Hey Matt,

Looks good so far. You know what would look amazing... if we could display our games on a faux wooden shelf ( I believe we had this feature WAY back when).   That would be the bomb-diggity! ;)

oh and sorting by Letter of the alphabet would be great too  ;D

thanks for all the hard work brotha!

That was WAY back then. This new display unfortunately won't look as cool as that but it will allow us to start adding some other cool functions.

You can find a complete list on Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) website: http://www.classification.gov.au/guidelines/pages/pg.aspx
I'll run you through them, but don't bother adding CTC or X18+ as no games are released under them.

G
PG
M
MA 15+
R 18+

If you were to add them, I'd do it as so:
OFLC - G (Australia)
OFLC - PG (Australia)

etc.

Just added these. We'll be working through other category requests soon.

VGCollect for Android / Re: Android Developers?
« on: January 12, 2015, 02:03:13 pm »
Matt, I am a software developer who has been using the site and app for a while.  Finally got tired of waiting for updates and found the forum.

I would be happy to take a look at the code and try to update and fix things.

Hey - shoot me a message over at matt@vgcollect.com. If you've got Android experience I can send you an updated apk and give you access to the repo.

Site Feedback / Re: VGCollect Site Is Redirecting To Another Website
« on: January 12, 2015, 02:01:56 pm »
I always noticed that there was a permanent ad for homebrewing supplies on the site and I always wondered why. now I know.

haha. Yeah the site for my other business is setup on the same server and that site has the SSL. I've got a config issue somewhere which only allows one SSL on the server, and thus if you try https for vgcollect, you'll get the other site.

But yes, I do own Michigan Brew Supply. It's the reason I haven't been able to be as active as usual here. We opened up the retail shop back in June after running it online for about 12 months.

Could there be an option for a list view with no images, also?

Like
- list ( no images) ... And possibly no condition?
- list (images) with condition <- our current look
- images only

Otherwise I know folks have been asking for options in how many items can show per page and options for pages separated by alphabet/letters.

Excited to see the chances, Matt!

I look at this as the first step in adding the additional sorting options. Right now I really just want to lay the foundation.

Hey all,

I hope everyone had a great holiday season! As you may have noticed we have not been very active with updates over the past few months. Sometimes real life gets in the way but we are getting ready to move forward with a round of updates. In addition to a few bug fixes one thing we want to roll out is a new way to view your main collection. Here is a small preview:

You'll be able to toggle between "list" and the new "shelf" view. I'm looking for feedback on how you think this should be implemented. Here are my thoughts as of now:

1. The default view will still be the list view. If a user isn't logged in, they'll have the ability to toggle the view but that will only be for that session.
2. If you are logged in, you can toggle the view which will be stored as a preference on your account. Whatever you select will be how you see collections sitewide.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this implementation?

Thanks!
Matt

Alright sweet, so when are we getting Australian Classifications?

I can add those but I'm having trouble finding a complete list...

Your logins should both be the same. I'll look into your account and report back.

I personally have no interest in a collection manager for music/movies/bottlecaps/paperclips/etc.

As far as the swag, I think it does belong here. Its part of the magic that is gaming.

*sigh* and here I've been spending the last few months working on PaperClipCollect.com. :(

@campercarl

Poof! They are gone.

Any chance this could be a user-initiated service or if this ever happened to one of us we would just have to PM you matt?

There is always a chance! Not sure how high it'd be on the priority list right now but it's something I'll look into.

Hi everyone, my name is Adam. I've been gaming since the NES and owned just about every system up to the PS3. I would usually just sell my old system and games whenever I got something new. Lately I've been wanting to play some of the older games I used to have. Just bought a Genesis this week and hope to get a PS2 soon. Looking forward to using the site and meeting some cool people.

Welcome Adam!

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: The Duping Situation
« on: November 13, 2014, 12:27:14 pm »
Hey all - we are working a few long short term solutions. Those involve:

- some sort of edit/submission gate, which I think is going to be a forum post count. Even a single post would be sufficient. This way 1.) they'd establish a presence 2.) we'd be able to follow up with a link to the style guide and 3.) It'd allow us mods to shoot them a PM when they screw up.

- updates to the submission search. The main site search received some updates over the last few months, but the submission search hasn't. This is coming real soon.

- new staff. We have a few new staff members joining soon (as soon as I have time to set it up, they know who they are). :)

- chat. I'd love to get an IRC channel going. We've discussed this in the past but no one took the lead. If anyone is familiar with it, feel free to get that ball rolling.

All that being said, what we don't want to do is limit new users from contributing. That is one of the MAIN issues I was trying to solves when building VGC. Every other system had a long, drawn out approval process in place that felt so restrictive. We'll never get rid of dupes 100%, but these updates should drastically reduce them.
