Site Feedback / Question about "Browse" Section...
« on: May 24, 2013, 11:38:59 am »
Okay -

So, when I go to "Browse" -

then, go to "Swag+" -

I see "Printed Media"(Books, etc) as well as several other sub-categories...I *DON'T* see one for "Strategy Guides" and/or "Guides".

This being the 1st time that I've tried browsing directly for guides, this is the 1st time I've noticed it.

I thought it was weird, since in our collection break-down (on the left side of the screen), "Strategy Guides" *DOES* have its own sub-section under the "Swag" category.

Did you guys know/intend for it to be this way?

General / "T" and "A" thread/discussion...
« on: April 27, 2013, 09:11:13 am »
So.

As guys -and- as gamers - some of us love us a little "T" n "A", some just tolerate it, some loathe it...and - I'd guess that many are simply indifferent to T and A.

What's that, you say?
 ::)

"Tits and ass"  :o

Wow...just wow...the directions that some minds go in (including my own:) by default; is often to the lowest, weakest, and the least mature direction :P

*ANYHOW*

ITT ===> "TnA" = *NOT* "tits 'n' ass", but...instead =

"Trophies and Achievments"

Let's talk here about anything & everything that's related (in any way) to the subject of the PS3's trophies and/or the 360's Achievements.

- Do ya' like/love or dislike/hate 'em...why?

- Do ya' ignore them altogether?

- Do ya' chase 'em down relentlessly?

- Are you one of the gamers  who buys/plays games...ONLY...after reading/studying their trophy lists?

- Are ya' the (not so) proud owner of a Hannah Montana platinum trophy?!

Personally, I kinda' go through phases/cycles concerning trophies.

It really depends on 3 things:

1).  My Mood,

2).  How much I like/dislike the game in question, and

3). (Sort of related to # 1) = How strong & active my 'Addictive' (yes, I've always been one with an "addictive personality -and- there's no shame in my game about it:) and my 'Obsessive'/"Completionistic" drives are at the time.

So, if you were to look at my PS3 trophy list (which, everyone here can feel free to do); you'd see the last 4 games that I've played (starting with Cross-Edge, 2nd is Last Rebellion, next was Atelier Rorona, and just last night I finished/platinumed Atelier Totori) are all "100%-ed"/"Platted", while all of the games under it (my list is arranged w/ the most recently played/updated games on top to the bottom one being the one that hasn't been touched in the longest amount of time) range from 0% up to, around, 80%.

This is just making it clear that I've recently been in a very 'completionistic" frame-of-mind w/ my gaming.

How about the rest of you?

Hardware and Tech / Question for you tech-savvy members -
« on: April 26, 2013, 09:04:17 am »
So, my 1st question is related to the possibility/impossibility of doing what the PSP does with a DSi-XL, 3DS-XL, and/or a GBC.

What I'm referring to is:  is there a way to go into the handhelds & connect/mod something so you can output your display to an HDTV?

My 2nd question is:  Can anything be done with/to a PSP 3000 that would allow me to use a ps3's controller (to control everything) while it's displaying on the HDTV?

I'm kinda' feeling bittersweet about all of the great rpg's coming out that are handheld exclusives -and- if I could somehow view & control them differently...I'd be a lot happier & more excited to play the games!

Thanks for any help/answers :)

"User/Member-Reviews"?!

I know that this site's 'mission' is the collection & access to accurate data -but- (as evidenced by our community), IMHO, we'd have a great & diverse group of people to post either "mini-reviews", "reviews", or just plain old "thoughts/after-thoughts/opinions" of the games they're playing.

I'm thinking that, (if you don't want anything *formal*; like that)...maybe something like a 'sister-thread' to the "What are you playing" thread - along the lines of "What did you think of what you just finished playing"? thread...

...or...even just some sort of summarization/thoughts post in the "VGAnonymous" topic?

Personally, I'd like the idea of having a 'section' of their own for these -no extra "awards" or anything for contributing/not contributing...just a place for anyone who wants to post something like this to do so.

Again (contrasted to like a "G*Faqs" where you get the same reviewers reviewing the same series, genres, and systems *Repeatedly*); I think that since we have such an awesomely diverse group of members playing varied games & genres...on systems new & old = the potential for a nice & interesting review section.

Also/lastly - we're still a small/close enough site & group where, I'd say, we all pretty much have a good idea of who likes/plays & has similar tastes to ourselves...it'd be easy to know what to read and by who...depending on the game/genre we might be interested in reading more about if we're on the fence about something...

...thoughts?

Site Feedback / New "Idea" / "Feature" for site...
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:49:30 am »
First off, no, this idea isn't *Entirely* original...

...I got the basic idea/"inspiration" for it from something I've seen at the PS3Trophies web-site.

What they do, is simply pick a "Member of the Month" (based on how many/how quickly they complete their games/"100%" / "Plat" them, how many guides/Faq's/walk-through's they write/contribute), etc.

Then, they have a 'standard' list of (iirc) 20 to 30 questions that the member answers/types out the answers to, and returns to them.  Obviously, they're almost all questions & Answers on Trophy-Hunting.

