I'm a big fan of Garden Warfare, Garden Warfare 2 and Battle for Neighborville. It was obvious at the time between the release of GW2 and BfN something was going on but never knew what until now. Learning what it was and the circumstances surrounding I'm now quite upset this never released.

I guess technically it wasn't cancelled since it wasn't actually greenlit but still.

I'm not really sure what to expect except for Stranger of Paradise.

Modern Video Games / Wii U & Nintendo 3DS eShop Discontinuation
« on: February 15, 2022, 10:22:57 pm »
Quote
As of late March 2023, it will no longer be possible to make purchases in Nintendo eShop for the Wii U system and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will also no longer be possible to download free content, including game demos. Furthermore, as this date draws closer, related services will cease to function:

As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
As of August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until late March 2023.
Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until late March 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

No changes are planned for Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

The changes to Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems will simultaneously take effect in software on these platforms where it is possible to make purchases, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop and Nintendo Badge Arcade.

Even after late March 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

We thank you for supporting Nintendo eShop on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. While we hope that you will continue to enjoy using these systems, we have taken this opportunity to prepare a website where you can look back on your time with them via various play statistics. Please visit https://my-nintendo-3ds-wiiu-memories.nintendo.com/.

Q&A
Why is this happening?
This is part of the natural lifecycle for any product line as it becomes less used by consumers over time.

Why are you announcing this now?
We are providing this notice more than a year in advance of the end of purchases so users will have plenty of time to prepare.

Are any other services or functions of Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems going to be discontinued, such as online play?
There are no plans to make any further changes at this time.

How long will it still be possible to redownload previously purchased content in Nintendo eShop for Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems? How long will those systems still support online play?
For the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

There are still Nintendo eShop Cards at retailers that show the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS logos. What will happen to them?
These cards will continue to be at retail while supplies last.
All Nintendo eShop Cards can be used to add funds to a Nintendo Account balance for use on the Nintendo Switch
This can be done via Nintendo eShop on the system itself.
If someone visits Nintendo eShop and wants to download something on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family systems after late March 2023, what will they able to do?
On both platforms, users will still be able to:
Redownload content they own
Download existing software updates
On both platforms, users will not be able to:
Purchase any content
On Nintendo 3DS, this includes paid content, plays and passes in software such as StreetPass Mii Plaza, Theme Shop, Nintendo Badge Arcade and Pokémon Bank.
On Wii U, this includes passes in software such as Wii Sports Club.
Download demos
Download free-to-start software
Redeem a download code
Add funds to their Nintendo eShop balance
On Nintendo 3DS family systems, users will still be able to:
Download a small number of free themes from Theme Shop

PlayStation VR2 | PS VR2 (no space between VR and 2) is the official name of the "next generation virtual reality system for the PS5 console"!

The controller that was revealed last year is called the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.

Official announcement with specs here: https://blog.playstation.com/2022/01/04/playstation-vr2-and-playstation-vr2-sense-controller-the-next-generation-of-vr-gaming-on-ps5/

The first game, Horizon Call of the Mountain, was just announced with a very short teaser trailer: https://youtu.be/yPNn-jwAC9c

https://blog.playstation.com/2022/01/04/horizon-call-of-the-mountain-revealed-for-playstation-vr2/v

It is being developed by Horizon's developer Guerrilla and Sony's recent acquisition Firesprite which previously developed The Persistence.

No word yet if it will support all the previous PS VR games but with PS4 backwards compatibility being a thing chances are high! I have a bunch of VR games I'd like to play but I never bought the original version so being able to play them all on PS VR2 would be nice.

Meta Quest 2 (Oculus name is being phased out) has gotten pretty popular as of late and rumors suggest PS VR2 will have two million units available later this year.. are you interested?

*This offer is only valid for Nintendo accounts assigned to the Americas region.

https://nogravitygames.com/holiday-giveaway/

I suggest reading this: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/11/no-gravity-games-is-giving-away-19-switch-titles-for-free-north-america

This is the newsletter link to sign up to get your first free game Pirates: All Aboard!: https://mailchi.mp/841f564080b9/nggnewslettergiveaway

You have to sign up, confirm the first e-mail, and then wait about 10 minutes for a third e-mail with a code to redeem the game.

You have to get every free game in order to get them all. If you miss one you miss the rest. You don't need to keep each one installed just make sure you "purchase" each one for free.

This has happened before with QubicGames: https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,10510.0.html

They seem somewhat related.. at least two games they have listed as games they have published were given away via QubicGames and the first No Gravity Games free game has the QubicGames logo on the eShop trailer but I don't know?!

