Modern Video Games / *THE* next platform/games
« on: May 28, 2014, 01:00:01 pm »
So, out of the *"current"* platforms...which one do you think is going to be the next biggest thing (as in hardest to find, most valuable hardware & software, etc)?

* "current", in this discussion can be any platforms that are still having *EXCLUSIVE* games released/announced for it. *.

I'm going to cast my/the 1st vote with the Vita (more specifically & particularly the OLED models) -but- the Vita all the same.

Some of my reasons being their quality, lower sales figures = less on the market, + lately, at least...it seems like it's been getting A Lot of the Japanese/niche titles & RPG's (which, are often inherently (in later years) the most valuable + hardest to find genres); what do the rest of you think?

General / "Rare" games going PSN/Digital Discussion:
« on: May 10, 2014, 04:21:52 pm »
Since the PS3's launch...I've seen a good number of games (that were, at one time, considered either *Really* Rare (like Suikoden II & Panzer Dragoon Saga) and/or *Pseudo* Rare - meaning that they weren't really scarce or hard-to-find at all -but- they were just priced as though they were (like FF VII); I guess because...people were willing to spend inflated amounts of money for a game with...what; around 6-7 million copies sold and/or because it had a little spelling mistake/"Misprint" on the back of it!?  :o

Well, FF VII released digitally quite awhile ago -and- according to the latest unconfirmed tidbit that I've heard...Suikoden 2 may also soon be getting a PSN release.

I'm personally of the opinion that a game like Suikoden 2 (*Especially* in the case of new & sealed copy) will probably still command & be listed at & sell for pretty much the prices that it currently is.

My reasoning/logic behind this is that Collectors are going to collect and to people like them (us) - just having the ability to play a game /=/ owning and having that baby sitting on your shelf to be picked up & (re)played whenever you want.  Also, I'm thinking that no "casual" gamers were the target/crowd that was looking at & paying hundreds of dollars for a single game -and- lastly, because if someone wanted to play it badly enough (just for the sake of playing it), I'm sure that they could have availed themselves of far cheaper...um..."alternative" ways to play it.

What are the rest of your thoughts & ideas about this?

General / Let's talk about...

...music in video games  ;D

How important is it to your enjoyment of a game -and- let's go with your top 3 "sounds"/(instruments) in an OST.

For me:

# 1 Violin (strings),

# 2 Piano (keys), and

# 3 Flute (woodwinds)

Just missing my top 3 list would be (acoustic) guitar.

However...ANY one (or any combination of) my top 3 can go a long ways toward setting my mood, the tone of the game, & my immersion in it.

Just entered/submitted Deception IV: Blood Ties for the PS3.

The picture showing up is correct (the PS3 version) -but-

when you click on its link to Amazon...it links you to the Vita version & price  :o

General / Speaking of rare & hard to find games...
« on: March 16, 2014, 11:33:40 am »
...Gave me the idea for this topic:

What is (are) the rarest & most expensive game(s) for each system (platform)?!

"Platform" can = Any & all consoles, computers, handhelds, etc.

Basically, if there's enough games for ____ to have some that stands out as the rarest & most valuable games for the platform...it's fair game   ;D

ALSO - instead of just listing the name of a game & what platform it's on...let's also try to (if we know) say/explain some things about the games; really, you can post whatever you want to about it -but- I was thinking that some *specific* things might be more useful, helpful, and educational to the rest of us gamers & collectors here.

As has been covered & discussed in other topics - most of us that have been around here for a minute & that are at least somewhat active on the forums & involved with the community here, already have a good idea of who has/knows (*"Specializes"*) in different games & systems.

The consoles/platforms that are my favorites and the ones that I focus the most on collecting games for, well, I like to think that I know a good amount about them.

However...none of us (at least *I* don't) know everything about everything.

Point is, that I could be standing there - holding a game in my hand (for certain platforms) that's worth thousands of dollars -and- is priced @ 99 cents...that I put back down & walk out of the store w/o buying it  :o

So...in the spirit of making this a more interesting & helpful thread - instead of just the name + system (like I said earlier, if you happen to know) any stories, trivia, and/or *WHY* and/or *HOW* did this game become so rare & valuable?

User Feedback / Argyle

So.

I was reading the "Games that you can never find" thread -and- noticed that Argyle had listed Suikoden 2 for the PS1.

Since I happened to have 2 copies of it - I contacted him to see if he was interested in working out some kind of a deal/trade.

Turns out that he was receptive to the idea -and- we spent the next few days (*friendly*) negotiating something that we were both happy with.

And...today I received his shipment   ;D

No complaints on my end - he accurately represented the condition of what I'd be getting, communication back & forth was pleasant & detailed, and all items were nicely & safely packed into a box.

Definitely *WOULD* (and most likely will:) deal with again & would recommend him to others.

Thanks Argyle!

General / *NOT* A Popularity Contest; but...

So, I was sick a couple of days last week and bored...like *Really* bored  :-\

And, (as a result of either the boredom, being feverish, and/or both:) - I had an idea for a topic that I thought might be fun and/or interesting  8)

It's pretty simple, really - kinda' like those Mad Libs/Fill-in-the-Blanks kind of things  ???

