Yup - funny enough, the whole IGN review plagiarism debacle is what made me really pay attention to it. Looks like my kind of game.  ;D

Doug has seemingly hinted that LRG will be doing their own release of Bard's Tale Remastered.

Is this the PS2-era "not really" Bard's Tale game, or the remaster that's being worked on of the 80's original?

A *LONG* overdue update!

And there are so many upcoming games that I hit the post limit again - trimmed up some of the header text and it fit...for now!  :o

Im pretty sure they are not intended to make people double dip. I know Douglas has seemed shocked and/or pissed at a few of the redos (I know Ghost Blade was a touchy one for him).

Ive bit on the double dip a few times. I wanted to keep both my LRG and Play Asia set complete so I have 2 copies of RIVE for example. Ys Origin got released with an Asian/English version before the LRG one was actually announced so I have 2 copies of that game well. Wonder boy seems to have 3 different versions eventually.

Its a nightmare already to keep up with all the indie releases already without mentioning multiple companies releasing the same game.

Well having more than one company release a game is a bit different. I'm talking about when some of these guys release a game for Switch that they previously already released for ps4/vita, and it was already out on the Switch at the time. If they're hinting that Phantom Breaker will get a Switch release, I'll gamble and wait.

One good thing about there being so many of these games getting physical releases now is that the number of people trying for complete collections is seriously dwindling. That means many of these games don't hold their value on the secondary market. I picked up Flinthook and Lili for the PS4 on Ebay about a month ago, both sealed, and paid less than they originally sold for on LRG. And I'm currently addicted to Flinthook, so I'm very glad I was able to grab it. :)

I'm concerned some of these places are - either on purpose or inadvertently - trying to con us into double dipping on some of these games. For example, I know Phantom Breaker is out for the Switch as well, so what are the odds that LRG announces a Switch release after the PS4/Vita release is done?

I'm not talking about anyone here, but I've never understood why some people make such a big deal out of preordering a video game - like it's taking some kind of moral high ground by not doing it. It's a convenience. You're not signing a blood pact with the developer, Gamestop doesn't ask for part of your soul - it's putting $5 down on a game to ensure that when it releases, you'll be able to go to the store you frequent and know it will be there. And sometimes, you get bonus goodies for it. That's it.

If you hear the game sucks before picking it up (and if I'm ever unsure, I always wait for reviews before picking my game up) you just cancel it.

So yes, I do it for the convenience and I also do it because it helps the guys at my store and they are always super friendly and go above & beyond helping me out with things (holding promo items for me, giving me preorder stuff they have extras of for games I didn't preorder, tracking down games & other items at other stores & having them sent over when no one in my area has them, etc.).

Late Shift announced as Rabi-Ribi replacement for August 10th.

I'll try to start building some stuff for Gamestop exclusives.  If you are interested...  Bendy and the Ink Machine is up for preorder at Gamestop on Switch as a GS exclusive.

Nice...actually, it looks like it's coming to all 3 systems, and all 3 are GS exclusives. There's a Switch tax on this one, $29.99 vs $19.99 on the PS4/XBOne. I'll be grabbing this one for PS4 because my wife has been wanting to play this game ever since we saw some footage of the PC version last year, and she likes to play on her own consoles. ;)  If I'm adding another game to Oct, I'd just as soon save the $10 anyway.  ;D

Not sure that it 100% fits here but it will probably be of interest to ppl who frequent this thread - Home Sweet Home, a Korean horror game, will get a physical release that's exclusive to Gamestop in October. It will be $29.99.

WTF are you people? Not one response so far mentioned D R A G O N  Q U E S T  X I ...... Seriously, nothing else on this list is going to touch DQ XI.

I have had this 2-part conversation w/ a Gamestop employee over the past month or so, if it helps:

Him: Ooo, what about that Code Vein?
Me: Nope, it's releasing too close to Dragon Quest, it'll have to wait.
Him: It looks so good tho!
Me: Dragon. Quest.

couple weeks later....

Him: Did you hear? Code Vein got delayed. :(
Me: Yeah, I was happy to hear that.
Him: What!?!? Oh that's right, you said you're getting Dragon Quest.
Me: Yes. NOTHING else will compete with Dragon Quest, that game is getting played day-1.

So, here's my Sept-Oct. pickups. Only others I may grab will be any LRG/Play-Asia/etc. limited print runs that get announced & catch my eye.

Dragon Quest XI - 9/4
Spidy (w/ system) - 9/7
Spyro Trilogy - 9/21

AC Odyssey  - 10/2
Home Sweet Home (GS exclusive) - 10/16
SoulCalibur VI - 10/19

At least Fallout 76 wasn't on the list.

But WHY? I'm not talking about if you like what they're doing with it or not, that's irrelevant - if they're listing talked-about games, it was more talked about than easily half of that list.

Very nice Ignition, thanks for compiling all of this for us! :D

BTW, does anyone have any idea what the mystery LRG game is going to be this Friday?

Yeah someone posted a few weeks back : https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,8309.msg155556.html#msg155556

That would be me. ;)

It still baffles me how ignored the P-A exclusive releases are (not just here, but judging by how long they take to sell out everywhere). The amount of bang for your buck compared to LRG isn't even close. I guess the word "import" just scares people off, even tho - especially now that they offer free shipping on all of their exclusive releases - there's literally no difference. Some might argue ship time, but given that I have LRG orders that still don't even have a ship date (or window) that I'm aware of that doesn't track either. Guess I shouldn't really complain, I like not having to fight to order their releases - but at the same time, I want them to do well enough to keep doing them.

I just remember all of those things - Atari 2600, Intellivision and Colecovision in particular - co-existing when I was a kid. No one thought of any of those as "seperate generations" of systems, they just were. Companies were just throwing things at the wall to see what stuck. And outside of those 3 brands, I had never even heard of the others at the time. The NES was the "reboot", the recovery after the crash, and it stood out at the time as clearly being something new & different. I was aware of the Master System, but it didn't have any traction in my area - I don't think I knew a single person who owned one. Then the Genesis/SNES was the first clearly defined "this is a new generation" that came after that - there was a clear break between those companies' old & new hardware & software, and was the first clear example of what we now know as changing hardware generations.

So yes, I agree with Wikipedia - everything pre-crash stands as one generation in my mind.

Shikhondo: Soul Eater, a bullet hell shooter w/ an amazing art style, is up for order now. Both standard & limited edition versions are available for Switch and limited edition only for PS4 - PS4 will ship in July, Switch sometime in Q4. Free shipping, and as usual GEMATSU will save you an extra $3.
