General / Re: What Do You Think Is The Greatest Console Of All Time?
« on: September 12, 2017, 09:07:12 pm »
It is far from beeing my favorite console.
However, if we consider the change it represented not only to the gaming comunity, but to the entertainment industry as a whole, I will have to go with the PlayStation 2.

Hardware and Tech / Re: CRT TV for retro consoles
« on: September 05, 2017, 11:53:12 am »
I really appreciate the replies.

Indeed, I was really thinking about getting a flat 21" TV. I had heard about this issue with the light guns, but I wonder how problematic is it. Does it render the games unplayable?
I ask this question because, in fact, one of the main reasons for me to get a CRT TV is to play some Saturn and Dreamcast shooting games on it.

Once again, I am very thankful for all the support.

Hardware and Tech / CRT TV for retro consoles
« on: September 04, 2017, 08:35:08 am »
Hi everyone!

I finally chose my new apartment! I will be moving in three weeks and I will now be able to store and display all my collection properly.
I'll also have space for a glorious CRT TV so I'm wondering what brand/model/size would you guys recommend.

As you must all know, I live in Japan, so if you could recommend me an NTSC-J model I would deeply appreciate it. But feel free to tell me about some western TVs as well and I will try to find the the Japanese equivalent to it.

So that you guys know, these are the consoles that I intend to connect to it (for now, all of them with RCA connectors):
Twin Famicom AN-505
Super Famicom
Nintendo 64
GameCube
Master System (PAL)
Mega Drive (with Mega CD)
Saturn
Dreamcast
Neo Geo CD
Neo Geo AES
PlayStation 2 (modded original model)
PC Engine Duo-R
3DO FZ-1
Apple Pippin

Modern Video Games / Re: Secret of Mana remake
« on: August 25, 2017, 07:16:14 pm »
I share everybody's excitement everytime a classic is remade or re-released!
And, contrarily to the majority of comments that I see around the internet, I usually don't care much about a game's graphics.
But I have a sincere question: Is there a reason for the game to be released with this early PS2 era visuals?
I mean, is it a remake coming straight from the SNES version or is it the PS4 relaunch of some PS2 or PSP re-release?

I asked this because, if they a releasing it on a current-gen platform with this kind of graphics, even though I'm not a Secret Mana fan, I would prefer playing it on its original form which, I believe, is much more beautiful considering the technical limitations of that period.

If they started doing made to order for everything I would be alright with that, haha

I agree. Even though this way the games take around a month to be printed and sent, I believe this is a way fairer system to all the consumers, a wiser business strategy and a much better way to fight scalpers.

General / Re: What is the first RPG/JRPG you ever played?
« on: August 22, 2017, 06:52:53 pm »
For me, it was Phantasy Star on the Master System.
When I was a kid, I couldn't read English and, as far as I know, it was the very first RPG launched in Portuguese language in any video game console. All thanks to the huge popularity that Sega had (and in a way still has) in Brazil.

Modern Video Games / Re: Shenmue 3!!!
« on: August 22, 2017, 12:04:52 pm »
Contrarily to what most people have being pointing out in the internet, I really didn't have many problems with the graphics and the design of the characters.
Nevertheless, I think this was a terrible trailer.
We are used to see teasers that try to show the best things the programmers and producers have done so far with a game (sometimes even lying to us like Ubisoft among others use to do), but if this trailer showed us the best they had to offer of Shenmue III so far, I am starting to worry about the project. I feel afraid that the game may either be delayed to sometime around 2019 (maybe even later) or (much worse) that they will rush it's development it to have it launched by the end of next year...

What do you guys think?

We are brothers from a different mother. I need to get my collection on here. Sega and SNK are my favs, but SNK had to take a backseat after my AES bit the dust. I can't pony up the cash for a new one right now. Still have my consolized MVS though. I prefer Sega. Perfect mix of arcade and console goodness.

Well, brother, it seems that great minds indeed think alike.

also looking at the pictures the new place is very much needed. the collection is amazing but I have to cringe a little at just the lack of space you have. shelves should not be placed right in front of other shelves. otherwise its set up very nicely.

also curiosity is getting to me. what are those PCB boards I see?

Well, this is life in Japan in a nutshell... haha! But I totally agree with you. The moving came just in time. And if you think I don't have space for games anymore, you should see how crammed are my book shelves...
And answering to your question: the smaller PCB is an OG PS3's Blu-Ray controller board and the larger one is a Saturn's motherboard.

@ferraroso

When I see so much amazing Sega gear it puts a smile on my face.

Thanks, but I wish I had much more... even to this day, Sega and SNK are my favorite hardware companies!

These will probably be the last pics of my collection before moving to a new (and 5.5 times larger) apartment, so I decided to upload them here as a means to remember the place.

I will upload pics of the new room as soon as I finish moving.

Is it just my impression or the Collector's Edition of Night Trap disappeared from the site five minutes before the scheduled launch time? Hahaha!

629
SNK is (or was) my favorite video game company and I also agree that the AES probably has the best percentage of good (or awesome) games released.
However, I believe that the lack of variety in its library cannot be ignored if we are to choose what console had the most "consistent" library. And that's why I believe the Dreamcast wins in this category.

630
I would say that this title belongs to the Neo Geo AES.
But due to the overall inaccessibility and lack of variety in its library, I will need to vote for the almighty Dreamcast!
