A bit more relaxed in terms of pickups this month

Since I got a stack of Neo geo aes games, started to hunt for a console.

Not the greatest price but all in all a 350 euro loss. I think in japan they cost around 300 with 1 controller but this set was with less effort since it's just from europe.

Didn't need to get any cables even came with a stereo rgb cable.
Plus bios 4 update installed so I can just select USA region instead of having to play them games with japanese text.
The controller being boxed and an original memory card are also pretty sweet.

Was a bit late with this one, but it's one of my favourite ds games. Not a bad price got one for 110 shipped
Was super hard to find this game in my language but finally managed to do it. All where either spanish or french

Dragonball Z snes 50 euro loss
Megaman battle network 6 gregar 25 euro loss
Grandia guide 20 euro loss
fantavision ps2 5 euro loss
sos final escape 15 euro loss
Bikers spirit super famicom 10 euro loss
toruto kun super famicom 10 euro loss

Master of monsters cib 25 euro loss. a bit of water damage on cover. but it's a usa exclusive and the manual and cart where nice. I'll keep it around for now
Dark legend sega saturn 15 euro loss Kinda suprised with this one. Pretty solid fighter. Than again data east made karnov's revenge

Free deals all cib

captain planet
daffy duck
taz attack mars
007 duel
chuck rock II game gear
axe battler game gear

Package from Japan arrived. Primary purchases were the keyboard and the PS2 memory cards. The rest were just some good deals.

Speedrunning is the modern day high score list. I imagine a number of members here often frequented arcades during their prime, besting for that coveted top spot or even settling somewhere further down the column in the top 10. So, that there is a fair bit of animosity toward speedrunning is unexpected.

Usually with high scores you still play the games as intended, you don't often skip notable parts of the games or abuse glitches that make stuff piss easy. I don't really see the fun in beating pokemon red in 1min through some menu inputs. Ain't not much game left to play  ::)

I think 100% speedruns are less bad. cause in those allot of glitches usually ain't available and you actually play most of the game as intended compared to any%. and some games do have glitchless leaderboards aswell.

Not all games in speedrun form are bad, mainly the ones in which there aren't insane skips or are pretty low in the glitch department. also in the most extreme department of speedruns. Clue can be beaten in less than 1 second.

Still though There is a huge difference between people that speedrun and people that just want to enjoy the game as intended. I don't think it's that unexpected for there to be folks that dislike speedrunning. it's quite a different way to play games.

Finally at the very end of the day while categories exist within speedrunning, any % is by far the most popular and where competitors get the most prestige and thus how most people will view speedrunning overall.

I was never big into speedrunning but gave it a shot on the OG Resident Evil on PS1 back in the late 90's. I ended up just shy of 90 min which I thought was pretty damn good.

I looked it up this morning and as of a couple years ago, the record holder sits at 38.04 minutes with a slew of others in the 38-39 min range behind him. That's intense and I feel there must be some cheats involved somehow.

Kudos to the record holder. Let's assume it's a legit run with no cheats or glitches taken advantage of. Still impressive. Now what? Is there anything other than bragging rights that only the person in the top spot and those on their coat tails care about?

Unless you entered the glitchless leaderboard. high odds that they used some glitch to skip some parts. I do recall multiple resident evil games having sizable skips.

3
While certain games are better for speedrunning than others, overall Speedrunning ain't for me.

It ruins the game for my taste, especially cause in plenty of speedruns you are going to skip fun parts and or abuse certain bugs to blaze through the game. I don't see the fun in that personally. That being said props to the folks that enjoy and invest the time into it.

150 seems kinda cheap for a collectors edition. It's been worse with quite some bigger titles, with such a huge game as GTA VI there's gotto be some 200+ $ collectors edition

As stated, I think 2024 will be the year we get to see the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo calls it. I do think it'll be similar to the current Switch in terms of its hybrid handheld/console setup, however it'll have the added bonus of a 4k screen and games made to play in 4k too.

I think even a 4K screen is being optimistic Let alone games made to be played in 4K. I highly doubt it considering Nintendo's being low on them specs since Wii era.

Nintendo has always gone low end for specs.  That's their whole thing and how they cornered the handheld market.

Where talking consoles here though, not handhelds

Nintendo wasn't always about low specs to keep stuff cheap. during snes, N64 and cube era in terms of specs they where actually the most powerfull or far above average compared to competitors

Believe it or not a cube was twice times as powerfull compared to a Ps2 than again it does make sense why cube games look so much better compared to ps2 games, and while ps1 had discs for storage, in terms of raw power N64 had it beat for faster paced games and generally world generation it only lacked storage but if not for that it was far more powerfull than a ps1. And let us not start with the snes. It had the other notable competitors beat at everything barring blast processing.

