was actually mad though!

Now I'm no tin foil hat conspirator but, this came out a few days after the CFO of Blizzard was fired, then executives and the founder of Blizzard left the company. Not to mention hypothetically it was probably being penned after the Diablo Immortal fiasco. I dunno just seems a little too coincidental for me.
Blizzard is indeed a shitty company, but the idea that them making their characters gay was some kind of attempt at damage control is indeed a conspiracy theory without much of a base to it.

I can say the same about the manufactured outrage created by "PC culture" such as being called a misogynist for thinking Ghostbusters 2016 looked like a bad movie from the trailers and how they were deleting criticism of the trailers.
Both things are bad. Reactives swarm either side of the spectrum and that's something people forget when complaining about the evil SJWs

In a weird way it kind of is since reproduction requires 2 people of the opposite sex and everyone on earth is living proof of that. Saying that does not mean I see anything wrong with people wanting to have a clam jam or play hide the pickle.
Your logic is...strange. The fact that two people had to screw to produce a baby does absolutely nothing to indicate what that child's sexuality will turn out to be. A character's sexuality is still ambigous until stated otherwise; especially since, y'know, there still happens to be hundreds of people who are attracted to both sexes.

Yeah, the whole pledge of allegiance thing was in a seperate reply by OP

I find that, more often than not, a lot of the backlash against "PC culture" tends to be either wildly taken out of context or based simply on strawman arguments. In fact, almost all of the examples you list are perfect examples of people basically making up PC incidents or taking the arguments out of context. For one thing, you go on a huge rant about all of the minorities your buddies with, and for what? Did you really feel that listing all of the things you do that you see as somehow politically correct would somehow strengthen your argument?

"Butthurt over gilette commerical" They were not, and in fact almost all of the people showing backlash towards it were on the far right

Nobody was offended by Christmas.Nobody. The whole Rudolph thing was a meme!

"Baby it's cold outside isn't a song about date rape" Agains, the outrage you're portraying here didn't actually happen, and to play devil's advocate: The song itself directly references the idea of date rape!

"Nobody cares if Solider 76 is gay" So what's the big deal then? If his sexuality is not relevant, why must he be seen as straight by default?

I'm not sick of PC culture nearly as much as people who are pushing this manufactured outrage towards it. If you want to oppose something I am at the very least going to expect you to argue against it in good faith instead of creating a characiture that's easier to knock down.

Also, it isn't altering something to retroactively assign a character a sexuality if they did not have one to begin with. Straight is not the default sexuality!

I don't see how criticizing the whole pledge of allegiance thing was even releated to PC groups. I see pointing out how creepy it is that we make kids declare their worship for their country every morning a simple criticism of how society functions. Why bring that up when it is not even related to the topic at hand?

Modern Video Games / Re: How important are graphics to you?
« on: January 25, 2019, 12:32:30 pm »
Honestly, the obsession the gaming industry has with making games look as realistic as possible kinda frustrates me. It seems like the whole point of making bigger, more powerful systems these days is to get games that look shinier, at the cost of the buyer having to pay for the process of dealing with their ridiculous filesizes.

I dunno, maybe I'm cynical, but I guess I'm the opposite of a graphics snob; I just think the quest to get the best looking games possible is just a massive waste of time.

Ill put it this way...I won''t judge others for their actions too much, but I would never, ever be caught dead being that guy who buys everything on a shelf and prevents anyone from getting it

It really annoys me how so many clickbait videos have taken that quote wildly out of context. He didn't say consoles are out, he said a future where they fall out of favor is something worth preparing for.

Also...

It goes hand-in-hand with the dying story-driven single-player experience.
This is a myth and the idea that single player games are falling out of favor is intentional manipulation on the part of companies that want this to be the case. God of War was a no bullshit single player story and was one of the most successful games of the year. Most of nintendo's succesful new games have been single player experiences sans Splatoon and Smash Bros. It's not that people don't buy them anymore, it's that companies like EA have been especially lazy about the idea of making them and want people to believe they're old news.

General / Re: Game Cases for Digital Titles: Yay or Nay?
« on: January 19, 2019, 04:55:26 pm »
If there's anything that makes me feel much more guilty than owning a digital game, its owning an empty game case. It'd always feel wrong looking at a bunch of hollow game cases! Pass from me

10
Threw away a game box as a kid or as an adult-

I had a habit of throwing away all of my DS-3Ds games and putting them into a case only a couple years ago. Never again.

Traded a game in to gamestop for less than a tenth of its value-

I hated the deal they wanted to give me but..I did it anyway? Lol.

