I've been waiting for this game ever since it was informally announced! This game was unusually announced in September 2023 for PC and unspecified consoles as a movie tie-in game for Mutant Mayhem along with an image showcasing the art style they're going for. It's unusual though because the publisher Outright Games does not typically announce games this far ahead of time, typically opting to announce a game a month or so prior to release.

Today, the title and a few screenshots were revealed via Game Informer. Possibly a first for an Outright Games title to get a formal, exclusive reveal by a gaming publication. The game is set after the movie. It is not due for release until the end of the year. The developer is aheartfulofgames who has worked on Heart&Slash as well as DreamWorks Spirit Lucky's Big Adventure and DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of The Nine Realms both for Outright Games. This is the first 3D Turtles games since 2016 when PlatinumGames released Mutants in Manhattan which was delisted just months after release but has a physical release that seems to be around $40 for a CIB used PS4 copy.

It's easy to write off this game from the publisher but in my opinion Outright Games tends to release decent games for what they are. It also seems like they are taking extra care with this TMNT game given it's unusual rollout. I'm looking forward to it no matter what because I'm obsessed with this era of the Turtles and have watched Mutant Mayhem several times.

They have a continuation of Mutant Mayhem coming sometime this summer via the animated series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which also takes place after the movie and the direct theatrical sequel film was just recently dated for October 9! ... of 2026. The series and game should be nice to make the wait feel less long at least.

Modern Video Games / Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase 2.21.2024 thoughts?
« on: February 19, 2024, 06:49:07 pm »
Despite being a Partner Showcase there's rumors of Nintendo's Wii franchise Endless Ocean making an appearance here.

Pocket Card Jockey's Apple Arcade remake from Game Freak is also rumored.

A demo for the already announced Contra: Operation Galuga is rumored.

Maybe the Xbox exclusive Pentiment shows up here.

Fun new game available for free this month ($30 otherwise) with PS Plus Essential. It's basically Splatoon meets Overwatch.

The core gameplay is about spraying the ground with foam so you can traverse faster by surfing on it. Unlike Splatoon the goal isn't to foam the most of the ground. The main mode is Smash the Star where teams race to get 7 "Chills" (instead of kills) and then the best player on each team will become the Star Player and chilling them ends the game. I guess this would be like Turf War if the focus was on kills.

There's another mode called Happy Bath Survival which to me is the most like the COD Warzone Gulag? 2 teams of 4 battle but 2 players on each time are on the outside of the arena foaming the ground to help the players inside and it's a best of three.

Rubber Duck Party is similar to Turf Control in Splatoon or Escort in Overwatch where you fight to control a rubber duck and get it to the other team's side before the time is up. Probably the most chaotic mode.

In a separate menu they have Foamstar Missions and Squad Missions which are basically PvE horde battles so like Salmon Run but without collecting eggs but featured in many other games as well like GTA Online Survival or Horde in Gears of War.

There's a small hubworld but also just a quick menu to navigate around. There's lots of stuff to collect and there's a practice spot in the hubworld that you can full decorate with furniture and whatnot.

The Overwatch part comes in because this is a hero shooter so all the characters have different abilities and different methods of shooting so instead of swapping weapons like in Splatoon you swap characters. It also has a battle pass (unfortunate for what is supposed to be a paid game, I know) that is similar to Overwatch because it contains an unlockable character where it's late in the free tier of the pass or an instant unlock with the premium pass.

Seasons only last about a month in this game so new content will be added on a monthly basis including new characters and maps.

It's easy to write off new games like this expecting them to soon die out and I'm not even saying that won't happen but I've been enjoying the game and hope it sticks around for a while. I believe new content was promised for at least a year but we'll see.

Modern Video Games / Xbox going third party
« on: February 04, 2024, 07:08:32 pm »
So rumors started popping up recently about H-Fi Rush coming to other consoles and now evidence has been found of ingame t-shirts clearly referencing Switch and (less clearly) PlayStation.

When it first was rumored it was alongside rumors of Sea of Thieves also going multiplat.

Today it's being reported that Starfield is coming to PS5 and that Indiana Jones will launch on PS5 shortly after it does on Xbox. Other prominent names in the world of Xbox leaks and rumors have stated to not be surprised if Halo and Hellblade II show up as well.

Seems like there will be a lot of developments on this throughout the year so I figured a thread to discuss it makes sense.

Over 40 minutes with 15+ games including extended looks at Sony published games Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.

Rumors suggest it will also feature other previously announced titles including Death Stranding 2, Concord, Silent Hill 2 remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Judas from the creator of BioShock.

Unannounced titles currently rumored are a Metro VR game, a Sonic Generations remaster? and Until Dawn remaster for PS5 and PC.

Devolver Digital also announced that they are announcing a new game this week so that could show up here.

Another rumored game popped up being previously announced Rusty Rabbit.

Starting now! Will the F-Zero rumors be accurate?

F-Zero 99 is pretty funny.

DIDDY KONG FINALLY IN MARIO KART 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paper Mario fans finally get what they've been begging for.

Seems like Nintendo learned to stop giving WarioWare demos, oh well.

Free to play game Palia looks interesting enough to try out.

Holy crap, the Detective Pikachu game for Switch that was just barely announced in 2019 is finally here.

HOLY CRAP??? Of all SNES games?? What so many thought couldn't happen due to rights issues.. the look of it is pretty unique too.

New Princess Peach game.

Dark Moon remaster.. eh.

Glow Pikmin look cool.

Pikmin (1) and Pikmin 2 coming to Switch, Pikmin 4 getting a demo next week.