I think the Switch 2 will be the last console to embrace physical media

Japan is quite the fiend With physical Media, And especially with that Nintendo Nostalgia I highly doubt switch 2 will be the last gen for physical

For the other consoles yes, but I don't think this will be the case with Nintendo.

Oh I have been well and truly priced out this gen! Right now, I should be enjoying Final Fantasy VII Rebirth but the audacity of them charging £70 for a standard copy gets the worst of my stuborn side - Which doing a $-£ conversation makes £70 = $89! The Deluxe Edition is £100! And you don't get a whole lot with it - Tiny artbook, sample CD Soundtrack & a Steelbook. But it is my favourite series so I have caved in - But ordered online from a Questionable retailer who are selling it for £75 but I won't receive it until a week later - At least that is what happened with my previous experience buying from them with FF16.

It used to be about £40 for a Standard Edition & £50 if you wanted a minor upgrade with a Steelbook. But the greed of this industry has taken over and ruined the concept of Day One Purchases for me. And I know the industry is struggling and can justify the rise in cost but it doesn't end there does it? Day One usually had the game at a technical disadvantage and these days always requires follow up patches. Then there is DLC, so usually buying a game Day One is incomplete for anothe reason with extra content withheld and spliced back into the game at a cost of the consumer - Just look at Final Fantasy XV & even recently with XVI... What infuriates me is that once I beat a game I am done, I can't go back to DLC upon release because I am not imersed in the experience as with the initial playthrough, so DLC never works for me - Unless I am replaying the game YEARS later like with FF7 Remake & the INTERmission DLC. Then there is Complete Editions released later that give you the base game with a code, a trend that really needs to stop!

I have to schedule my gaming throughout the year a lot more due to this also, like recently 2 big hitters with Like A Dragon (Yakuza): Infinite Wealth & FF7 Rebirth. Both came out wihtin a month of each other and are BIG games. So I decided to hold off on Like A Dragon 8 & Replay FF7 Remake in prep for Rebirth - I know this will take me up until Mid-April/May. Then before LAD8, I still have the spin-off Like A Dragon title to play before diving into LAD8, so it's looking about May until I actually get around to playing LAD8, so I have put off buying it until then - Which I am hoping for a decent reduction.

I have also been looking into CEX, a UK Trade-In Store. I have a decent amount of money in In-Store Credit but the problem is they charge ridiculous prices for their Newer titles - LAD8 is £50 in Used Condition, where I have seen online deal placing LAD8 for £36! Which is really good! But I want to make use of my In-Store credit for newer games but other online retailers keep selling the game New for a considerable discount in comparision. I mostly end up buying Retro Games from them as their prices seem to be much better.

In short, there is a lot of frustration as a consumer for the industry. I want to support games I love but I can't help but feel ripped off - especially within a Day One Purchase. I don't want an all digital future but I don't believe a decent enough effort is put into making the Physical game market accessible or even practical for collectors who are buying into releases for the prospect of game preservation - years down the line, your Day One Copies won't contain the needed updates and when servers go down you'll be left with an incomplete game.

How is digital though for new sony games. ain't that just full price anyway. From what I've seen it's a bit more pricy digital than standard physical releases at lower priced retailers. which are 5 - 10 to sometimes 15$ less than MSRP at release. free shipping aswell in most cases

And that is while ignoring the occasional collectible pre order bonus for early birds which in some cases sell for close to what you paid for the base game.

I guess I'm the person who sees this from a different point of view. Games were $60-70 when the Snes/genesis was on the shelves. The fact that they aren't already over $100 each is baffling.

They are well above that amount if you include dlc and micro's

So, there’s a rumor out there that Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost up to $150. It has cost something to the tune of $2 BILLION (with a B) to make. It’ll be a banger of a game.

PS5 games have gone up to $70. That makes sense. Games have been $60 for 100 years.  It was time for a price increase. I just don’t know high folks will go for Day 1 releases.

What do you think?  How high can prices get before you bail?

if inflation gets that bad 150 ain't worth that much. currently way to high but years into the future 150 might just be worth the same as 70$ today.

Still I highly doubt the game is going to be more than 70$. will it have micro's or DLC to increase the costs up to 10 times, sure but base game won't be more than 70$

I kinda doubt it's going to be set within just the city though.

