Hardware and Tech / Re: N64 - No video output
« on: November 06, 2015, 11:46:42 pm »
Fiddle with how you insert your games. My N64 is quite finicky- you can't push carts in firmly or you get black. You have to push down gently, enough that you feel the game push into the connector, but not so much that you touch the cart to the bottom of the cart slot. See if your unit's got a 'sweet spot' to it.

Missile Command (Atari 2600)

Good listing: http://vgcollect.com/item/18585
Duplicate listing: http://vgcollect.com/item/35642
It is not a dupe - cartridges have different covers.

Submitted edit to replace watermarked cart image on the Sears entry. ;)

It's the images that are throwing me- There's currently 3 listings for Missile Command on the 2600- the one for the Atari picture label (http://vgcollect.com/item/9197) and the one for the Sears text label (http://vgcollect.com/item/18585) are fine. But this third listing (my dupe, http://vgcollect.com/item/35642) has the info for the Sears label and a cart photo of the Atari picture label- the number on the cart photo doesn't match the listing. If that is an accurate, though, I guess just an edit to note 'sears picture label' is in order.

EDIT: A-ha! After poking around a bit, I found a scan of the sears telegames picture variant, so the cart image is indeed wrong! Submitting edits now!

Anyway- definite dupe on Golvellius:

I don't like Mexican(ish) food to begin with... as nice as that gold system looks, I'm sitting this one out. Maybe I'll go read what hoops you have to jump through to enter sans purchase...

Classic Video Games / Re: First video game you ever played?
« on: September 22, 2015, 12:15:21 am »
Super Mario Bros. on NES. My mom tells me she desperately  tried to talk my uncle out of buying me and my siblings a game system for christmas, but he wouldn't relent. I remember we couldn't beat even the first stages (I was 5, I think?). My mom, despite the protests, was playing with us and was the first one to get to world 1-3. After some panicked yelling about not knowing what was good and what was bad, she defeated the bowser. We were super stoked because mom beat the game! Of course, Toad informed us the princess was in another castle. Mom came home from work the next day with the shocking revelation that there were 8 worlds to get through.

While I didn't get heavy into gaming until we had the genesis we did always regret selling the NES. I've long since replaced it, although I don't know if I have all the same games... I know we had Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, but I haven't replaced that yet.

BRE software is having a 3-day sale on their 'like new' cases/manuals/inserts. Use the code 35off to get 35% off (not super creative on the codes.)Valid until Sept 21st. Link below for the included stuff.

Oh nice - I never even thought of checking for online stores for that stuff... I just usually resort to eBay and hope for the best.  I'm not that far from Fresno... I'm assuming they don't have a B&M shop, though.

They do have a B&M, on West Nees Ave. according to their site. No idea if they sell the cases and such in-store, though. Unfortunately I'm a couple states from Fresno so I can't excactly pop in. (Lived fairly close as a kid, though.)

For an extra option, BRE software out of Fresno, Ca. does actually sell cases and inserts on their site (over here: http://shop.bresoftware.com/.) The selection is usually junk, but it changes constantly, and I have gotten lucky a few times with them.

Anyway- things I want:

The Guardian Legend (NES) box and manual
Sega Classics 5-in-1/Ecco the Dolphin (Sega CD)- manuals. I want both, they have to be the CD-sized version.

Things I have:

Just one, but it's a good one- I have an extra manual for Suikoden 2 (ps1). Photos on request.

I just realized- posts with the duplicates taken care of have lil' Pac-men on the bottom. That's so cute!  ;D

Anyway, came across another one!

Unfortunately, space constraints and lack of local collectors resulted in my throwing out most of my old gaming magazines a couple years ago. Mid 90s to end-of-run sets of Next Gen and Tips & Tricks, plus most of my PSMs. I opted to keep the early PSMs with the cool hand-drawn covers and Game Players (that was a special one for me, long story.) And the Dreamcast official one, because the run was short so it doesn't take much space.

My last purging uncovered my anime magazine stash- nigh complete sets of Newtype USA and Shojo Beat. Unless one of the otaku at work steps up, they will likely suffer the same fate.  :(

So, very new around here & hope I'm doing this right- found this while adding in my collection:

Final Fantasy Origins
http://vgcollect.com/item/6574 <- Good listing
http://vgcollect.com/item/89309 <-Duplicate listing

Also these:

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution
http://vgcollect.com/item/47434 <- Listing 1
http://vgcollect.com/item/1596 <- Listing 2

I'm not sure if this is a duplicate or if the first one just has bad photos... I seem to recall Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution was only available as a Greatest Hits version.
