Video Game Database Discussion / Kaze and the Wild Masks' cover
« on: October 17, 2023, 08:28:21 pm »
Hi everyone.
So, I just got myself a North American copy of Kaze and the Wild Masks for the PS4 and the cover is slightly different from the one on the database. On the middle of the bottom of the cover image, instead of VOX (like the one featured on the VGCollect website), it has the logo for "PixelHIVE".
Should this be considered a variant cover?

Modern Video Games / So... What about Death Stranding?
« on: May 30, 2019, 11:16:31 am »
I first played the demo of Metal Gear Solid in the original PlayStation's Interactive Sampler Disc CD Vol. 8 back in 1998.
Since then, Metal Gear has become my favorite video game series ever and, to this day, Metal Gear Solid is still my favorite game (I try playing it from start to finish at least once a year) and I regard Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (and Subsistence) as being, hands-down, the greatest video game of all time, period.
After learning Japanese, I've played most of Kojima Hideo's games like Snatcher and Policenauts and I can easily say that he has been my favorite game designer for over 20 years now.

And now that we've had an awesome (and still very mysterious) trailer and we finally have a release date (I really wasn't expecting it to be released for this generation anymore) for his first game outside of Konami, Death Stranding, I was wondering what is everyone expectations regarding the master's next game.

As for me, I've already preordered the Collector's Edition (something that I very rarely do) and I'm looking forward to the 8th of November.

So, what are everyone's feelings towards Death Stranding?

General / Where to look for retro games in Frankfurt
« on: August 30, 2018, 01:52:26 am »
Hi guys

I will go straight to the point:
I am going to Germany on September 2nd for a conference and I will have some free time to spend in Frankfurt on 09/03. Does anyone know of a good place to go in order to look for retro stuff in the city? Also, if someone happens to know of any good places to go or interesting things to do in the city, I will definitely appreciate.

After my short stay in Frankfurt, I will go to the small town of Hildeseheim for the rest of my one week trip, so if you guys have any recommendations about either Frankfurt or Hildesheim, please let me know.

PS: If anyone here lives in Germany and happens to be free while I am in the country, let me know and I will be sure to take you some gifts from Japan.

As always, I appreciate all the help!

Hey guys.

As always, I hope everyone is doing great!

I recently found this Pikachu Video Cassette Recorder in great condition close to my place:

I tried finding another VCR in the database, but I couldn't find any, so do you guys have any ideas of where should I register it?

I appreciate the help.

Hardware and Tech / CRT TV for retro consoles
« on: September 04, 2017, 08:35:08 am »
Hi everyone!

I finally chose my new apartment! I will be moving in three weeks and I will now be able to store and display all my collection properly.
I'll also have space for a glorious CRT TV so I'm wondering what brand/model/size would you guys recommend.

As you must all know, I live in Japan, so if you could recommend me an NTSC-J model I would deeply appreciate it. But feel free to tell me about some western TVs as well and I will try to find the the Japanese equivalent to it.

So that you guys know, these are the consoles that I intend to connect to it (for now, all of them with RCA connectors):
Twin Famicom AN-505
Super Famicom
Nintendo 64
GameCube
Master System (PAL)
Mega Drive (with Mega CD)
Saturn
Dreamcast
Neo Geo CD
Neo Geo AES
PlayStation 2 (modded original model)
PC Engine Duo-R
3DO FZ-1
Apple Pippin

I recently bought a link cable to connect the Neo Geo Pocket to the Dreamcast.
This item is manufactured by SNK, but since there is no category for Neo Geo Pocket Accessory, I wonder if I should add this item to Dreamcast or to the Neo Geo accessories.
Any ideas?

Modern Video Games / PlayStation VR
« on: July 09, 2017, 01:38:42 pm »
Now that the PlayStation VR is close to complete 9 months since its release, what is your general idea about this peripheral?
Is it still a thing? Has it ever been a thing at all? Will it ever be?
Are the PlayStation VR and the other VR glasses ever going to become popular, is it going to become a niche or is it going to fade into obscurity?

I think the Dreamcast Guy has made a pretty good video about this topic:
https://youtu.be/diIG22rrXsk
I don't agree with everything he says here, but one has to admit that he has some pretty solid arguments, right?