Onto the topic:

The community member here that I'd want to _____ with the most is; because:

Some quick -n- easy examples =

- If I wanted a riding partner...'twould be Soera that I'd be looking for since I already know that he's into riding, and

- If I was going to ever start playing/getting into the Castlevania series...well, I'd be looking for Scott to ask for advice on where to/not to start and for any tips; 'cause he's all about some Castlevania, etc, etc, etc...you all get the idea  ::)

SO...Have fun with it!

OR...DON'T!   ;)

Topic.

Wtf's the deal with companies (for decades now) marking swag/loot/Bonus LE/CE items as "Not for Resale"?   :-\

Are 'they' just trying to set the "rules" for their chain/retail stores & distributors and/or are they *seriously* trying to dictate/influence what I can & can not do with my own items after I've bought, paid for, and received them?  :-X

Is this actually enforce-able anywhere?

Always been curious about this (while happily & blatantly ignoring it:)

General / The Un-Played Ones...

So.

We often talk about our favorite & the best/classic games here -but-

What are the "Biggest" games and/or series that you've never played -and- why?

"Big" can = most popular, classic, favorite, biggest fan-bases, chart-topping, most often mentioned/talked about games, etc.

"Why" can = No interest, too expensive, too rare/hard to find, it's in my backlog, and...I'll get to it one of these days; honest guys, etc, etc...

General / Real-Life origins, ideas, & influences used in Video Games -
« on: November 13, 2013, 12:13:35 pm »
Well, I've been having glimpses of bits & pieces for an idea for this topic flash through my mind/subconscious here and there for awhile now.

Up until now - I've either forgotten about it -OR- I just needed more time to figure out how I wanted to explain it/put it together.

I was also just going to do this under the 'umbrella' of the "VGCollect Anonymous" topic/thread (*Also* started by someone incredibly cool & awesome; for those of you who might not have already known this:) -BUT- I decided not to because I think (that if there's enough interest, discussion, and contributions to this topic); that, it would be better off as it's own 'stand-a-lone' kind of topic.

The *POINT* of the topic is to mention, add, and/or talk about things that you've seen/heard in video games (any games of any genres -on any platforms- would be just fine), that are based-on/inspired by origins/events in reaL life.

One example (actually...*Shitloads* of examples:) could come from the Shin Megami Tensei series of games -because- there are so many demons, God(s), and mythologies that just about all of their monsters & demons (read *Fusions*) are obviously based on varying real life religions & mythologies.

So, let's try to add more specific examples (I'm *Much* smarter, in a well-rounded way) thanks to things in video games inspiring me to research & learn about the real life origins that they were based on...

I'll kick things off with a few, quick examples:

- In Shadow-Hearts: Covenant - the town that you begin the game in ("Domremy") is not only a real town -but- it's where Joan of Arc is from,

- Joan of Arc is known as (in French) "La Pucelle".  In English, this translates to "The Maiden"; hence, giving a bit more significance to (the title) of a game such as La Pucelle: Tactics,

- Also from Shadow-Hearts: Covenant; the sword power upgrades that Karin collects are bits & pieces of pages of a real life, Wagnerian opera ("The Ring" aka "Nieberlung"(sp?)), and, one more - just to through a Disgaea game (actually, (2) games) into my examples =

- One of Desco's (most powerful) special skills/magic attacks is called..."Yog Soggoth" -which- is from HP Lovecraft's (starting with Cthulu; iirc) mythology/cosmology of "The Great Old Ones / Gods".

I *LOVE* this kind of shit!

If you do too...jump right in  ;)

Site Feedback / Just wondering/thinking...
« on: October 19, 2013, 02:37:26 pm »
...About the whole thing with the style guide -and- how some people seem to have trouble knowing *exactly* how to enter titles, sub-titles, etc.

Obviously - this problem/misunderstanding has (I'm sure) created many dupes = more work for those here who have to deal with, correct, and fix such things.

So...what I was thinking, is this:

NOW - keep in mind that I don't know a thing about the logistics/possibility of doing this...if it's even possible and/or how much time, work, and effort it would take, and, lastly & most importantly; if it would be worth doing -

How about...instead of even using 'titles' (read: words/strings of words + proper punctuation)...we simply do away with using the words/titles.

In its place, I had 2 thoughts.

The 1st, and, I think, the better one would be to simply use the UPC -AKA- Bar codes in the place of the letters, words, and titles...and to use those #'s *instead* of letters for 'Searching'.

The other 2nd part/idea would be to, maybe, also use the product #; as a sort of cross reference.

Pros/cons?

Thoughts?

Site Feedback / "In Collections" (Attn: Matt, Scott, Fox, etc)
« on: October 11, 2013, 09:48:41 am »
I just noticed this yesterday - since it was the 1st time that I was entering multiple entries of the same item since "The CHANGE" - that, now...when I click-on the "in collections" tab...it's showing my name 3 times (and counting me as 3 (of the total) # of people who have it in their collections).  :o

A minor thing, to be sure -but- it wasn't like that before...or was it?

So, what's the origin/backstory of everyone's user-names...here or elsewhere?

Mine should *really* be pretty un-exciting & self-explanatory  ;)

The "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" Topic/Thread:

Just an idea for a simple thread about how each of us found our way/ended up here at VGCollect...

My answer's simple enough (and has been stated before) - I was lucky enough to see one of Jobocan's posts on a G*Faqs' Board (iirc, the "PS3" one) and click-on his link (in his sig) to here.

How about the rest of you all?
