Modern Video Games / Star Fox Zero/Thoughts?
« on: July 27, 2019, 12:37:32 pm »
So I've been reading about Star Fox Zero on the WiiU because I'm somewhat interested in it, and it's cheap to get. The takeaway seems to be that it's divisive to the extreme, the crux of it being the controls and how unweildy they are.

So, I'd like to hear about some personal opinions from the members here that have played the game. Did you enjoy it/do you like it in general? Are the controls such a huge sticking point like the Internet claims? What are the best/worst aspects of the game?

I may not go as far as 'love', but I really like the vibration feature. I always feel like something is missing when there is no rumble. I remember back in the day when Force Feedback joysticks came became a thing, I was quite interested, but I never had the money to get one. Plus, if I remember correctly, the Force Feedback joystick were mainly designed for flight sims and such which I didn't play.

Could "Retro Studios, Inc." (developer) be changed to just "Retro Studios"?

Also, please add "Cygames" (Developer)

Could "DrinkBox Studios Inc." (both developer and publisher) be changed to just "DrinkBox Studios"?

The problem with making those fields mandatory is that some games do not have an item number or a proper barcode (yes, it can happen, especially with older/obscure games) or someone wanting to add a game to his/her collection doesn't have the original box anymore (yes, even more shocking from a collector's point of view).

I personally would like to see "fully fleshed out" entries across the board, but hey, it is what it is. Do your best to fill out what's missing, as long as the information is accurate. This is very much needed for the EU categories.

Actually https://vgcollect.com/item/15225 has the wrong barcode. Two games can't have the same barcode. The barcode in your entry is correct for the Italian version, but you should edit the Name to match the Style Guide, i.e. "Dino Crisis [IT]".

I just noticed that the Destruction Derby 2 you added already exists in the database: https://vgcollect.com/item/142459. Same with Dino Crisis: https://vgcollect.com/item/15225

If you can't find an entry with the same details as your copy, submit a new item. Also, take a gander at the Style Guide.

Can you give an example?

A game with a customizable hero and and emphasis on completing quests and having a party does not really describe an RPG very well (at least the way people understand RPG video games these days).

More to point, I'd have to say that an RPG has a heavy emphasis on numerical stats, and the game mechanics revolve around these one way or another.

No, it is not, and no I will not.
This.

One if the biggest issues I have with current PC gaming is the fact that while you can buy a boxed game, it means nothing thanks to the "game" being just a Steam Key these days. Besides, you don't truly own digital games and you can't sell or loan them to a friend, something which I'm very much against.

Microsoft can market its discless Xbox all it wants, but I sure as hell won't even be giving it a glance. Same thing if Sony would ever come out with a similar PlayStation.

I personally don't have a problem with DLC, as it can expand a given game in interesting ways. I do have a problem with announcing DLC/Season Passes/what have you before the game has launched, though. I'm also one of those who tends to wait for a GOTY release.

Classic Video Games / Re: Who has best cover arts? Japan or US?

US cover art can be bafflingly poor, and it was especially so during the PSX/PS2 era.