The city is going to be the main focus or just the hubworld sure, but I highly doubt it's going to be just that.

Unless they mispoke, they very specifically said on at least twitter, "...a new adventure set entirely within Lumiose City...".  It's possible they could have some stuff just outside the city, but doing such a specific area could be very samey unless there's something to mix it up.

gotto be a mistake unless it's going to be some small game like detective pikachu

Zero gameplay footage though. It's for the best though who knows might be decent.

And another legends game beats anything maingame/ remake esk

I have no hate towards Matsuda, While I don't agree with some of his directions, the guy has been the face of the series. He seems like a good guy. Your rarely get see anything of the og creator satoshi tajiri (which left after gen 2 to get into a Ceo position) or the main artist ken sugimori. But Matsuda has always been there doing the dirty work. Having someone consistent is never a bad thing.

His skills in terms of Music are excellent, and gotto give him props for steering the ship, the guy made good money and could handle the tight release shedules. I won't really blame the guy for the lesser games in the current era cause in reality he worked his ass off and did what he could in the conditions that where given. So got mad respect for the guy.

Also some of the memes with him are legendary  ;D

General / Re: Your Own Opinion About Collecting Today
« on: February 27, 2024, 05:33:03 am »
I started collecting in late 2023, I focus on PS1, PS2 and PS3 because I have a PS2 and a PS3 and as you know PS3 can read PS1 games. I have a Nintendo 3ds and a Wii too but I don't collect games for them because nintendo games are so overpriced nowadays... Plus I prefer PlayStation. I usually find awesome PS3 and PS2 games for 1€ to 5€. PS1 games on the other hand are more expensive so I only buy those that I really really want. I collect because I like the feeling of buying games not knowing how they play, check the box at the store to see if I like them and go home and play them. If I don't like then I don't lose much, they are really low price and I can just resell them or give them to friends for free. It's more about the feeling of being a child again and less about spending loads of money on a glorified hunk of plastic. Man... I bought a copy of demon's souls black phantom edition (full pack) for 100€ on a local store and I was really happy with that... Then I see older games (gameboy, saturn, N64...) near that one, all loose and beat up for the same price of what I bought. All of this to say that I don't agree with the prices old games have nowadays. If all this sounds confusing sorry but my english is not the best...

You are a brave guy starting to collect today.

If you want a shot at cheaper prices your better off at sites like craigslist, mercari or the occasional ebay snipe. and if you are planning to go to fleamarkets or garage sales you gotto go a bit earlier than opening times at the very least (aka wake up at 5:00) to get a shot at the good stuff. Or get extremely lucky that people just put out stuff way later on during the day if your late. (I wouldn't recommend the latter, if you feel lucky try it but low odds)

see how it goes and if all hope is lost emulation exist. It's pretty competitive out there for the good deals.

I also reject the idea that Pokemon is a made for kids. I see just as many older Pokemon fans (20s, 30s, and 40s) as I do kids, maybe even more. I'm sure Nintendo is aware of this, yet they seem to think everyone playing Pokemon is a impaired 4 year old that can't handle even the bare minimum of what could be considered a challenge.

It's also the consumers fault though, cause believe it or not a majority is already pleased with what we currently have and are defending it. Adult fans

I mean, if people keep buying and defending it, it is what it is.

Also let us Not Shame the Nintendo name. Pokemon is not first party it is a seperate thing from the other actual nintendo ip's, Nintendo only owns 33% of it. Blame the 67% pokemon company and gamefreak. They are the actual folks that have control. Nintendo is mainly just enjoying profits and pokemon delivers. If it was an actual Nintendo IP it would have probably been on par with the big 2

previously in the good era's of pokemon, The games received a hell lot of help From Iwata, may he rest in Piece.

He was probably the main reason why the games where really fun in the first 5 gens. Cause in his opinion the games where not good enough value for money so we got a ton of extra's and quality. A more legendary achievement by him was adding the 2nd region in gen 2 pokemon in his free time. Originally it would have just been 1 single region. It didn't fit originally, but iwata being the genius that he was made it work. The guy was always pushing for content, quality and had the technical skill to optimize stuff at the time. That expertise is gone now and so is that incentive for quality. Iwata was that quality control which is gone nowadays. and it wasn't even needed at the time cause of it not being main Nintendo but it was just something that he wanted to do.

He stopped assisting starting in gen 6 and beyond, cause of how bad it got with wii u, him having his hands full and afterwards his Health started to degrade  :-\
