Post your sweet finds/deals/sick grabs here!

Well yeah, but there are different worlds, with different level layouts n enemies. Each world has a boss fight at the end of it as well, and there are number of additional objectives that can increase or multiply your score.  So its a bit more structured  compared to Geometry Wars imo.

Nex Machina is more like a twin stick shooter such as Robotron 2084/ Smash TV, which is fitting considering Eugene Jarvis worked on Nex Machina.

That one is definitely worth picking up; very solid game.

Oh boy, this is gonna be a big one to break down.

Censorship- You are quite incorrect on the whole " tv/movies/media never get scrutinized to the same degree of games".  A number of shows, most notably Game of Thrones, have constantly been criticized by people for showing too much violence, gore, and sexuality. While I do agree that a number of censorship is unnecessary and is only there to help make it marketable, a game dev should always consider what the point is of adding stuff in a game like " you can kill children". In addition, lots of movies and tv shows have been criticized recently for being repetitive ( superhero movies, certain tv shows for unfunny comedy), so it more of a case of the business side of marketability dominating the creative aspect, as money talks in these large industries.

Some games, like Hatred do this for either shock value which may seem liberating at first, but if it doesn't have an impact on the game or it overshadows numerous other problems that the games exhibits, then it won't be a meaningful experience worth playing again. After all, the goal of a game should be to not only fulfill a developer's vision, but to provide an gameplay experience that is engaging and worth replaying numerous times.

Violations of Fair Use- This is more of a problem of IP laws being different by each country ( Japan's is very strict) and having to be enforce worldwide, and that IP law as a whole is not adapted for the modern age. Most of IP Fair Use issues are with automated systems that also manage challenges to those claims, which is pretty unfortunate. This would need to be addresed with another congressional act to fix defencies with current IP law, but as it stands, it'd only become worse due to the way our country is now.

Media Lies- The toughest aspect. Just look around the net, find sites that have decent reviews and commentary, and find good people.

Real suggestions: There needs to be more middle-tier developers that are willing to experiment with ideas ( which might not happen due to high development costs on modern platforms)
- More arcade-style games
-Less emphasis on gimmick, adding FPS mechanics. I think Western devs have been suffering heavily from that this generation, compared to quite a lot of good material from Japanese devs by comparison.

Not real suggestions: Rando SJW bashing just because you feel like everyone wants to hear your venting. The marketplace will decide which ideas flourish and which ones won't succeed.

Did anybody see the prices on Shantae for the 3DS? It's a solid $60 now  :o

That's mostly for new copies, even tho pre-owned at GS is gettin harder to find. I did pick up the last new copy in my area today, thankfully.

Modern Video Games / Re: What would you like to see in Fallout 5?

Ideally: Bring back additional rpg mechanics, put in meaningful dialogue and sidequest choices with interesting story lines, make siding with different factions have more of an impact,  less dev time, and use a new engine

Realistically: Todd Howard will hype us up for FO5, only to end up being another ehhhhhhh game within 6 months of release.

Bethesda's internally developed products from the last few years have been dissapointing, and i don't expect much to change, especially from a management standpoint.

Beat Elemental Master and El Viento on Geny without having to continue on either

Now I'll probably take on one of the Thunder Forces, while continuing to play Landstalker

Don't want to open a new thread for this but can somebody please tell me what the hell is wrong with Miitopia for the 3DS, game was about 40 bucks a couple days ago at eBay and now is around the 110 bucks, my daughter really want it since she already finished the demo, in fact was about to purchase the title this next Friday but am not gonna pay that ammount of money for it, it's even less expensive at Mercado Libre  :o
My best guess is that it either had a low physical print run or companies have run out of new stock for the moment. It can still be bought physically on Gamestop.com for $40 in the states, and $52 on Amazon Mexico.

General / Re: What Kind of Competition Don't You Like In Video Games
« on: September 01, 2017, 04:51:17 pm »
and one day I decided to check the game on GameFAQs, went to the message boards and saw that someone had posted his times/scores for the challenges. His numbers were higher than mine in some, so I redid the challenges until I got higher numbers than him, which I did.

In sober doses, competition is good. As someone I knew from another forum used say: it avoids stagnancy.

Fair play is a rare thing these days, though.
:( sadly the only way to be for sure if someone made a high score is on a public arcade machine in an arcade back in the day ???
That's how Twin Galaxies rose and fell through the ranks of serious scoreplayers. Their rigid ruleset and " pay to submit" submission system ended up going too far in the other direction so people just post elsewhere. A image or replay usually helps with score submissions, even if i've been accused of cheating cuz of MAME :p.

Basically, I beat the arcade versions of Contra and Super Contra on 1 credit each. Super Contra forces you to play all stages again on a higher difficulty, and I died on the 2nd iteration of stage 1.

For the NES Contra I played through all of the stages 3 times to completion before dying on the 4th time i played stage 5.

On NES Super C, I played through all of the stage 2 times to completion before dying on the 3rd time I played stage 7.

Hopefully that clears up any weird arcade terminology in my previous post.
