General / My first time on YouTube!
« on: May 30, 2013, 11:40:25 pm »
Here's a little video I was in for the RGS youtube page. Keep in mind a few things: I'm fatter than I've ever been, I say "um" about 1,000 times, and we've only done about 3-4 videos :). Also, it was all on the fly!

Oh yeah, the guy who put this up for us thought it would be funny to find the worst possible still for me to use as the shot on the vid :/

We shot it about a week before I changed up the game room.

General / Thanks to everyone who's expressed concern!
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:55:59 am »
Just wanted to say THANK YOU! to everyone who's reached out from VGC to ensure myself (and others) weathered the crazy storm that went though Moore, OK yesterday afternoon. Luckily my house was not hit. If you've been trying to get ahold of anyone else that lives in the Moore/S. OKC area - our internet is down in a pretty wide area so not hearing anything isn't indicative of anything.

I haven't talked with Soera, but he lives several miles north of ground zero. I would assuming he's fine.

General / Have you ever considered thinning out your collection?
« on: May 07, 2013, 09:46:21 am »
I'm considering thinning out some of my collection. There are a few games for each of my systems that I'll absolutely never play. Some of them are valuable-ish (like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on NES) and some are practically worthless. I thought about this when I was re-shelving part of my game room this weekend. I mean, what's the point of owning a game like Orb-3D, for example? Anything I sold would end up funding things like boxes and manuals for games I really DO want to own.

Have any of you considered thinning, or have any of you done it? I'm not talking about forced selling (like to pay bills and whatnot). I'm talking about waking up and realizing that you need to narrow your collecting goals.

Off Topic / Laserdiscs!
« on: April 28, 2013, 10:34:25 pm »
I picked up a Laserdisc player and 17 movies this weekend. I've never owned anything laserdisc related. Anything I should know? I'm currently watching Independence Day!

Marketplace / Phantom Brave - Special Edition (PS2) FT
« on: April 17, 2013, 10:06:41 pm »
I have a nice copy of Phantom Brave - Special Edition for the PS2 for trade. The game disc and soundtrack are in great shape!

I'm really looking for Donkey Kong Country (GBA) complete right now, but I'm also taking trade offers. I still need plenty of GBA boxes and manuals :)

General / The "Should I have picked it up?" Thread
« on: April 01, 2013, 10:52:29 pm »
Here's a thread for those of us who pass on a deal and wonder if we should have just bit the bullet!

I'd like to keep this thread dedicated to current events, not focusing on deals we missed back in the day.

Today I saw a copy of Brave Fencer Musashi. The game was complete and in pretty good shape (clean disc, manual, bonus disc, etc.) The reason I didn't pick it up was due to the fact that part of the artwork was damaged (the top cover art was missing the spine section). It was $25.

Did I make a mistake?

User Feedback / brettybluevein

I'm in the process of making a purchase from brettybluevein. I don't have the game yet, but I will. He's a good guy who would never rip anyone off. Just thought I'd go ahead and get his feedback thread going.

He has the Darko stamp of approval!

I know him in real life, not just through the inter-webs.

Marketplace / Interest Survey (GB/GBP Backlit Screen)
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:38:12 am »
So I've done 5-6 GB backlight mods now and I'm really comfortable with the process. I'm just wondering if anyone would want purchase one from me if I continue doing it. I have several extra units lying around now and they need a home. I'll have to charge something for them as it costs me a little time/money to put everything together.

If I do this I don't want to ripoff myself or VGC members. So, assuming there is some interest, what would you guys be willing to pay for something like this?

EDIT: I can also do the prosound mod but I highly recommend against it unless you plan on using the GB for chiptune. It's more expensive and you kill the external speaker (unless you want to pay even more for something you will likely never utilize).

Marketplace / DuckTales 2 (NES) - Cart Only for Trade!
« on: March 14, 2013, 10:25:02 am »
EDIT: Cart has been traded!

So I'm changing this thread a bit. I've ended up with an extra copy of DT2 that I'd like to trade :)

Something of equal-ish value please!

The label isn't perfect but it's not totally destroyed or anything. The little brown dot in each pic is thanks to my camera, it's not on the cart!

Hardware and Tech / DMG Game Boy Backlight
« on: February 18, 2013, 01:23:36 pm »
I've decided to take on a backlight mod for my transparent Play It Loud DMG Game Boy after taking it apart and giving it a good cleaning this weekend. I've ordered a white backlight kit and a new lense. The process seems fairly strait forward but I was wondering if anyone here has successfully installed one. Is there anything I should know before attempting this? If you have one, are you happy with the finished product?

General / SHUMP Recommendation Thread
« on: February 12, 2013, 11:15:15 pm »
I though this might be a fun idea. We could even make more threads like it in the future.

When you make a suggestion I'll add it to the list so we don't have a ton of random posts to search through to see what the recs. This list is just for people to look at so they know what's out there so if you have 50 suggestions feel free to throw them all in at once.

Please include the region if the games are exclusive to regions outside of the US. JP, EU, etc.

I'll start it off.

Iridion II (GBA) - I picked it up tonight and played through a massive chunk of the game in one sitting. You can change weapons on the fly which is a nice feature and it looks great on the GBA.

Classic Video Games / Let's Name the Top 150 PS2 Games Together
« on: February 05, 2013, 09:50:09 am »
This should take less than a day...

This works the same as the other "Let's Name" lists.

Rules:
-Please add only 1 game per post.
-Please allow others to post before posting again (to prevent this from becoming 1 person's list)
-Please do not repeat games that have already appeared on the list.
-This list is not supposed to be in order of greatest-to-least-greatest, it's a build-as-we-go list.
-Multiple entries from the same series are acceptable. For example, if someone has already listed Digital Devil Saga, you can still list Digital Devil Saga 2.

To start off:

1. Final Fantasy XII
