Video Showcase / Take your pick
« on: March 01, 2020, 11:41:45 pm »
It's been a while since I posted any videos here, so now you can take your pick!  Here are a few relevant videos for game collectors.  Pick one, and if you liked it, watch another, lol. ;)  Posts in this thread receive thousands of views, but almost no replies, so don't be afraid to interact.  In any event, I hope you find something you like.  Take care.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but on the home page 'remember me' does nothing for me.  Anytime I visit I have to log in.  Meanwhile anytime I visit the forums I'm already logged in.  Same on a few devices/browsers.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, so sorry if this has already been covered.

I'd love to know the methods that you use to manage and organize your Game Boy games, or other small cartridges.  Happy Collecting, thanks!

We are days away from the Wii Shop's permanent closure.  I still have a balance of $14 to spend before it's too late.  What game(s) should I pick up?  What is the best optimization strategy?

(This story is true, but the thread is mostly just for fun.  I am aware of Wii hacking.  I'm just looking for your opinions.)

Video Game Database Discussion / Rejected edits
« on: November 20, 2018, 03:30:20 pm »
I submitted some database edits that were rejected.  I just want to explain the rational to the edits.

https://vgcollect.com/item/153288 & https://vgcollect.com/item/68485 share the exact same name, but are two distinct versions.  I tried to add "hosted by John O'Hurley" to the name of second one.  This blurb is directly from the cover art and would differentiate the two versions.

I created the entry for https://vgcollect.com/item/43893.  I'm fairly sure it was created as the 2nd edition.  In the time since, the name and picture have been edited to the 3rd edition.  I am now showing a game in my collection that I don't own.  I tried to edit the name and picture back to the 2nd edition but was rejected.

Thanks for taking a look, mods.  Let me know what's up.

The Playstation 2 Accessories category (https://vgcollect.com/browse/ps2accessory) includes both individual accessories and game and accessory bundles.

The standard Playstation 2 category has some game and accessory bundles listed here instead.  Some examples:

https://vgcollect.com/item/30043
https://vgcollect.com/item/30042
https://vgcollect.com/item/30039
https://vgcollect.com/item/30038
https://vgcollect.com/item/30040
https://vgcollect.com/item/30032
https://vgcollect.com/item/1407
https://vgcollect.com/item/30044
https://vgcollect.com/item/30046

I mildly prefer to have the games in the game category regardless of the inclusion of accessories, but I am willing to go along with the group consensus.  These are only some examples and it is likely that these discrepancies exist for other platforms too.

I had a thought about my Xbox and Xbox 360 games that I was able to turn into a 2 minute video for my YouTube channel.  Since I've successfully uploaded at least something every month for the last year, I also made this video a nice introduction and channel trailer.

I make the kind of content that I hope users on a video game collection website will find interesting and/or helpful.  That's why I'm sharing them with you guys here.  My collection is one of my passions and I love to think about it's problems and share any solutions that I've created or found helpful.  I would enjoy your feedback, either here or on the youtube comments.  Thank you again.

Site Feedback / Site Suggestion - Search within collection
« on: December 02, 2017, 12:47:05 am »
I brought it up a long time ago, but I think an option to search within your (or anyone's?) collection would be helpful.  Like I was just answering a post about golf games, and I wonder how many golf games I have.  Maybe user name could be added as a field in advance search, would that do it?  Thanks.

Video Showcase / 'Solving' displaying Gameboy cartridges?
« on: November 15, 2017, 09:55:27 pm »
It's a bold claim, but if you've had issues with figuring out how to display or shelf your Gameboy games (or other cartridges), I might have developed a new solution.

Modern Video Games / So Microsoft just gave me a copy of...
« on: June 12, 2017, 06:19:54 pm »
For watching E3 coverage on their Mixer platform, Microsoft is giving free digital rewards.
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/Xbox-E3-MixPot-faq

I got this 'MixPot', and it includes a digital license for Rare Replay, which I had already owned on disc.

So...should I sell my disc then?

