General / Game Awards 2022 early predictions?
« on: September 25, 2022, 03:24:09 pm »

Now that Tokyo Game Show has come and gone and we just had both a Nintendo Direct and a State Of Play before it and both Ubisoft and Disney/Marvel had events a few days before that I'd argue that The Game Awards is the last major gaming event we will have this year. With that said what are some predictions for what we'll see at the show.

For me I think Xbox and Ninja Theory will give us a date for Hellblade 2. Otherwise I have no idea as The Game Awards has always been a very mixed bag so who knows not expecting much.

General / What are your dream developer/Series pairings?
« on: April 22, 2022, 01:08:41 pm »
If you could have any game series be revived/retooled by a specific developer what game series would you pick and what studio would you like to see work on them. What are your dream IP and Studio pairings?

For me I'd love to see Microsoft let Playtonic make another Banjo Kazooie game since the team is mostly comprised of former Rare devs who made the old school B&K games.

Probably our last look at Ghostwire Tokyo before launch otherwise I'm not too sure.

As it would seem Bungie will remain third party on all platforms they're already on... I have to wonder why Sony would spend  billions to acquire them in the first place. The deal eludes to Bungie IPs becoming bigger... possibly shows or movies?

I don't get it. Maybe Sony buying up Bungie is some kind of weird insurance policy against the likes of Microsoft and Tencent acquisitions? Buying Bungie ensures their games will remain on Playstation platforms? Seems like an expensive insurance policy though.

I think they bought them so they could own a live service games as a service title. Look at Minecraft Microsoft bought it in 2014 and have kept it on every platform under the sun meaning whenever the latest dlc drops for the game Microsoft just gets to sit back and rake in the cash. I think Sony is trying to do the same. Destiny has a decently sized player base and with the game being on pretty much every platform (except Switch) and not costing anywhere near as much to make/add on to than something like God Of War or Horizon Sony gets to sit back and let the cash roll in which they can then use to fund a lot of the single player narrative projects they are known for.

Last year saw a lot of game devs/publishers being acquired across the industry. Xbox easily reigned supreme with their acquisition of Zenimax Media the parent company of Bethesda, Arkane, ID Software and many others. Tencent Sony and Embracer Group also made a volley of acquisitions throughout the year (Embracer's acquisition of Gearbox and Sony's acquisitions of Housemarque and Bluepoint being standouts) heck even the elusive Nintendo opened their wallet and snapped up Luigi's Mansion 3 developer Next Level Games. With that being said what are some studio acquisitions you think could happen this year. Also are you okay with the number of studios being scooped up recently or do you think it's a bad thing for the industry?

General / Most Anticipated Games for 2022

With 2022 fast approaching that means another year of new game releases. Based on what we know is coming out next year so long as games don't get delayed (for example Horizon and GOW were originally planned for this year) what are you most excited to play next year?

General / Game Awards predictions?

In 3 days The Game Awards 2021 will air. I know not everyone is a fan of The Game Awards but one can't deny the show has had some big reveals over the years. For those planning to watch what do you think/hope we will see? or will this year's show be a disappointment?

Modern Video Games / Rate the Smash DLC

With Sora's announcement last week Super Smash Bros Ultimate has wrapped up its development. With that said, looking back how would you rate the DLC characters we got (Piranha Plant-Sora) who were your favorites and least favorites ETC.

General / Crystal Dynamics working on Perfect Dark?
« on: September 26, 2021, 12:23:16 pm »
It was announced a few days ago that Square-Enix subsidiary Crystal Dynamics will be assisting Microsoft's The Initiative on their reboot/revival/re-imagining/IDK? of Rare's Perfect Dark series. What do you think of the news. Is this worrying for Crystal Dynamics future? Did Avengers do so bad that Square-Enix doesn't see any value in their talents anymore? If Perfect Dark does well could Microsoft look to buy them from Square-Enix? It's especially weird when you remember that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Tomb Raider series which is the franchise that put them on the map as talented developers after they took it over from creators Core Design, and they appear to be doing absolutely nothing to mark the occasion. Hell all we got was a Lara skin in Fortnite which is not a lot honestly.

What do you think because if you ask me this is a very weird/interesting development to come out of the two companies (Microsoft/The Initiative, Square-Enix/Crystal Dynamics).

General / Game of the year contenders
« on: September 17, 2021, 06:23:27 pm »
I know the year isn't over yet but within 1-2 months we'll start to hear from The Game Awards and various gaming websites/journalists what games they consider worthy of the title game of the year. Based on what's released so far this year what games do you think will wind up in the GOTY conversation/ what is your game/games of the year. My bet's are Monster Hunter Rise, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Psychonauts 2, Deathloop, and maaaybe Halo Infinite?.

Also what's getting snubbed this year. My bet is Pokemon Snap.

General / Re: What is your dream Marvel video game senario?
« on: September 14, 2021, 01:39:44 pm »
I'm not a fan of Marvel or DC. I'd much rather see a dark and gritty Ninja Turtles with realistic graphics with a great storyline. Here's what I'd want from it:

 - Single player main campaign with optional online co-op.
 - Different parts of the story revealed depending on which Turtle you play as.
 - Dump the kiddy feel. Some humor from Mikey would be a given, but make it dark humor.
 - Take inspiration from the comics with violence. Have them use their weapons.
 - Have the guys look like the original the 1990 movie versions.
 - Have unlockable skins from the different versions.
 - Have the ability to go to an arcade and play the original arcade game with friends.
 - Use the history of the Turtles as unlockables via comics, original artwork, historical videos, interviews, etc. Make it a celebration of the franchise.

That'd be dope as hell. However seeing as the Turtles are owned by Nickelodeon now I can't imagine they'd want to do something like that as they probably want to keep the series 'kid friendly'. I'd buy it though.

Yup. Don't really play much VR these days but that seems like a cool concept I'd be willing to check out.

An open-world RPG set in the Marvel Universe. Something like Skyrim but Marvel. You could have a number of preset characters to choose or make your own. They could make so many cool quests from comic storylines. The main storyline could be some epic story like Infinity Gauntlet or Secret War. They could even do spin-off expansion worlds like Age of Apocalypse or 2099 (like how Shivering Isles was to Oblivion).

And of course I'd like to see Bethesda make it.

That'd be amazing  :)

General / What is your dream Marvel video game senario?

Today's announcement of Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac games during the PlayStation showcase was great. Wolverine is my favorite superhero so to see him get a big budget video game is awesome from the makers of Spider-Man and Miles Morales Insomniac Games no less, and speaking of the web head Spider-Man was one of the best PS4 games as was Miles so seeing a sequel is awesome as well. Venom looks sick as hell. Square-Enix also showed off another trailer for their Guardians of The Galaxy game.

We got Spider-Man and Wolverine from Sony/Insomniac, with Sony also doing the Iron Man VR thing. Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy from Square-Enix, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 from Nintendo/Team Ninja, and that Midnight Suns thing from 2K.

That got me thinking what's a dream pairing between a Marvel character/series and a game developer that you would love to see become a reality. Since the shut down of Disney Interactive a few years ago it seems like Disney has been no stranger to licensing out their IPs to various developers across the industry for both first and third party offerings. So with that in mind what developer would you like to see be able to tackle a Marvel Comics superhero and who should it be?