I was thinking that something similar here could be both an enjoyable and informative extra 'feature' to look forward to, each month.

I think that here, though...just about any (of the "regulars", at least) could 'qualify'.

Doesn't matter if they edit/submit a ton of shit, are active in welcoming new members, are helpful in guiding people & answering questions, contribute lively & actively to keeping an interesting forum/community going, etc, etc, etc ===> so, in theory, (eventually) just about all active members would get their 5 minutes :P

Not only that...but it would be a "Super-Improved" version to the "Intro" section...

More people would get to know more about other users than they otherwise would have = finding more commonalities & topics for discussion that may have gone over-looked, etc...and, as new people continue joining the site (not really *knowing* anyone at 1st = they could easily read some "back" 'interviews' to quickly learn about older/other members)

I think, that even for the members writing/answering these...it would be interesting to re-read them a year or 2 or 5 later to see where they were/how far they've come "collection-wise" since then, etc :)

Lastly, I was thinking, to make it a bit more random, friendly, and interesting...Have, say a single, *Stickied* thread w/ a list of potential users...with a "vote-by" date; deciding which user has the most interest in being heard from/getting to know better & more in depth, and/or "interviewed" each month.

This is just a bare bones idea...I'd love to hear any responses, ideas, criticisms, caveats, etc (Ex. Should there by any rules for a user to be eligible)?, etc...

THE VIDEO GAME MUSIC & SOUNDTRACK/OST THREAD -

So, I'm a *HUGE* fan & lover of video game music :P

After being around here for a minute -and- talking to & getting to know the rest of you here...I know that I'm *Far* from the only one :)

At any rate, while thinking about & typing-up this thread - I'm thinking it could work well as kind of a two-fold topic & discussion  8)

*THE 1ST PART* =

- *ANY* type(s) of funny, interesting, memorable, and/or unusual stories, thoughts, incidents, remarks, experiences, etc, etc, etc. concerning you & music in video games.

I'll start w/ an example:

- I never liked, listened to, cared about, or had even the *Slightest* bit of interest, knowledge, and/or appreciation for ANY Classical music (well...unless you'd count my love of Rhandy Rhoads' (R.I.P.) Classically-influenced guitar-playing, in which he was applying his classical training & doing an *Absolutely* Fan-fucking-tastic (IMHO) job of blending classical music w/ harder-rock 'n' roll/Heavy Metal melodies & riffs)...It would also be very safe & fair to say that I knew and cared much, much, much and more, less about anything at all to do with Opera.

- Then, I played Shadow Hearts: Covenant (full & fair disclosure...far and away one of my all-time favorite games...Ever:)

- The way that one of the main characters (Karin - a sword-wielding female) achieved her "power-ups", was by collecting different pieces of paper (each piece of paper had a bit of the musical score for something called "The Niebelung" (sp?) aka "The Ring" on it)...and the more she got of them = the stronger she got & the more of the piece that was discovered/revealed.

- Long story (a *little*) less lengthy = I *NOW* know that this wasn't just some randomly named & created thing for the sake of the game!

- Wagner's 'story' actually spear-headed quite nicely w/ my interest in Norse (and other) mythology...and...I now also love many, many, many and more different pieces & composers of classical music  :D

*THE 2ND PART* =

- Simply list some of the *BEST* places/sites that you've found for buying & ordering some video game music -in the USA or otherwise- from:

- Just that - these CD's can run outrageously expensive, and I've come across very few sites that have what I want for anything even close to fair prices...so...if you know of some places - share them w/ the rest of us  ;)

Talk about neat gifts given and/or received

and

Any interesting/funny Holiday stories/events :)

For my "gifts-received", the funniest/most notable thing would be that my g/f ended up treating me (read: re-imbursing me:) to ~25 assorted games, guides, and art books that I bought from & received from CranberryRiddles about a week ago...she took 'custody' of 'em all, wrapped each item individually, and..."made" me wait 'till today to open them all up :P

"Gifts-Given" is where it gets a bit more interesting & amusing...

Me & my little sister split my grandmother's (almost 90 years old) gift.

What we did was...start out w/ 50 $10 bills.

Then, starting w/ one "old-looking" $10 bill as the 'trunk' - w/ the other 49 (newer-looking) bills, I layed them out on a big piece of white cardboard...in the pattern of a BIG Christmas/evergreen tree (w/ assorted & cheesy witticisms about "money growing on trees", "tree(t) yourself to something nice", "not going out-on-a-limb/branching-out", etc)...she was in tears...*Priceless*; (she's the type that would Never ask for help financially...need it or not)!

AND

MY Winner For this year was:

I always buy a bunch of $1 - $5 scratch-off Lottery Tickets, and stick 1 or 2 in everyone's stocking...of course, nobody ever wins...anything  :'(

My niece is now ~1 1/2 years old.

I put a $5 and a $2 ticket in her stocking...

My brother-in-law scratches off the $5 one for her...

...$200.00 WINNER!

No way...he's reading it wrong - I check it, and it is indeed, a $200 winner!