Modern Video Games / State of Play | October 27, 2021 thoughts?
« on: October 27, 2021, 06:29:30 pm »
A new State of Play focused on third-party releases premiered today. What are your thoughts?

A new Let It Die game was revealed. The gameplay looks better than the first and I'd like to see more of it.

Bugsnax, which was free with PS Plus, is now getting free DLC!

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach had a fun new trailer and finally a release date. Definitely looks like the best game in the franchise!

KartRider: Drift is now coming to PS4. A free (to play) kart racer.

King of Fighters XV showed off a cool subway stage.

Little Devil Inside looked really good!

A few more games were shown that I'm not interested but overall it was a better show than I was expecting.

Pretty good in my opinion!

Kirby is finally in 3D in a great looking game called Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Definitely would like to get that game.

Splatoon 3 seems to be expanding the campaign and they have a crab tank thing in multiplayer.

Brewster is finally coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons and an Animal Crossing Direct is happening next month so hopefully a lot more is coming too.

Nintendo Switch Online is adding Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games at an added cost they chose not to reveal. Hopefully not double the current price.

Chris Pratt is now Mario.

Chocobo GP looks like it was made by the Mario Kart developers and is Switch exclusive so maybe?

Those were the highlights for me! Definitely a good Direct all around though.

Modern Video Games / PlayStation Showcase | September 9 2021

You’ve been awfully patient, and we thank you for that. And now we’re looking forward to showing you what we’ve been working on.

Tune in next Thursday, September 9 at 1:00pm Pacific Time / 9:00pm BST / 10:00pm CEST for a look into the future of PS5. The Showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes and include updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond. And stick around after the presentation to get more updates from some of the studio teams featured in the Showcase.

One thing to note: PlayStation’s next generation of VR won’t make an appearance this time. But there will still be plenty of great PS5 games from developers large and small. We hope you can join us!

You can watch live on YouTube and Twitch. See you next Thursday!
I wasn't really expecting this. This isn't even a State of Play but the second PlayStation Showcase which I guess is a grander version.

The first one had a lot of big announcements so I guess we are in store for something good!

28
Kind of random since the game released back in 2018 and it doesn't even seem related to the upcoming Far Cry 6 but whatever.

I've never played a Far Cry game myself. I think Far Cry 4 had a trial but I missed out on it.

Quote
During the free weekend, you can play the full game solo or with a friend in co-op mode. And if you don’t already own it, you can pre-load Far Cry 5 right now. The free weekend starts August 5 at 12:01 AM PT on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, 6 AM PT on PC via the Ubisoft Store, and 10 AM PT on Stadia and PC via Epic Games Store.

According to HowLongToBeat.com the main story is 18 hours.

I'll be playing it. Marvel's Avengers recently had a free trial and I actually liked it much more than the beta.

Modern Video Games / Splitgate & Tom Clancy's XDefiant
« on: July 20, 2021, 09:07:46 am »
Two upcoming free games! I think both are quite promising.

Splitgate is currently in open beta and it's already one of the best free games I've played on PS4. It's quite similar to Halo but it adds Portal portals to the game for an interesting twist. I'm surprised how fun and addicting this game is and it's from a small studio but is launching with more content than some AAA games do! My referral code is 8GBYWJ if you decide to check out the game.

Tom Clancy's XDefiant was announced yesterday and it was an extremely mixed reaction. Many just want a new Splinter Cell and others feel this game isn't serious enough and is insulting to the Tom Clancy name. I understand both reactions but the game itself looks quite fun and a lot better than what they've been doing with Ghost Recon and The Division lately and is now my most anticipated Ubisoft release. PC players can start playing August 5 with other platforms sometime after.

Thoughts on these games?

30
A bunch of small events happened yesterday, today and tomorrow too! Might as well talk about them?

Dragon Quest 12 was announced with a logo shown and it was said it will be "for adults."

An Octopath looking remake of the third game was revealed as well that looks quite nice!

Sonic event was ruined by leaks.. sort of. Colors and 3 returning were already leaked. They announced an all new game without much to show for it.

From the Sonic event I am most interested in the Olympics game. Hopefully a demo will pop up.

Supermassive Games (best known for Until Dawn) had a roughly 20 minute presentation to show off their new entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology. Seems like a weird direction involving the Iraq War.

I haven't played Dying Light but with the multiple re-releases and years of post launch support it must be pretty popular!

Dying Light 2 seems to be a worthy successor and with the nearly 7 year gap between games I'm sure fans are ready for something all new.

Horizon for some reason has a multiple hour long countdown to their gameplay reveal. It hasn't happened yet but I'm sure it'll look nice!

Genshin and Far Cry 6 haven't happened yet.

What do you think of these announcements? Do any of them interest you?
