General / Re: A Year in Review - 2023
« on: December 13, 2023, 01:06:59 pm »
tis that time o year

Favorite 2023 Release: To be honest I didn't play that many games (that released) this year, as I was playing more older ones but Touhou 19 was pretty fun, Advance Wars 1+2 was cool too

I guess if I had to choose, Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe was pretty fun to play with my friends.

Least Favorite 2023 Release: Super Bomberman R 2. I haven't played too much of the story, but the "open world" is pretty boring, and bland. Castle mode's ok, kinda wished there was a map creator for normal maps.

Favorite Game Played in 2023: Astro's Playroom. Best intro I could ask for to my first Playstation Console. Shoutouts to: Disgaea 6, Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, and 100% Orange Juice.

Least Favorite Game Played in 2023: All the Neptunia Games I've played this year have been boring, and pretty much require grinding (or just getting the dlc characters for better abilities, which i did considering I got the 3-Pack with some DLC included with it.), plus, both did this annoying this where you'd have a boss to beat and I'd be like "man that was a challenge, but I got through it" and then after a cutscene they'd just hit you with a second stronger one, and I'd be fine with it if they at least healed my units, but not only do they not, but the boss is always faster so it goes first and One-Hits one of my teammates, so I'm basically screwed. Even worse in Neptunia VII, there's no healing before the 1st boss begins, the only place you could heal was if you left the dungeon. You know, the four floor maze dungeon that's the 2ND area in the game. But I would say the worst game I played this year was Touhou Genso Wanderer, because I could at least get through the first dungeon in Neptunia. Who the hell thought to make the first dungeon 38 Floors?? PLUS if you die you restart the whole thing AND get reduced back to level 1.

Though I played this last year, Cris Tales was extremely boring.

Sleeper Hit of 2023: Pretty much the same as my Best Game of 2023.

Favorite Gaming Moment in 2023: Playing Astro's Playroom for the first time. (It really hit for me)

Proudest Collection Accomplishment of 2023: Getting my first Playstation Console!

Probably not a "Collection" Achievement but still

Anyway, Here's a top 7 list of my favorite and least favorite Games I played this year:

Favorite
  • Astro's Playroom
  • Rivals of Aether - I can make touhou smash bros (the mods honestly bring this game up from being good to amazing)
  • Disgaea 6 - JRPG comedy done right
  • 100% Orange Juice - The only "Mario Party Like" I've found fun
  • Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe
  • LittleBigPlanet 3 - just plain fun, dunno how to make good levels but I've played a lot of em
  • Persona Q - One of the few RPGs I found myself getting into
Least Favorite
  • Touhou Genso Wanderer
  • Megadimension Neptunia VII - for the reasons listed above + JRPG comedy done wrong
  • MONARK - pretty boring and has this weird spike in level when the bosses arrive, which means grinding!!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  • Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus - don't
  • Monster Prom - I don't actually remember much from this as I refunded it but I remember not liking it
  • Super Bomberman R 2
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - least bad game here, but I think it had kinda boring combat. I'm trying to like JRPGs but like I can only find like a few I like

Well as someone who's into game collecting and stuff as most of us here are, game prices are weird because of how they fluctuate. I'm kinda young so I don't have many rare games in my collection. The 6 (because if I go to 10 I'm just diving into ""recent"" switch games) most expensive items (not including consoles) I have are.... (all prices are based on pricecharting.com)

- Super Mario 3D All-Stars (78.23 yeah you could probably guess that)
- Joker Amiibo (70.55)
- Mario Party Advance PAL Version (59.32)
- Kirby's Dream Collection (53.00 but I swear this was like 60.00 a few weeks ago or something)
- Tomodachi Life [Nintendo Selects] (49.99)
- Kirby Canvas Curse (19.99)

I don't really have any sealed or new games as I wanna play every game I get.

I will never forget how I traded Pokemon White 2 into gamestop when I was 9 and got like ten dollars out of it. (If you're wondering, it's 100+ dollars now.)

« on: August 22, 2023, 01:25:52 pm »
Well, I think I'm younger than most people here so my choices may seem kinda weird, but here are my top 4 consoles (Not really in order).

PS4/5
The PS4 has games! (audience gasp)

Personally I think the PS4 has a lot of Variety. I saved up for a PS5 and got it back in Spring Break, opening me to the Playstation library of games, but I've mainly played PS4 Games. (I mean I have 11 PS4 Games and 1 PS5 game not counting Astro) The amount of Variety means it has games for everyone to enjoy. Plus, the controller feels awesome to use. Also, the actual console looks nice too.

Nintendo Switch

I can bring it to the funeral!!!!!!!!!!

The Switch is awesome to me. It may not be the best graphically, But the great library of fun games definitely makes up for it. The Joy-Cons also allow for Multiplayer anywhere you go (Which is pretty cool for someone like me who's still in school)! Plus I have a soft spot for it as it was how I discovered one of my favorite video game series.

Nintendo 3DS

nostalgia bias

Ho boy, the DS! This is how I got into gaming (Mario Kart DS was my first ever game)! I will forever love these systems no matter what. They are a joy to have and play. If I had to choose from the 3DS and DS though, I think I'd pick the 3DS over the DS, most likely because I honestly like the games on the 3DS more.

Nintendo Wii

And finally, The Wii! (Yeah I mostly played Nintendo consoles with a bit of Xbox sprinkled in before I got a PS5.) You wouldn't believe how many hours I spent playing Wii Sports Resort with my family. The Games on the Wii are pretty good, though forced motion controls are kinda annoying sometimes.

« on: July 09, 2023, 01:14:00 am »
Totally for me.

For me at least, I usually get stuck at some part of the game (whether that be a puzzle or a difficult boss) and never get the energy to pick it back up again.
I experienced this especially with Pokemon games. I tried to pick some up recently, but I get stuck on the 2nd or 3rd Gym and can't find myslef able to pick it up again.

tbh I've only ever completed 2 RPGs I've ever played, That being Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (the 3DS remake) and Miitopia (Switch remake).

6
For June, I didn't get much really. Just kinda growing my small PlayStation collection.

PS4
LittleBIGPlanet 3
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Marvel's Spider Man

7
Was on Vacation with Family in Alabama, Georgia. Picked up 3 games.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania (Anniversary Edition)
Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny (Unrelenting Edition)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3

As well as 2 games in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium

Street Fighter Alpha 3
Mega Man The Power Battle

General / Rarest Items in Game Collection?
« on: February 20, 2023, 10:08:41 pm »
What do you think are the rarest items in your collection? My collection is good (in my opinion, at least) And I don't really think I have anything super rare, but I DO have a complete copy of Mario Party Advance, which I think is pretty rare, mainly because I always see people selling GBA games out of box (Also people throw away the boxes because they were cardboard)

3. Start going to Retro Stores, like Game X Change or something
4. Start purchasing cheap (10-70$) Lots on ebay or something
5. Get More Game Room/Shelves (Seriously, I only have space for like 2 more Games)
6. Start getting things for older consoles (like N64)
7. Start making Good Youtube Videos

« on: December 27, 2022, 04:02:20 pm »
I think I'll start this Challenge, it'll probably be fun
Knowing myself, I'll do like most of the challenge in the 1st month of summer instead of keeping a week average
Due to School n stuff I'll be doing a good amount of Games on the trusty unblocked GBA Emulator
Maybe I'll even pick up some of my random Licensed DS Games that I found in the garage one time

1. Touhou Youyomu ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom (Touhou 7) / January 2nd
2.