Spoiled the ending of an rpg for a friend, ruining their experience-

They had accidentally spoiled the new Star Wars for me so I was vindictive, lmao

Ever made fun of someone for having a certain console

...I still feel compulsed to do this in regards to the Xbox One, lmao

250$. Guess my debt could be worse

I  have to call out you leaving out the original child gamer sin though-Putting your games in the wrong box out of laziness!

I definitely think there's gonna be an MK character in smash-I was suspicious after nintendo announced immediately that MK11 would be coming to the switch. Sure, its not a japanse series, but the message was clear after Joker that they'll be shooting much higher when it comes to off the wall DLC characters.

I'm gonna go on a whim and suggest Liu Kang as the MK character rather than either of the Sub zero-Scorption rivalry. Not only was he  the main character of the series before the two mascots jacked his spotlight, but he's a slightly more goofy character that would fit the tone of Smash Bros very well.

I'd absolutely adore Doom Guy in mortal kombat and I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants that. Put two games known for having loads and loads of gore together, it's a match made in heaven.
I cant stand Smash bros so I wont comment on it.

Someone who understands how I feel...❤️
some nasty wrongthink there guys

I definitely hate how people how a lot of people have totally accepted, if not embraced the idea that "games as service", digital only and the like as an absolute inevitable of the future. Like, do people realize that if the companies gain 100% control over your products, the artistic integrity of the medium is absolutely dead? So many people don't bother pushing back against the "digital future" idea because they don't stop and think about the myriad of problems it entails.

...That being said, defeatism doesn't help. There are still plenty of very genuine, good games being made and companies like EA are being roundly rejected for their behavior and losing quite a big load of money for it. Physicaly games are selling just as well as digital games and are just as common as their counterparts in some places. Preemptively deciding the medium is dead is only going to get it there faster

Personally I think it's immensely silly to get actively angry about ports being made, however many might come out. They're low budget works that are rarely made by inhouse dev teams; They effect nothing and take nothing away. They don't take spaces away for new games, they fill up empty space because they take nothing to produce. They aren't responsible for the Switch having a smaller library than the other two big consoles either, that's merely a result of it only having a 2-year lifespan.

I'll concede that them being tagged 60 bucks and marketted as new games is pretty stupid, though that still doesn't make their existence somehow harmful.

Now, in terms of the OP's question..

Yoshi's wooly world would be an immensely boring release, what with there already being a new Yoshi game coming out and Wooly World already having a 3ds port. Let the Wii U keep that one.

Super Mario Maker simply has to get on the Switch somehow, that game was so big it could've put the Wii U on the map had it come out earlier. I guess I'd prefer a sequel though, since when it comes to this sort of game a sequel basically just means the same game with a big nice bundle of new features.

I'd like a Pikmin 3 port plenty, but I'm wary because it it could end up signifying "no Pikmin for a while" and that'd kinda suck. If Pikmin 4's incoming presence means no port, so be it.

Super Mario 3D World is a big remnant of the """""New""""" era of Mario bros, where..ironically, everything was pretty much the same.  I dunno, it's a solid enough game but I was kinda hoping it and its 2D platformer counterpart would stay on the Wii U because of what they represent.

Wonderful 101...deserves a second chance, honestly. Poor thing fell into obscurity just for committing the crime of being a Wii U exclusive.

NES Remix? Low budget enough of a game that they might as well just make a sequel instead of porting it. SNES Remix perhaps?

Though...at the end of the day when I'm in a less open-minded mood, I'd say nothing at all because it just hurts to see the Wii U's already abysmally tiny library continue to shrink like that. Let the poor neglected child have something!

General / Re: Do Prefer Video Games That Have An End? Or Keep Going?
« on: December 29, 2018, 08:58:15 pm »
I sorta like having a definitive ending because it sorta represents a "break" with the game for me? Like..after that I can put the game in the background  and pick away at the slightly less exciting but still fun endgame content whenever I'm bored or just get an itch for that specific game. Having that bar to reach sort of helps make me have healthy expectations for the rest of the game; I definitively know I've exhausted the core content,  and slightly more busy-work esque content is what I'll expect.

To contrast, while I do love many truly sandbox games, I often feel immensely disappointed whenever I've exhausted all of the content. It doesn't feel triumphant to reach that point, it just feels like what I found exciting about the game has abruptly dried up and I have nothing to show for it.

Yea I tend to lose a lot of respect for anyone who brings up the whole "gamers are entitled" thing because its, in essence, a way to try to shield video games as a medium from criticism. Sure, there are a times where people complain way too much, but so often its a line of though that has no more substance than a smug "So what?"

The company announced a crappy mobile reskin of an unrelated game in place of an actual legitimate product. People absolutely have a right to call that out.