While I'm verifying it, my little sister (who doesn't even understand how to read one/what is/is not a winner); is scratching off the $2 one...

..."Hey Kenny" (ME) - "Take a look at this for me & see if I won anything"...

I look at it...

No way...I'm missing something/reading it wrong...*Double-checks*

GET.

   THE.

      FUCK.

          OUT.

             OF.

               HERE...

$1,000.00 WINNER  :o

*College-Fund* Head-Started  ;)

While kinda' bittersweet (most I've ever won on a scratch-off = $100) :P

It was a pretty awesome day all around!

General / Brainstorming...
« on: December 21, 2012, 10:09:43 am »
Yeah.

So I've recently been reading about (again) & seeing the subject/controversy of "Used Games" a lot, lately.

It seems like these 'discussions' *ALWAYS* follow the same pattern of people making all kinds of (appropriate & not appropriate, at all) analogies, then comes the arguing/refuting/de-bunking of these analogies, toss in a ton of speculation about what devs/pubs/stores want, think, or don't want, lightly sprinkle-on a bit of name-calling & insulting, and garnish w/ the same 3-5 ideas/"solutions" being re-hashed.

I've yet to see anything close to any kind of real & viable *solution* to the subject, though...

I've had a couple of ideas running through my head that I thought that I'd put out here from those of you here (read: all of you:) that are more tech-savvy & business-savvy than I am.

My 1st idea is simply this:

I buy/start a store that will beat Gamestop's prices on buy-backs, agree/arrange for 10% of whatever I re-sell these used games for (if technologically possible), to be immediately deposited to the relevant people (those who see NO $ when games are sold used); and -when all is said & done for- I'd be looking to double my investment.

Ex.

I buy a game for $10,
I price/sell it at $22,
I double my $ by getting $20 & the game-makers just got $2 instead of nothing...this would, I think, add up to enough to maybe change the pubs' stances of "hating" the used game market.

Now,
I realize that one little store doing this somewhere wouldn't make much impact...but...if I were to attain some backing from devs/pubs to create a chain instead of just one store...

My 2nd idea is even simpler -

When a new game is sold, it comes w/ a "return-to-sender" envelope.

When you're done w/ the game, you can simply place it in here & send it back to those who originally sold it (w/ their promise to give you, say, $3 - $5 more than "Gamestop-rate)"...and then they could re-sell their own used games on-line...again, giving them an incentive to not hate the used game market...while handily cutting-out GS.

General / Legend of Legaia Art Question

Question aboutLegend of Legaia's...

...Cover-Art for the NA, PS1 release(s)?!

So, I've been semi-searching/interested in picking-up a copy of this game for awhile now.

A couple of days ago, I bought/received it as part of a somewhat sizeable purchase from CranberryRiddles.

I was adding my game to the site here -and- no problems.

What's confusing me, though, is that - looking on G*Faqs and Amazon...the cover art for the front of the game's case is *completely* different...W.T.F.?!

Btw - both Amazon & G*Faqs are showing the same art work as the other.

In their pics. of the game - the picture on the front-cover is simply some blue-haired dude showing-off/admiring his bicep.

*BUT* the cover of *MY* game (just like the image here on vgcollect) is of:

- A pink-haired girl on the right,

- A brown-haired guy on the left, and

- "Mr. Blue-Bicep" centered between the other 2 characters & in front of them...

*Interestingly* enough (may or may not be at all relevant) - the picture on Amazon (for the game's Strategy-Guide) is the exact same picture as my game & the one already in the vgcollect database...

Wtf am I missing here?

I'm not seeing any GH-versions and/or re-releases/alternate cover-art-versions of the game...and, apparently, both pics pertain to the USA/NA releases of the game...

Well, since this site's showing 50+ owners of this game - I figured that maybe someone here could answer this/explain this to me!

Thanks -

User Feedback / "CranberryRiddles"
« on: December 12, 2012, 02:13:34 pm »
So, for close to a year now, CranberryRiddles & I have been working on putting a deal together.

Everything arrived & was very nicely & professionally packed.

The *Way* that we did the deal was a bit unorthodox, in that, we'd known each other for quite awhile and, we apparently both felt pretty safe & confident in trusting each other...

He shipped everything out to me (w/ tracking #) and e-mailed me that it had been shipped,

I sent him a postal money order (the same day) for 1/2 of the agreed upon price,

a few days later, I received the box -and- everything was just as he'd described it to be, and

today - I sent him the 2nd money order paying-off the balance owed.

All in all, a very knowledgeabe, communicative, pleasant, and professional transaction all around.

I *would* recommend/do business w/ again!

Topic & pretty self-explanatory -

How/where did you hear/see/read about/find out about, etc this site?

For me, I'd never heard of it until seeing it in Jobocan's signature somewhere on G*Faqs (probably on an RPG or PS3 board).

After being here awhile & liking the site & the community here...I also added it to my G*Faq's sig.

What are your thoughts & ideas concerning our current genres?

Do you have any ideas for new genres that you'd like to see or that you're surprised that we haven't already seen?
