I was just using Sakura Taisen to illustrate the fact that the book only contains data about the release of games rather than individual variants, but thank you for the (very useful) links! ;D

As I said, if you want someone to be responsible for Japanese Sega I'm more than happy to get going as soon as my collection page doesn't look quite so anaemic.

I don't know if this goes against whatever the plan going forward is, but if you need someone to handle Japanese Sega releases I can definitely do that. I own this book which have full lists (up to date of publication, which was 2002) of every game released in Japan on at least the Master System/Mark III, Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. It gives the title, genre, and release date, so that's something to start with. It doesn't list variations (so there's just a general "Sakura Taisen" release date, not Sakura Taisen, Sakura Taisen LE Box A, Sakura Taisen LE Box B, etc) but I thought it'd be better than nothing.

If you want  me to go ahead just let me know and I can get started once I've added most of my own games to the site, so realistically I can get going in a couple of weeks if you want.

I would prefer a unified digital download category, myself...

I think that would get confusing. Take TERA for example - you can buy it as a digital download in Korea, Japan, the US and the EU... but each one is run by a different company, on different servers, and they don't even play the same as each other (special events run at different times, different XP rates, different censorship, etc) so they really aren't the same game at all.

I agree that for Steam games then there's really no difference between my copy of Portal 2 vs. anybody else's copy of Portal 2, but I think for at least non-Steam (and non-GOG) games we need to recognise the region.

Some more that need adding  -

Atari ST [US]
Atari ST[EU]

Mega CD [EU]

Mega Drive [CHN]
Mega Drive [KOR]

MSX [EU]

Neo Geo Pocket Colour [JP]
Neo Geo Pocket Colour [EU]

Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console [JP]
Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console [EU]

PC [KOR]
PC - Digital Download [EU]
PC - Digital Download [JP]

PS2 [CHN]
PS2 [KOR]

PS3 [CHN]
PS3 [KOR]

PSP [CHN]
PSP [KOR]

Sega 32X [JP]
Sega 32X [EU]

I realise that a lot of these won't exactly be red-hot categories with thousands of entries but they'll definitely have nothing in them if they don't exist! ^^~

I wouldn't want to see this place become yet another review site, but I wouldn't object to a small review field for each game that shows up when people access our personal collections. Keep it really short (say, 200 words or something) so people don't get carried away and I think that'd be enough for everyone - short enough to ignore if you're not interested, but long enough that people who do want to add a little "Why I think this game is brilliant" paragraph can do so.

the bosses are pretty cheap and far more powerful than the grunts you face every five bloody steps.
Uh. This IS an SNK game. It comes with the territory!

Of course! :D

It's even worse here though (yep, I really did just say that!) - I'd literally be doing damage in the thousands to the regular enemies before the boss, then on the boss themselves you'd consider yourself lucky if you did anything over 100 :/ Asura Zanmaden's Yuga may continue to mock my puny mortal skills, but even on a bad day it doesn't take me 20 hours just to reach him.

Finished Samurai Spirits RPG today. If anyone else is planning one playing it I highly recommend cheating like it's going out of fashion - the encounter rate is awful and the bosses are pretty cheap and far more powerful than the grunts you face every five bloody steps. There's a decent-enough RPG hidden away in there, but there's no way in hell I could have stomached playing it properly :/

Image quality isn't great (light isn't exactly an abundant resource in the UK!) but hopefully there's something here you an salvage -

Oops, totally forgot to post in this topic and introduce myself :S

In any case I'm a thirty year old housewife and mother from the UK who loves playing pretty much anything on any system but has a soft spot for Sega and Chinese RPGs :)

I remember that vast amount of money we spent buying our first Playstation with Ridge Racer and Toshinden, I still have a soft spot for both of those games :)

The one series that comes to mind for me is Sega's Sangokushi Taisen - there have been two ace DS games and the arcade version's going strong (three main releases + updates + a Sengoku Taisen spinoff). That's the one series that I'd really like people to play.

Just been through the list of available hardware categories and I've got a few requests *Is shot* -

Arcade could use categories for the IGS PGM, IGS PGM2 and the Taito F3 specifically as well as some sort of generic "arcade board" option for units that don't use carts or similar swappable media (unless you do want a million listings for every variant of every arcade board ever o.O).

PC could use (admittedly just for my own benefit) a PC [CHN] section as well as variations on Steam for users from other regions (so [EU]/[JP] etc or however you want to split it).

Amiga needs an [EU] category too, and ideally a split into standard and AGA  (so there would be Amiga [EU]/[US] and Amiga AGA [EU]/[US] listings). AGA games had their own releases and do not work on standard Amiga hardware.

Also Japanese computers need some more categories added - PC-88, PC-98, X68000

(sorry :S)
