Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Release Country TLD Master List
« on: April 23, 2024, 01:18:08 pm »
TLD is for the country the item is sold in, not what language is present. There is no default.

So, (Spanish cover), (Latin America), Back Code ID, anything? This needs a very specific rule, considering that the distribution chain in Latin America has always been scattered for this kind of products (My job is logistics related to the area).

That is fine. I just changed the MX one to use the same reference for descriptor so for now it is easier than to figure out the country.
https://vgcollect.com/item/217221

Then how should it be done for upcoming NA releases, since there could be up to 5 versions in the region: USA (ESRB, English), Canada (ESRB, English/French), Brazil (English and/or Portuguese, ClassInd), Mexico (Spanish, SMECCV), and the rest of Latin America (English and/or Spanish, ESRB)? Do we still default Latin America for old releases (pre-SMECCV) as MX (English and/or Spanish, ESRB), unless specified in the box, and something new for the rest of the region?

What country did you buy it in? You would search the used market in that country to verify other copies have the same qualities as yours.

Bought in CL, brand new (proof of purchase, with PII removed). Question comes from the point that it didn't came with the rating sticker "required by law" (The law requiring it has been essentially dead weight for years, very few retailers put them on)

EDIT: This is recurring theme with Latin America. I really don't know how to classify them anymore, since the distributors treat it as a single region, but you treat it as basically "Mexico or Brazil".

EDIT 2: Listing from retailers (matching UPC) in
CL: https://www.weplay.cl/horizon-forbidden-west-ps4.html
CO: https://www.alkosto.com/juego-ps4-horizon-forbidden-west/p/711719547631
HN: https://gamestation.hn/producto/ps4-horizon-2-forbidden-west/
UY: https://www.macrotec.com.uy/horizon-forbidden-west-nuevo-ps4

Even found it on the master list of a wholesale retailer in Miami that covers all of Latin America: https://www.rolagames.com/TitleListing.php

EDIT 3: "Bull by the horns". Created in https://vgcollect.com/item/264558 as "Horizon Forbidden West (3006528-AC)". Edit or delete as you see fit.

How would you classify this copy of Horizon: Forbidden West?

Front: https://i.imgur.com/eX6wMmx.jpeg
Back: https://i.imgur.com/2YF4VTP.jpeg

ESRB rating (so, not MX or BR), box texts in Spanish (so, not USA), and legal only indicating Latin American countries (yes, I just bought this in Latin America). Should it go with a (Spanish cover) descriptor or something?

Video Game Database Discussion / Nintendo "Middle East" releases
« on: August 09, 2023, 02:09:24 pm »
Hello there.

(To the mods: Sorry, I posted this in the General → Modern games forum by mistake. Now posting where it should be)

Just got a copy of Zelda:TOTK in South America, but it was a "Middle East" edition (ESRB rating, -USA cartridge, packaging in English and Spanish, same barcode as the US version, but the back doesn't fully match the US version. How do you classify this to add it into the database?

Below is a scan of the legal texts on the back.

Ok I have merged the two entries as a dupe. Remaining this:

I changed the title.
You can upload the art to this entry.

I was unable to confirm that HDR-0142 existed. If we find out it exists later, it can be recreated.

Seems that the one with the SA2 demo should be called a "First print" or something like that (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pso-includes-sonic-2-demo/1100-2642227/)

And it seems that HDR-0142 is a reprint (https://segaretro.org/Phantasy_Star_Online)

Or how about this. How many games are we talking about that have this issue? How many platforms are there?
Is it just PS3 and PS4?
Is it more than 25 games per platform that have these [LAT] releases?

Right now, from what I have here, is basically PS3 and PS4, all of them with box text in Spanish, ESRB ratings, a "latam" URI in the web address box (this can vary depending of publisher), and most important, a legal text indicating that is distributed in "Mexico, Central and South America", "The Americas", or a laundry list of Latin American countries (some newer games exclude Venezuela due to the US embargo). These are different from Brazilian releases (ESRB and/or ClassInd rating, text in Portuguese)

Nintendo games for Latin America (I have only one, but I've seen it for localised releases for Pokemon back in the day) end up with a -LTN (Also come with packaging in Spanish and ESRB rating).

Right, so I think i went through this one specifically. The reason it was rejected was not because it had obi strip, but it is the wrong version. From what I recall, the release with the blue labels are the regular edition and not the LE
https://vgcollect.com/search/advanced/54/%22phantasy%20star%22/no-filter/ALL/ALL/ALL/ALL/ALL/no-filter/no-filter/no-filter

The "Limited edition" was cancelled before release (https://www.gamespot.com/articles/phantasy-star-online-limited-edition-cancelled/1100-2646152/). The blue label says "PSO Network Usage Fee - 30 Days Free (See back for details)" and "Early Bonus - Sonic Adventure 2 Trial Version included".

Regarding [LAT] (and to be certain, psxlegacy posts [LAT] on the forum but still keeps putting (LAT) on items incorrectly), it should not be used as a guess. We do not want guesses in the database. It would be preferable to use actual country TLDs instead of a generic one. So with the Gran Turismo 6 option, [AR][MX] would be preferred over [LAT], or just [MX].

Also, regarding this: We had this argument before, and all entries I submitted as [LAT] a few months ago were forced to be changed to [MX], assuming that all of Latin America was Mexico, even when the distribution text indicates all the countries where the product was available (see description on https://vgcollect.com/item/165225 and https://vgcollect.com/item/163233 for more details). Shouldn't we have a perfectly clear rule on the style guide itself?

https://vgcollect.com/item/68823

Based on the Advanced style guide (https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10837.msg177804.html#msg177804), pictures with the Obi + stickers take priority, so I submitted them, but they were rejected due to "Incorrect Box Art". Should they be resubmitted?

This is a bit of a preemptive strike on me. Edited an entry to remove the barcode I added a while ago. Turned out that I actually had a Canadian version instead o a US version.

https://vgcollect.com/item/115459

Made a new entry for it.

What needs to be done on this?

Just remove the barcode.

I don't think there is a Canadian version, at least, I can't find evidence of one. I think this is a dupe situation as this game only has a North American release, not individual US and CA releases.
https://vgcollect.com/item/115459 <-- original entry
https://vgcollect.com/item/165592 <-- "Canadian" entry

That's why I made the [CA] entry out of caution. Should I combine them then?

OK, just fond that the Amazon US entry for it has the EN/FR cover. Just submitted the edits to the original entry, and the dupe should be removed.
