Living in Japan, I don't see physical media disapearing anytime soon...

Even though Japanese laws forbid stores of having video game rental sections, movie DVDs and music CDs rental shops as a whole (believe it or not) are as strong as ever.
Besides, shops that sell used stuff (not just video games, but also books, movies, music, electronics and clothes) like Book Off, Hard Off and Geo are among the largest retailer chains in the country.
Japanese (maybe the companies even more than the consumers, as can be attested by Nintendo's conservative approach to online services) are not very prone to change and, believe it or not, there still is a large chunk of Japanese teenagers and young adults who don't even know what Netflix is (as a university teacher, I can confirm that).

Most of the entertainment market in Japan is based on physical media and, as soon as Japan keeps being relevant in the video game industry, I don't see physical media being discontinued in the near future.

I love Sonic CD's complexity and replay value, Sonic 3's length and scope and Sonic Mania's challange...
However, I have to choose Sonic 2 as the best preciselly because it is the opposite of the former three. It is so polished in its simplicity that, for me it is the closest to perfection a Sonic game has ever been.

I have to mention that the Master System version of the first game holds a very special place in my heart though... It is, by far, the Sonic game I've played the most.

I've owned a PC Engine Duo-R for a very long time now and have never had any issues with it... It plays every Hu-Card and CD-ROM² game ever released. The only exceptions are the five SuperGrafx, the twelve Arcade Card exclusive ones and Jūōki (A.K.A. Altered Beast) that, for some reason, is only compatible with the System Card 1.0.

They seem to be going up in price recently, but if you are patient enough, you may end up finding one for the equivalent to US$150,00 on Yahoo! Auctions (in Japanese).

You may need an adaptor to play US Hu-Card (or Turbo Chip) games, but since I always hear about how hard it is to find Western TurboGrafx-16 games and how much cheaper they are here in Japan, I'd say the Duo-R is the way to go!
(No need to invest on a Duo-RX though. The only major differences between it and the Duo-R are the color of the CD tray's "open" button and the joystick that comes with it, which has 6 buttons... Just go for the Duo-R)

I believe I'm a mix of #5 and #9 since, at the same time that I rarely play any videogames and that there are only a few series that I REALLY like (namely, Metal Gear, The King of Fighters and Ace Combat), game collecting is my main hobby and I own an extensive collection with dozens of installed consoles that occupies an entire room of my house.
I feel I'm kind of a contradictory person...

Off Topic / Re: Do you replay movies, tv series' or video games?
« on: December 07, 2018, 06:25:05 pm »
As for TV series, I can't say I've watched many, so I've definitely never rewatched any.

However, I get back to old movies and games all the time.

I constantly rewatch movies that, for a reason or another, have left a mark on me such as The Godfather trilogy (mainly the first two) and the Rocky series. Other than that, I love going back to the first Jurassic Park, Apollo 13 and (for some reason even I can't understand) You've got Mail...

I replay games up to the 6th generation all the time, especially stuff for the Master System, Saturn and PS1/PS2. Based on these consoles I've cited, apart from games that are meant to be replayed (like sports, racing and fighting titles), the video games I've cleared over and over again the most times are probably:

Alex Kidd in Miracle World -- Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse (Master System)
Princess Crown -- Guardian Heroes (Saturn)
Rockman X4 -- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation)
Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War -- Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance (PlayStation 2)
and, my favorite game of all time,

METAL GEAR SOLID

Off Topic / Re: Can You Speak Or Understand Different World Languages?
« on: December 04, 2018, 09:21:41 am »
Being born in Brazil, having lived in the US and currently living in Japan, I can speak Portuguese, English and Japanese.
Apart from that (I don't mean to show off or anything), due to the fact that the study of foreign languages plays a huge part in my area of research (Philosophy), I can also use Spanish, French, Italian, Ancient Greek and Early Medieval Latin. Finally, I've studied German and Hebrew in during my time as an undergrad student, but I have some difficulties in writing and speaking them nowadays.
I really wish I could understand Russian and Chinese though...

Off Topic / Re: What are your thoughts on digital collections?
« on: December 01, 2018, 07:11:00 pm »
I don't have problems in "owning" music and movies that don't depend on licenses to be listened to or wathced. Even if techonlogy changes, as soon as you have a device that is compatible with the format in which your files are saved, you will always have access to your stuff.
(Unless they are saved on the cloud.)

In the case of video games, if the person just wants to play them and doesn't care about losing the license to something they bought, I think you could call this a "perecible collection" or something like that.
As for me, I don't consider "owning" anything digitally as part of my collection. The last time I downloaded any game was probably about 4 or 5 years ago, but soon after that, I promissed myself to NEVER by digital games again. I've lost a lot of games I bought with hard owned money after system updates or simply because the company, for one reason or other, decided that I couldn't play the game anymore...

I buy most of my stuff at shops like Book Off and (mostly) Hard Off.
Apart from that, I love to just go out driving and finding new thrift shops (or "recycle shops", as they are called around here) I didn't know existed. Last Wednesday, for example, I was able to score Sexy Parodius for the Saturn for ¥100 at a shop I had never noticed before.

Apart from that, once in a while I also find some good deals at the Fammys, Otakara Souko, A-2 and Takarajima stores.
And when I REALLY want something and cannot find it for cheap anywhere else, I can (almost) always turn to Yahoo! Auctions.

My dream arcade cabinet would easily be a 6 players X-Men machine.
It is amazing!