Particularlly, I believe that VR (at least as it is being presented to us in the present) will be remembered in the future simply as a clunky and expensive gimmick that never had the chance to take off...

But what do, you guys, think?

Classic Video Games / WonderSwan suggestions
« on: June 03, 2017, 09:34:43 am »
I know that there has been an old topic to talk about the WonderSwan, but I thought that it would be better to start a new one.

I just got a SwanCrystal in great condition, and I am thinking about going gaming chasing tomorrow. So, do you guys have any suggestions of games that I should pick up for it?

I can read japanese, so anything goes!

General / Game Processor RAM Cassette for Super Famicom
« on: May 03, 2017, 08:47:59 am »
Since today is a national holiday here in Japan, I went out on a little game hunting after lunch.

And among other goodies, I found a "Game Processor RAM Cassette" for the Super Famicom.

I'd never heard about it, so I bought it for ¥100 (around US$0.90).
Trying to find any information on this cartridge on Google is being very difficult (in both Japanese and English). It seems that it pops out on Ebay once in a while for between US$90.00 to US$180.00 and I could found one in a Japanese auction site for ¥12,800 (around US$115.00).

But apart from it, I couldn't find much more information about it. Apparently, nobody knows exactly what it is and what was it used for...
Does anyone have any clue surrounding this cartridge's origin or it's history?
How should I catalogue it here?

I welcome any help you guys could give me!

Video Showcase / Mini Gameroom tour (in Portuguese)
« on: April 25, 2017, 10:45:49 am »
The Youtube Channel "Feru Games TV" recently invited me to show my collection, so I recorded this video in Portuguese.
Since I live in Japan, it may be interesting for you guys who collect from other places around the world. But, I if anyone is interested, I may consider recording an English version or add subtitles for the video.

Anyway, I appreciate any comments.

Thanks as always!

Video Game Database Discussion / Apple - Bandai Pippin
« on: March 16, 2017, 11:48:35 am »
Hi guys!
I hope everyone is doing fine! I've a question about this obscure console...
I recently purchased an Apple - Bandai Pippin in excelent working condition with some accessories (controler and keyboard/drawing tablet) and a couple of games (TV Works and Gundam Tactics).

I noticed that the console is catalogued under the generic category "Hardware". So, I ask if this isn't the time to create a new category just for the Pippin, its games and accessories? Or should I register all of them in "Hardware"?

I appreciate the help!

General / Buying an XBox 360
« on: March 14, 2017, 08:45:05 pm »
Hi guys! I hope everybody is ok!

Recently I just finished my PhD, so I finally have some time to go back into gaming!!
I live in Japan and I saw that both the XBox 360 and its games are amazingly cheap now, so I was thinking about purchasing one. However, I've never had a Microsoft console, so I ask to all of you XBox specialists out there:

Which of the dozens of different models of XBox 360 should I buy?

I appreciate everyone's help!

Classic Video Games / Two questions about your favorite consoles
« on: January 06, 2017, 07:58:34 am »
For most of my life I've considered the PS1 to be the best gaming console ever...
However after starting to collect for the Master System (and maybe because I was born in Brazil, where the MS was king over the NES) I figured out that it may be my favorite console of all time.

On the other hand, since I've been living in Japan for 6 years now, the Saturn became my favorite console to retro collect.
So, I ask you guys:

1) What is your favorite gaming console ever?
2) What console do you have the most fun collecting for?

Hardware and Tech / European Master System on Japanese TV
« on: December 15, 2016, 01:02:43 pm »
Hello guys.

I would be very glad if anyone could help me on this subject.

I live in Japan and, on a recent trip to Belgium, I got a European Model I Master System.
In Europe, it seemed to work nicely, however, when pluging it into my Japanese Toshiba 32S5 TV, the image gets black and white and all flickery and the sound seems kinda slow.

I guess it happens either because most European countries use PAL 230V 50Hz while Japan uses NTSC 110V 60Hz.
So, any guesses on how to solve the problem? Do I need to (1) mod the console, (2) get a 50Hz=>60Hz frequency changer or (3) get a PAL=>NTSC converter?

Thanks for the help!
