Modern Video Games / List of Limited Run Games Available Elsewhere
« on: December 10, 2017, 05:07:38 pm »
Here’s the list of games released by LRG on physical media that were also available through other outlets. I’m putting in both where you can buy it (though it obviously could be sold out) and what region these games came in, as unfortunately some of them will not be in English.

And in case otherwise specified, this list will be for standard releases only. LRG did special editions of some of their games that were obviously not duplicated elsewhere. LRG games would also come with extras like manuals and other goodies, which may not be included in these outside releases.

If you guys come across these games being released in other areas, let me know and I’ll update the thread! Most games are still exclusive to LRG, but we can keep this list updated if new releases get made for these games.

Modern Video Games / Which PS4 Should I buy?
« on: December 10, 2017, 11:46:54 am »
Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out which PS4 would be the best for me to buy both in anticipation of Ace Combat 7 and the few games I already have for it that I'm itching to play. Personally, the graphics, 4K support, and price are not things that I really feel one way or another about. What I'm most concerned about is reliability. I'd like to only need to buy the console once.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Video Game Database Discussion / Pokémon e-reader Cards
« on: September 24, 2017, 07:15:50 pm »
Came across this listing while searching through the GBA page.

https://vgcollect.com/item/27136

So, I know we have a generic listing for Pokémon cards (https://vgcollect.com/item/102652 - which is fine with me: it's swag based on a video game) but here we have a collection of three specific cards.

These cards were e-reader compatible cards, and these particular three were in a "Sample Set" that was packaged and distributed as a way to promote the e-reader in North America.  These three cards were also released in a standard expansion "Expedition". These three cards when scanned would "create" a game for you to play, but the cards are randomly inserted into packs, you would have to combine the three cards together to create the game after the fact.

So, would it be conceivable/ok to have listings for all the E-reader combinations that create games in the DB? And if so, what category would they fall under?
We could probably have a whole discussion about how to represent Pokémon Cards in the DB, particularly these e-reader cards that can create games with the right combinations. I'm wondering how we should go about this in the database (which I'm sure is a can of worms to open) :P

Some sources (These links have to be copy/pasted into the browse bar because of the parenthesis)
: "Sample Set" - https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Sample_Set_(TCG)
: Expedition Set - https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Expedition_Base_Set_(TCG)
: Machop at Work - the e-reader game created by these three cards - https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Machop_At_Work

Sorry for the long topic, and thanks :)

EDIT: I can't confirm if these are from the distribution pack from the picture, but I can tell that Machoke on the far right is NOT from the Sample Set - it has the set Expedition expansion icon in the lower right.

Site Feedback / The characters "<>" caused issues with an item
« on: September 20, 2017, 10:52:26 am »
I recently submitted an edit to include the box art on one of the games I purchased. (https://vgcollect.com/item/130994) I included the < and > symbols so it accurately reflects how the box text is displayed, but it looks like putting those in screwed up the entry. Here's a picture of the back of the box on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASIA-ENGLISH-VERSION-PS4-YS-Origin-Brand-New-/263214575687?hash=item3d48cfb047:g:K70AAOSwfglZv299

Is this a bug or just a feature of the text that I don't know about (like [ br])

Thanks :)

Site Feedback / Phantom Edits on Developer and Publisher
« on: May 31, 2017, 01:39:56 pm »
I'm sure you guys are aware of this, but I thought I would bring it up just in case.

I'm getting some edits sent in for developer and publisher even though I didn't submit an edit for that section. Like how here it says I tried to change the developer/publisher to nothing. I think it's happened a couple times now.

Not sure what's going on there

EDIT: It seems to happen whenever I submit a platform edit. There have been three instances now where I change a platform for a game and it sends in a developer and publisher edit. It just happened with a GBA handheld.

Video Game Database Discussion / Duplicate and Error Publishers
« on: May 19, 2017, 07:24:02 pm »
So now that we can add publishers directly in item submission, I noticed that I can review the very long list of publishers that have been added onto the site over the years. With just a quick scan through them, it seems like there are quite a few dupes, errors or "similar entries".

