HAHA, I wish games had a male package slider, that would be hilarious.

That aside, I think it's stupid that NoA censors shit here, Something got removed in Fatal Frame V and I found that frustrating, but I didn't buy that game anyway because they won't release a physical copy in the US, which is another frustrating thing NoA does.

The removal of a feature so mundane shouldn't make or break your decision to buy a title.  I did cancel my preorder for XCX, but I did that because I decided that I'd rather have that money to buy Xmas gifts or pay bills or anything else for that matter, the fact that XCX isn't a Gamestop reprint $100 over charge exclusive, I can probably pick it up in a sale later on.

Saints Row V better have a male package slider or I'm cancelling my imaginary preorder...

Who am I kidding, shut up and take my money.

I look at a game like CoD or Battlefront and I know those games are multiplayer primarily, I don't do multiplayer, so I don't buy the games.  I certainly wouldn't buy either of those games and be butthurt that the campaign was short or it sucked, that's not the selling point with those games, not anymore.  Last CoD game I played was MW2, and from what I recall, I enjoyed the campaign, the whole betrayal/revenge thing was pretty cool.

I don't know, I say live and let live, if they want to complain let them complain, when it's folks spewing bile and hate trying to convince you that you are bad for liking it, then shit on them.  I generally try to ignore those folks.

I kind of stopped reading when someone said Tomb Raider sucked.  :p  I liked that game... very much, up there with Fallout in my top 2 franchises of current active IPs.

Let me put this discussion to bed, I'll try to explain this the best way I can.  Before DLC, a lot of companies would let go of a lot of employees shortly after releasing the game, because there was no work to be done.  Once the sequel or next title was approved, they would all get hired back on.  That's just how it worked, still works that way in some cases, they aren't going to pay you to sit around and do nothing, mind you they of course don't fire everyone.  With DLC, it allows the company to keep staff employed with work that will produce income, while waiting or preparing for the next title.

Including the cost of the "season pass" into the game's price, you are just forcing all of your consumers to pay for content that should otherwise be optional.  Pushing back the release window to add in all DLC content at release, well, you are at that same situation where developers get let go after release.  DLC is a murky thing for consumers, $60 for 100 hours of content and then asking for an additional $10 for 5 hours of content, the proportions are out of whack, I agree.  But the majority of developers out there will tell you DLC is a great thing.  Microtransactions however, are a different story, but we aren't talking about that.

For the past year and a half, every single trade or purchase I have made, I have recorded opening every single box, but I have never uploaded a single video, except for one mystery box, because it was part of the deal.

At some point I might start uploading them to youtube so I can get the like 15GB of video off my phone.

Just get it digitally. I downloaded it on Wii U, and I heard it's since come out on PS3.
I may be mistaken, but I thought it was on PS4 and Xbone as well.

I really want to buy Pier Solar for DC, but I keep not buying it because I don't want to wait 2 years for it to show up.  If I could order it and for sure have it arrive in a reasonable amount of time, I'd probably order it.

My sentiments exactly...
At the very least a guaranteed ship date or something.

I really want that Tomb Raider collector's edition, but it being a GS/ThinkGeek and SquareEnix exclusive was no good, I need that GCU.

I thought about trying to go back and figure what games I've beaten this year, but it's almost the end of the year, I may just wait and try to join in next year.

I guess I'll add games as I figure out which ones I've beaten this year.

Can I count Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes twice since I beat it on Xbone and PS4 this year?  lol

1) Mortal Kombat X (Xbone)
2) Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Xbone)
3) Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4)
4) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4)
5) Fallout: New Vegas (PC)
6) Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast and Furious (Xbone)
7) Saints Row: Gat out of Hell (Xbone)
8) WWE 2k15 (Xbone)
9) Dragon Age: Inquisition (Xbone)
10) SteamWorldDig (PS4)
11) SteamWorldDig (Wii U)
12) Shovel Knight and Plague of Shadows (Wii U)
13) The Fall (Wii U)
14) Super Metroid (Wii U Virtual Console)
15) Maximum Carnage (SNES)
16) Separation Anxiety (SNES)
17) Power Rangers the Movie (SNES)
18) EarthBound (Wii U Virtual Console) [Technically I did most of the game last year, but did the final section of the game this year]

I know before I moved I had spent quite a bit of time playing SNES games and I beat a few games, but I can't recall for sure what games I beat.  Definitely Maximum Carnage, Separation Anxiety, Power Rangers the Movie.  Played the 2 player games in that bunch with my wife and the 1 player one by myself.

Just finished MGS5 last night.

I wanna say I read that a lot of people were disappointed with the ending, I quite liked it.  I'm only disappointed that I did a certain main mission before finishing all of the side ops.  I'm hoping they patch the game so I can "undo" what happened, if just for functionality.

The last time I was really hyped for a game was probably The Sims 2. That's right, 2. I don't usually buy into hype all that much now. For me it often leads to disappointment, and poor purchasing habits. I don't get really overly excited about upcoming games anymore. But I remember back when GTA Vice City was coming out, the day it released I was in school. It was the longest day of my life, haha. In retrospect, it really wasn't all that good IMO. But that was back when the possibilities for new things in games were still very vast. There was a lot that could still in be done, in theory, when a game came out that we'd never seen before. Now games have pretty much done everything, at least that is how it seems to me.

