Modern Video Games / Pokémon Presents 2.26.2021 thoughts?
« on: February 26, 2021, 11:54:30 am »
I'm somewhat interested in the four major games shown. I thought I was done with Pokémon after seeing SwSh but maybe not?

The main problem I have with these games are their prices or what I expect their prices to be.

New Pokémon Snap is something I would like to play but I do not see where the $60 value is reflected. It's pretty much like the original game without much of a difference and not the best looking graphics. The original game is valued at about $10 in Nintendo's eyes so I don't see what makes this one $50 better...

Diamond and Pearl remakes I'm happy about since they aren't following the SwSh games but actually are in the style of the DS originals! The problem though is that it's not just a remake of Platinum and that the original games still look better. I don't hate how the remake looks, mainly just the characters in the world look ugly, but the originals just looks better overall to me. The price has not yet been revealed but I highly doubt it will be a reasonable $40 and will likely be $60 because why not right? I never got to play the originals and buying a legitimate copy nowadays is quite tricky so I may pick this up on a sale to finally experience Gen IV.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was the last announcement. It seems to be the wild area from SwSh with better graphics and not much else going on? That isn't out until 2022 so maybe it will have more to it but right now just seems a bit empty.

Modern Video Games / State of Play | February 25, 2021 thoughts?

The first major State of Play since August 2020 aired today. What did you think of it?

I really enjoyed the new look at Returnal which I was already excited for. Definitely the best look at the game yet.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits had a very impressive showing.

Oddworld: Soulstorm will be free for PlayStation Plus subscribers in April!

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach easily looks like the best game of the franchise.

Knockout City from the recent Nintendo Direct now has a cross-play beta which includes all current consoles as well as PC. https://www.ea.com/games/knockout-city/cross-play-beta

Sifu from the developers of Absolver was the only new game revealed. Not something I'm interested in but looked fine.

Not interested in Deathloop or Solar Ash.

Crash 4 and Final Fantasy VII Remake are both getting PS5 upgrades and FF is getting new DLC.

That's about it! They said 10 games and they weren't lying! The free PlayStation Plus games for March are still MIA!

The first major Nintendo Direct since September 2019 aired today. What did you think of it?

My favorite reveal was Splatoon 3. I wasn't expecting that at all and I look forward to playing that when it releases in 2022.

I was also happy to see Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville announced for Nintendo Switch. A great game I play frequently on PS4 can now be enjoyed by even more people. Unfortunately, while new features such as motion controls are being added they are not adding cross-play functionality to a game that could definitely use it.

On the negative side I found the new Mario Golf entry to be quite boring and lacking in Mario Golf charm.

I also am not fond of yet another $60 port. This time Skyward Sword. No new content but it is now playable without motion controls. The game is just $20 on the Wii U eShop but for Switch you need to pay an extra $40.. thanks Nintendo!

Whoops! I forgot about Stubbs! Looking forward to picking that up on PS4 at some point!

I was looking at my digital 3DS collection and I noticed about half of what I have listed is pre-installed software. This is software that comes pre-installed on every 3DS and cannot be deleted. Does it make sense to keep listings for these on the site?

Examples:
AR Games https://vgcollect.com/item/22986
Face Raiders https://vgcollect.com/item/20804
Mii Maker https://vgcollect.com/item/74781
Nintendo Video https://vgcollect.com/item/44101
StreetPass Mii Plaza https://vgcollect.com/item/22987

I don't think it's pre-installed but Netflix also has a listing. Only digital version of Netflix currently on the site. https://vgcollect.com/item/49744

Exclusions?
Find Mii - This is a game within StreetPass. Not sure if that should just be considered DLC for StreetPass but they also sold a few other games within StreetPass that weren't included for free. https://vgcollect.com/item/82136

Swapnote - I believe this was discontinued so still having it is kinda like having PT on a PS4. https://vgcollect.com/item/38548

Oh and here's another listing for pre-installed software but for PS4. The Playroom is pre-installed on all PS4 systems. https://vgcollect.com/item/86158

So Battle for Neighborville leaked a few months back and today it was finally officially announced.. and released?!

If you're familiar with the Garden Warfare series this is basically the third installment but a slight reboot of it.

https://youtu.be/e_JSp0F6PX8

This is digital only for now. Six weeks of being able to play the game early before it is released physically for an extra $10 at $40.

If you buy this $30 Founder's Edition you will receive the full $40 standard edition at no additional cost.

The reason they are launching it six weeks early is because they will be rolling all the modes out week by week so they do not have any issues at the actual launch date.

Here's the website where you can read all about it: https://www.ea.com/games/plants-vs-zombies/plants-vs-zombies-battle-for-neighborville

Google+ is dead now and clicking on the icon in the Follow Us box now leads to a 404 page.

The Follow Us box appears on the right side of the screen on the main site underneath the Latest Threads and Latest Items boxes for those that don't know.

So, there's this unlicensed Nintendo Switch controller all over the internet. It's quite good for what it is, I paid less than $20 for one in new condition and it works like a charm! Wireless, rumble, everything but amiibo support is in this controller.

It's basically an Xbox One controller with the same analog sticks and triggers. This controller has been covered by multiple popular YouTube channels often referring to it as an EEEKit controller but I think EEEKit is just one seller out of hundreds of it and not the ones that actually make it.

So what should this be called when submitting it to the database? Unlicensed Wireless Nintendo Switch controller? Nintendo Switch Xbox inspired controller? I don't know.

Here's where I bought mine from: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Wireless-Pro-Controller-Gamepad-Joypad-Remote-for-Nintendo-Switch-Console/122945580314

This is the image that seems to be most commonly used:

Pretty cool to see that they are still pushing Remote Play. I recently got a PlayStation Vita and it's a really cool feature.

If you don't know what it is, Remote Play is a feature where you can play PS4 games on other devices.

Video Game Deals, Sales and Promotions / Mario Kart DS $10

I just received this and wow.. the condition is astonishing. This looks brand new, I don't see anything that makes me think this was ever used or opened. Even looking at the case and cartridge in the light there's absolutely no marks.

It arrived in an oversized box via UPS with bags of air in the box, the slip and the game. The game itself is in a tight Y-fold wrapping but not like a regular new copy of a game, it's like a thicker plastic that comes off easily and there's also a sticker saying it was refurbished on the plastic.

The case and cover are completely flawless. No marks or anything whatsoever.

All the manuals are included even though it says they aren't. It had the Club Nintendo voucher, Nintendo DS info, DS WiFi info and the full color Mario Kart DS instruction booklet.

The cartridge was flawless too and it started up as a brand new game with no previous data on it.

I've repeated myself a few times but it is truly crazy to me that this is a refurbished product. If it weren't for the sticker and different type of plastic used to seal it I would have no doubt that it was a brand new copy.

I've never owned this game and from the screenshots online the graphics don't look great but playing on an original 3DS they actually look qutie nice and smooth.

Oh and one other thing, it shows a red case on the website but I received the original black case.

Needless to say I highly recommend this and see no reason why should spend $15 more for the new copy.
