Is the Vita a commercial failure in North America and Europe?  Yes.  Supposedly it still sells well in Asia.

I live in Japan, and I can assure that you are absolutely right! Of course, even here the Vita is a niche console, but it still is as hot as it has ever been and I don't see Sony killing it anytime soon. There simply is no competition in the market in which the Vita is inserted.

Classic Video Games / Re: I heard retro game prices have peaked

Everytime I hear the prices people use to pay for retro games in the US I feel that I could NEVER be a collector if I lived there.
Why don't you guys try buying from Japanese sites instead? For the price of this Donkey Kong Country you could easily bundle the whole trilogy AND a Super Famicom console CIB around here... I understand that it is not practical to play RPGs in Japanese, but other genres (such as platformers) do not suffer from any language barrier.

It is more a theme than a genre, but I am completely fed up with anything related to zombies.
I used to like games and movies related to it, but now, I just can't stand zombies anymore.
And this one of the main reasons why I don't like The Last of Us...

I LOVE collecting shitty games (and shitty consoles)!
I've bought a fair share of really crappy ones over the years, but maybe the newest additions to my collection were Bomberman: Act Zero for the Xbox 360 and Battle Monsters for the Saturn. My personal favorites among the games I currently own are Shaq-Fu (Mega Drive) and Heavy Nova (Mega-CD).

I live in Japan and, at least here, I don't see the Vita beeing officially discontinued anytime soon...
Although it is far from being a comercial success, it has no competition in its own niche and, even though Sony has long stopped releasing first party games for the system, at this point (almost 6 years after its initial release) I believe that they should have drastically reduced the manufacturing costs enough to keep their sales lucrative.
It will never be the hit that the PSP or the DS were, but Japanese game retailers are crammed with games for the system and a dozen of new releases come out every month around here.
I own the Vita since day one, but I own only a handfull of games to the it and neither love nor hate system, but if Sony chooses to stop producing it I cannot imagine where all these niche games would migrate to...

Applying the revised handheld model for the Switch, it's neither a home console or a portable.  This sounds not quite as straightforward as the Game Boy Micro or the Wii Mini.  I fear the console would lose a lot of its appeal in doing so but I suppose it would be possible if there's enough interest.

Yeah, I think having a "basic model" without all the gimmicks wouldn't hurt the Switch's image or its sales.
On the contrary, people who like this kind of stuff or that simply love everything Nintendo does would still buy the "premium model", while people like me, who won't buy the Switch for its current price, would feel much more motivated into purchasing the console to have access to its exclusives.

As an example, the 3DS never appealed to me, but now that the New 2DS is about to be released for cheaper than it's 3D counterpart and without all the ugliness of the old 2DS, I am sincerely considering buying it.

I would appreciate if they released a "non-portable" version of the console.
Usually, I never play video games outside and I despise motion controls, so I think that the screen and all the Joy Con gimmicks only turn the Switch (that could otherwise be a very reasonably priced second system, like the original Wii was) into an overpriced low-res gaming tablet.
I don't feel the need to hide that I have no love for Nintendo, so I would never pay US$300 + US$70 (Pro Controller) + taxes only to play this company's games.

However, if they released a "Switch Basic Set" that came with a Pro Controller and that could only be played while connected to a TV, with no screen and no Joy Cons included for US$250, I would happily buy a first-hand Nintendo system for the first time!

The more time I spend on this website and its community, the more I love them!

I edited my original reply; calling it cliche is a little harsh. I'll concede there.

Here we have a wonderful (and rare in most of the internet) example of how people can be open to review their points of view on a subject and even disagree while still continuing to respect others and their respective opinions!

VGCOLLECT IS AWESOME!

(PS: I also liked The New Order)

I used to think that Wii U was the worst name for a console ever, but Microsoft made me rethink it.
XBox One X is, by far, worse!

Classic Video Games / Re: WonderSwan suggestions
« on: June 04, 2017, 11:20:17 am »
Thank you guys for all the help!

I went on a hunting in some cities around and acquired everything that I could find for the WonderSwan for good prices.

I am not a fan of anime, but I just figured out that most of the games for this system seem to be based on japanese animations, so, it seems that I will need to get acquainted with them...Haha

Of the games that I got, Battle Colosseum and Chopper's Adventure (both based on One Piece) seem to be the better ones.

Classic Video Games / WonderSwan suggestions
« on: June 03, 2017, 09:34:43 am »
I know that there has been an old topic to talk about the WonderSwan, but I thought that it would be better to start a new one.

I just got a SwanCrystal in great condition, and I am thinking about going gaming chasing tomorrow. So, do you guys have any suggestions of games that I should pick up for it?

I can read japanese, so anything goes!