I guess you could say I was mildly hyped about the release of Wet. The game charmed me somewhat, and I had followed it's development. I knew people were going to hate it. I bought it day one, and to this day, still have not played it, LOL! It was interesting to hear that the game was due to have a sequel, but was cancelled early on.

I think I tend to route for underdogs sometimes, games that I know people will tear to shreds because it's not Call of Duty, or Assassin's Creed, or Elder Scrolls, or Final Fantasy.
Man, Wet, I was fairly hyped about that game.  To me, I viewed it as a modern realistic take on Bloodrayne, you know, take out the vampires, dhampirs, and nazis, throw it in a modern day setting, and replace the gratuitous dry humping with a grindhouse art style.

I was pretty pumped for that game.  I rather enjoyed the game, but I definitely wouldn't even put it in my top 20 games.

General / Games you were hyped about leading up to their release.
« on: November 06, 2015, 09:07:46 am »
I had a conversation with a buddy of mine today and we were talking about games that we were hyped about leading up to their release.  Like butterflies in your stomach, cant effing wait for it to come out so you can enjoy it.

Obviously, this was brought on by the impending release of Fallout 4, which I am sufficiently hyped about.

There are tons of games out there that you are like, "Yeah, I'm gonna pick that up release day", but I'm talking bigger than that.

For me, those games were Smash Bros. Brawl, Timesplitters Future Perfect, Borderlands, and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess.

1) Timesplitters Future Perfect, the franchise that came after Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.  I loved Timesplitters 2, the first game was great, but 2 was magnificent.  I couldn't wait for the 3rd installment to come out.  I was in high school at the time, with a Gamestop not more than a few hundred yards away from the school.  So on release day, I sprinted to Gamestop so I could pick up my preorder and get back to the school to catch the bus home.  The multiplayer lived up to my expectations, even better in most cases, but the story mode was so fantastic in that game.  No shooter will ever surpass my love for the Timesplitters franchise, I dont even think Timesplitters Rewind will live it up the same way.

2) Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the lively party fighting game.  I loved playing Smash bros on the n64 with my sibling unit, I loved playing Melee with my siblings, friends, and classmates in high school and college.  My own personal situation with Smash Bros... My best friend, whom I had known since Kindergarten, passed away shortly before the release of smash bros brawl, I believe shortly after the original summer release window which was pushed back to Spring 2008.  He and I would do 2 things over pretty much anything else, Timesplitters and Smash bros.  I had looked forward to playing that with him, so it kind of became a bigger thing for me when it came out.  It came out right as Spring break started, so I spent that week and a half straight playing that game.  My girlfriend, and now wife, didn't appreciate the neglect and at the time had no interest in playing smash bros.

Going back to Timesplitters for a moment, we used to make story missions for each other to beat, which was really fun, but I owned a ps2 and he owned a gamecube.  We each had a ps2 and a gamecube memory card, so we could swap systems and play each others stuff, eventually I bought my own gamecube copy.  Some point down the line, my nephew pulled out my gamecube memory card while it was saving and it corrupted the entire memory card, partially my fault for buying one of those unreliable 3rd party memory cards with the janky compression and storage.  It devastated me.

3)Legend of Zelda Twilight princess, chronologically, this should've been second, but I didnt want to segragate those 2 games.  I wanted to play this game so bad and so impatiently, that I didnt want to wait for the gamecube release, so I bought a Wii, mind you those were pretty damned hard to find for a good while after release, and the game so i could play it as soon as possible.  I actually thoroughly enjoyed the motion controls, and the entire game altogether, even the thing with the fishing rod and Ganondorf, what a hoot.  I had a root canal around the release and spent a lot of time just wanting to do nothing and having trouble sleeping at night, so I played this game almost exclusively at night and played it for probably what was 2 weeks, one of my most fond gaming experiences because, as some of you might know, when you play games at night and in the middle of the night, there are literally no distractions from the outside world.  This story was less about the hype, but I was hyped enough that I spent time finding a wii and dropping the dough to get the system and game, it was a system seller for me.

4)Borderlands.  Borderlands was a special case.  I had been following borderlands from its inception.  It originally had a realistic art style and very very strong Mad Max tones.  The high level of guns, some misconceptions, or complete misunderstanding on my part.  I was thoroughly hyped.  I little disappointed when I heard about the art style change, but still very hyped.  Couldn't freaking wait.  I genuinely believed this could be the game to fill the void left by not having a new Timesplitters game, I think this was around the time we knew one wasnt going to be made, I cant recall.  But when that game loaded up and No Rest For The Wicked played, I was hooked.  Nothing like anything I had ever played before, and the humor melded well with the art style.  For some reason though, my interest in the series went downhill, havent figured it out yet.

There were and are tons of games I've been hyped about, but these had special circumstances, and that's what makes them memorable.

Fallout 4 might be memorable for me because I just bought a house and got a promotion, plus it comes out right as I conveniently have a week vacation.

What games were you guys hyped about leading up to their release?

My additions from yesterday

Anything Dreamcast makes me all warm and fuzzy inside :p
Initially I had only grabbed crazy taxi and midway classics, but the guy was like I really just need to get rid of them, offered to take the rest for dirt cheap a game and he was like yeah, but you have to take them all.  It's not often I see DC games, so when I can get them for a good price it's fantastic.  Plus if those top row of games weren't on my wishlist, they should've because I know I've been wanting those three.

Not that it's worth anything, but the Web Browser disc is sealed.  I really didn't want it, but it turns out that I don't have v1 of the web browser, so it's cool.