Some examples that I found were:

"Activision" and "Activitision"

"Codemasters Software Company Limited", "Codemasters Software Company, Ltd" and "Codemasters Software Company Limited, The"

Four listings for "Capcom Co. Ltd" etc... There's a lot that needs to be fixed it seems.  :o

Whether the admins want to use a separate thread for identifying these and fixing them, or if we want to start adding these to the current duplicate and error listings thread, I thought it would be important to at least call attention to this so people know to keep an eye out for this stuff when creating entries.

Thanks :)

EDIT: The drop down menu is only viewable when creating a new item, not when editing it

Video Game Database Discussion / Wii U Pro Controller Help!
« on: April 02, 2017, 04:09:06 pm »
So I noticed that my box for my Wii U Pro controller has a different barcode than the one that's in the database. The one in the database is 45496891022, and mine is 045496891626. I looked at both UPCs online and they're both for legitimate controllers. I just don't know how to differentiate the two of them in the database, and with all the fakes out there I thought it might be best to ask some people here.

So, does anyone have the Wii U Pro controller and box with the barcode 045496891022 so we can compare the two? Maybe the item box number, sticker on the back of the controller or something else will be different so I can put the right data in the title.

Item currently in the database:
https://vgcollect.com/item/33969

UPC for the controller in the database: http://www.upcitemdb.com/upc/45496891022
UPC for the controller I have: http://www.upcitemdb.com/upc/45496891626

Marketplace / For Sale: Two Black GameCube Controllers
« on: March 08, 2017, 11:27:30 pm »
Hello friends,

I recently picked up a couple black GameCube controllers. Because I don't own a black GameCube, I'm not interested in keeping them. So I'm wondering if anyone on here would like them?

I just cleaned and tested both of them and they work just fine. There aren't any defects in the wires, sticks or buttons as far as I can tell. I have a photo below for reference. I was thinking of $28 shipped for the pair. But totally feel free to toss me an offer as well! I'm very open to negotiations. :)

Thanks for looking! I will probably put these up on eBay if they don't sell here, but that probably won't be for a month or so, so no worries!

And just to be totally transparent, this is the first time I've sold something on VGC, but I have done Secret Santa for the past two years, so you can ask dashv or tpugmire if you are unsure about how I ship stuff, etc.

Video Game Database Discussion / Development Hardware
« on: January 26, 2017, 01:38:34 pm »
I was wondering about adding some GameCube beta testing consoles to the hardware section. Some stuff like the NR Reader looks pretty much like a regular GameCube but with the obvious cosmetic and packaging differences.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-GameCube-NR-Reader-NTSC-BOXED-/112278391796?hash=item1a24504bf4:g:0VIAAOSw-0xYhQKp

I thought these would be ok so I added a couple for PAL and NTSC, but there are obviously much more extreme dev kits that look nothing like the actual consoles and more like computer hardware. I noticed we don't really have any guidelines about dev hardware or if they should be in the database at all. Was that something we wanted to discuss?

Hardware and Tech / Will the Wii U GameCube adaptor work with Wii games?
« on: January 26, 2017, 09:03:31 am »
So I'm trying to find the optimal way to have multiple controllers for both the Wii amd Wii U. I was wondering for those who have the Wii U GameCube adaptor, will that work for Wii games that support the GameCube controller? I'm having difficulty finding a definitive answer online, and don't want to buy unnecessary controllers if I can help it.

Thanks guys :)

Video Game Database Discussion / Colon use discussion
« on: December 31, 2016, 01:15:56 am »
I've noticed that a lot of the listings for "The Elder Scrolls Online" have been changed to "The Elder Scrolls: Online." It was when I made entries for the new gold editions of the game that I noticed this.

Is there any reason why that colon is there? It's not listed with a colon anywhere else that I can find, and is called "The Elder Scrolls Online"  both in the actual game on PC and on Zenimax's website, where they also refer to the Tamriel Unlimited console release specifically as "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited."

Some examples