Modern Video Games / Physical representation of digital collection
« on: June 06, 2017, 08:13:32 pm »
The other day I had the beginning of an idea that I was ruminating on concerning having a physical representation of my digital games, especially games that are digital only.  And then I saw a post on Kotaku that mirrored the thoughts I was having:  Fake Boxes For Downloadable Nintendo Switch Games http://kotaku.com/fake-boxes-for-downloadable-nintendo-switch-games-1795806788

This article showed me that at least the idea of a physical object holds some weight in the collector’s mind, so I decided to introduce my ideas here for open debate.  Now I am personally of the opinion that a full game case is a bit extravagant, at least in relation to shelf space.  My first thought involved making cards to represent my digital game purchases.  What I am proposing is a series of cards for each digital platform designed off of the same overall template, with each storefront having it’s own brand specific template.  All relevant game information should be included such as number of players, cover art, game synopsis (i.e. text ripped from the game’s listing), tech features (resolution, applicable controllers), ESRB, possibly release history, etc.  It should mimic the cover art of the physical version in most ways and games without a physical release would get new covers created.  These could then be printed and added to your collection as games are purchased.

Would you have any use for an idea such as this?

At first I was thinking of playing card sized cards, but then I sort of fixated on having cards that more match the size of the physical media case.  For example I would have a stack of 5”x7” cards for my Xbox 360 Live Arcade titles.  These could then be placed on my media shelves with my game discs, or even stacked inside an otherwise empty game case.

Another consideration is whether to make these two sided or to have all of the game information on one side with a uniform back, for instance with a logo for the storefront on each back (PSN, XBLA, eshop, etc.)

I’m really just posting this to see what other collectors think, and to add to the conversation.  Please post your opinions and see where it goes!

General / BRE Software discontinuing Cases, booklets, artwork.
« on: September 17, 2016, 05:39:53 pm »
This is not a sponsored post.

I don't always buy used games but sometimes when collecting it is a must.  And when buying used, you don't always get the full package.  In the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube era, I had twenty games give or take in my collection that were missing instructions, or had ruined cases or similar issues.  I used BRE Software to fill those gaps.  I got an email from them that they will be discontinuing these items at the end of the month.  If you need instructions, case inserts, or full cases for your collection I highly recommend checking out what they have on offer.

US specific information: multi-player and all online features for Littlebigplanet Karting will be terminated and will no longer be available on August 31, 2016; July 31st for LBP PSP.

Even though I would love to further lament the lack of permanence in modern gaming, I instead want to celebrate my time with these games and use this opportunity to trade stories, levels/tracks, and memories.

Although I enjoyed LBP Karting, it never got into it as much as I would have liked.  In short, I like Modnation's gameplay more, but LBPK's creation tools more.

LBP PSP however, I thoroughly enjoy.  The story levels are fun and well put together and the creation tools, although more restrictive than it's console counterparts, are still robust and competent enough to allow for some really surprising and enjoyable user creations.  My PSN ID is TTTTop and I have three levels published on LBP PSP.  Would you consider checking them out before they are lost to time?

'12 Room Remix' is a standard obstacle course style level that is an adaptation of my 'Rooms' series that I published on LBP PS3. (80 plays at time of publishing)

'Buzzsaw Survival Challenge' is, of course, a survival challenge level.  I feel that it has a pretty good risk/reward system going for it.  The buzz saw is easy enough to avoid, but you want to get those score bubbles and keep your multiplier.  (43 plays at time of publishing)

Lastly 'The Sawmill' is a level that to this day I think is a favorite thing that I've created.  It's a straight forward level with some story, exploration, obstacles, and light puzzle elements.  It has several cleverly hidden, but not impossible to find prize bubbles.  I am particularly proud that the setting portrays a fairly believable space (at least in the beginning).  I just played through it for the first time in years and of course playing it with fresh eyes I can see it's flaws that I wish I could change, but I would like anyone here interested in having one last go with LBP PSP to please consider trying it out.  (43 plays at time of publishing)

Please share your memories and comments here too.  I know I'm not a super great creator so by Monday I'll share some of my favorite LBP PSP levels from other creators here.