Penny's Big Breakaway looks kinda good.

Mario Kart bathroom track! Petey Piranha and Wiggler return and Kamek. If Diddy Kong is somehow not in Wave 6 I swear...

A new WarioWare!? It looks way better than the last one!

Yep there's a new 2D Mario and with a new art style. Looks fine enough.

Quite an impressive showing from Nintendo when many started to think they wouldn't even have a Nintendo Direct this summer!!

Still no US release of the Brain Age game for Switch by the way.

Classic Video Games / Croc is coming back apparently.

https://www.timeextension.com/news/2023/06/croc-hd-is-in-development-says-argonaut-founder-jez-san

In the comment section the owner of the IP clarifies he bought the rights to all of Argonaut Software's IP in 2004. So maybe Buck Bumble and I-Ninja could also return someday.

Crash, Spyro, Bubsy, Voodoo Vince, Raz, Kao, Glover, Klonoa, Zool, James Pond, Conker sort of, Earthworm Jim maybe and now Croc.

I'm still waiting on Gex and Tak to return.

Everybody 1-2-Switch

It's $30 instead of $50 this time.

They also revealed purple, pink, green and yellow pastel Joy-Con that look pretty nice.

That makes two launch year (launch day actually) games getting sequels in 2023, will Super Mario Odyssey 2 also release this year??

Modern Video Games / Funko Fusion
« on: April 26, 2023, 04:13:37 pm »
This game was just revealed with a teaser trailer and I think it looks pretty good! It's being developed by a new studio co-founded by the founder of TT Games/Traveller's Tales Jon Burton. They are best known for the LEGO games but also Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue and Crash Twinsanity.

The game will be using Universal IP such as Back to the Future, Child's Play (2 is mentioned specifically), The Thing, Masters of the Universe (He-Man), Jurassic Park World and more.

I do not care for Funko at all but this trailer has me interested in it for the gameplay. It's set for release next year on PC and consoles.

Redfall is launching on both Series S and the world's most powerful console Series X at just 30fps.

Redfall is a first person shooter. Call of Duty standardized 60fps for the FPS genre on consoles during the Xbox 360 era.

This is only Xbox's second AAA exclusive (Series X|S & PC) released this gen with the other being Microsoft Flight Simulator. (Update: I just learned Microsoft Flight Simulator also launched at 30fps on Series X and did not get a patch adding higher framerate options. Wow!)

Quote
60fps will be the standard output, but the architecture allows us to support up to 120fps.
5:50 AM · May 7, 2020 - Aaron Greenberg VP, Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft.

Below standard.

Higher framerates are one of the few selling points this current generation with Xbox frequently proclaiming 120fps games on Series X.

Many people are calling this out for being unacceptable and for the game to just be delayed until the 60fps patch is ready.

Not entirely related but just imagine Xbox currently if they didn't buy Bethesda. Bethesda this gen has Deathloop, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Redfall and then Starfield later this year. Xbox has Halo Infinite and then Forza sometime this year.. so yet another generation where Xbox just delivers Halo, Forza, Gears over and over? Sure they announced a bunch of games but where are they? The Hellblade sequel had a trailer in 2021 and isn't even confirmed for this year.

The developer is not announced. The Last Ronin is a return to the original mature style of TMNT from the original creators.

Not much to say about the PS VR2 games but Green Hell VR looked quite bad.

Tchia has had more promotion from Sony than a lot of their own IP. Launches at no additional cost in the higher PS Plus tiers.

March PS Plus Essential lineup: Battlefield 2042? Pathetic. (I'll probably end up installing.) Code Vein is interesting I guess. Minecraft Dungeons I don't care.

Humanity finally resurfacing with a demo is awesome.

Wayfinder seems worth a try for free.

Resident Evil 4 demo.

I've been interested in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and still am.

Pretty good Nintendo Direct for everyone I think!

What stood out for me:
Pikmin 4 looks like Pikmin with Poochy added. I was expecting a new twist on the franchise.

Samba de Amigo is cool.

Nintendo promoting another game that seems like a ripoff of their own IP this time being Style Savvy, previously done with Nintendogs (Little Friends Dogs & Cats) and Wii Fit (Fitness Boxing).

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective multi-platform release.

Deca Police looks cool and apparently Level-5 is back to releasing games everywhere after I'm pretty sure they said they weren't going to release outside of Japan. Sadly no Yo-kai Watch 4.

Splatoon 3 continues ripping off their fanbase with paid DLC just to visit the hub from the first game. That's it. Nothing special is happening there you just get to visit it.

We ❤ Katamari!!! My favorite announcement of the show (even though it leaked a while ago) and it's multi-platform day one woooooo!!!!

Omega Strikers free to play game is like Mario Strikers sort of.

Kirby demo out today.

Game Boy, GBC and GBA games coming to Switch Online with decent lineups. No Pokémon though.

Metroid Prime finally coming to Switch and not as a trilogy because Nintendo knows people will just buy them individually at full price.

Mario Kart DLC continues to impress with an awesome new Yoshi's Island track and a NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER BIRDO?! I really hope this means we finally get Diddy Kong in the future!

Tears of the Kingdom does not interest me at all. Looks like an expansion.

Overall though the Direct was good with a nice variety of stuff.

I'm a big fan of Garden Warfare, Garden Warfare 2 and Battle for Neighborville. It was obvious at the time between the release of GW2 and BfN something was going on but never knew what until now. Learning what it was and the circumstances surrounding I'm now quite upset this never released.

I guess technically it wasn't cancelled since it wasn't actually greenlit but still.
