General / Warning!!! (do not toss or sell your OG Xbox Consoles)
« on: October 07, 2023, 06:27:51 am »
Here's the reason why. I just recently hooked up my black Xbox360 console and I just found out tonight Microsoft did something to the firmware that prevents you from playing 99.9% of all Xbox original games even both with, and without an internal hard drive installed now. September 2023. All you can play with the Xbox360 console from the very first series of Xbox that came out in 2001 is HALO COMBAT EVOLVED.  I didn't check if Halo 2 still works or my other Microsoft studio game.

But yes, now my own Xbox360 is basically no longer compatible with just about my entire collection of OG Xbox games. This is Proof that the modern gaming industry doesn't give a s hi it about older games. Which is why i am working on saving a whole lot of 20 years or older games to a storage device for safe keeping.

Thought's?

My 360 is still in mint condition by the way

Classic Video Games / Everything You Know About Emulation
« on: October 01, 2023, 03:11:21 am »
First off i'll start by mentioning most gamers determine that ANY game you can download for free is illegal. But when I ran a deep search many years ago. It said the only free full version games that are illegal are games that are younger then 20 years age since of release. OR

any game that has an active copyright. In which case most games older than 20 years don't anymore. Mostly of
the SEGA DREAMCAST and other 5th generation and below that qualify as acceptable to play and have but not sell.

However, this does not qualify for most PS2. Xbox O
riginal, or GameCube games. But having Dreamcast games should be still ok because. Some have been renewed but i am not sure.

The first step to having some free ROM's is to buy a PC Or Mac or arcade or minicomputer. Then connect it to online. Run a search for ''free ROM downloads'' or you could type in ''download Abandonware'' if you are using a raw. Or ''Download MODS''

For consoles like Sega SATURN & Sega DREAMCAST, and PS1 you need to download BIOS files depending on what emulation software you are using.

The only 2 companies you might have an issue with when installing or giving away or using or even playing them to begin with is, Nintendo and maybe EA. But Nintendo ROMs are actually the most common. Distributed free of charge games they are found on the internet in groves and on 100's of websites including some in 1st party for temporary purchase and for temporarily to access and download. For Full price.

SONY is starting to get more like Nintendo every day I overheard. Atari & SEGA as far as I know are out of business of distribution of mainstream video game consoles but not completely.  NEO GEO i think they run a tight ship on copying too.

Turbo Graphics 16 and 3DO, are also abandonware.

If a ROM game is not responding to you controller input or game is lagging or crashing try tweaking the emulator core options or the emulator itself, or download that ROM or DOS game from a different source.

Test your controller and emulators before you start getting seriously into them.

I've ran many searches and i only heard of one person going to prison, but I think it was because the person was actually selling the stuff for a mid to high price tag and he did not have the copyright.

I recommend running your PC as best performance and in game mode on both the screen and processor or mother chips.

Think of a combo of any wild American western shooting game like Ĝunsmoke then combine that with any Gran theft Auto game A III Or further  only confine the gameplay.
A little more that GTA then you got GUN. Also this game has level up and shops to spend the money you can earn from doing side quests.

And you got an idea of this game, this game is a challenging ACTION RPG old west based shooter. You can fire your weapons in both 1st or 3rd person, and the controls especially the requirements for precise and fast gun aiming with the d-pad or analog stick.

Early in in game you need to shoot arrows out the sky in a multi quick time event if you miss a single flying arrow you fail and need to do the event over. Other times you can find the game that you need to defend something or someone else before they die, while making sure you don't die yourself. This game can get frustrating enemies can take 10 shots to bring some down some even are riding on horseback at full speed too.

Some will trample you to death with horses and kick you ass. Sometimes you can find yourself mashing wrong buttons in order to aim and kill you enemies fast enough before they destroy your current mission objective. There is a TON of defense missions that you Need to do. In order to advance. But the game is still fun. Have you ever played GUN the game before?

Classic Video Games / Has Anybody Ever Play An Atari 7800 Or ROM Before?
« on: August 27, 2023, 06:23:22 pm »
I was just curious about one console that didn't do too good back in the 1980's and that was most defintely the Atari 7800 console. I double doubt you can still find cartridges for a real 7800, so I just downloaded some ROMs for it, and only one game in and I'm pretty impressed with it

I'm currently using a EMU7800.Win emulator with a 2600 and a 7800 pack of old ROM's all together in the same Emulator, I got off the Internet Archive webpage. Fatal Run for the Atari 7800 is a good game, kind of like a downgraded NES type of a system, I am using the keyboard as my controller, so no need to bother with the Atari 7800 or Atari 2600 joysticks or paddles? just good old keyboard action

How many are curious about Atari games I am going to try the jaguar next if I can

DON'T GET ANY ATARI JAGUAR ROMS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WORK RIGHT

20
I have bought and have 6 PlayStation Consoles 2 PS3's and 3 PS2's. But finding MOST PS1, and PS2 games is IMPOSSIBLE in my area and there is NO WAY I can ever get a chance to play most old SONY PlayStation games ever unless I download ISO's. SO today I downloaded A famous PSX Emulator, then first I set it up to work with my Windows 10 PC, Then? a message comes on the screen that reads as follows

As Long As You Have A REAL SONY PlayStation Console in your possession YOU CAN use this special file to run ISO's on this emulator, legally. What is your opinion on this statement? could this be true that we no longer need to physical copy to legally own the ROM's for the PlayStation 1 "AS LONG AS WE OWN A REAL SONY PLAYSTAION CONSOLE" but no longer need to actual game?

Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, because if this is true I think it is VARY fair

and best of all if WE are going to preserve the video game industry

General / Your Own Opinion About Collecting Today
« on: August 24, 2023, 12:14:35 am »
Eventually I found as a media collector I got overwhelmed with too many choices of games to play, then I found myself buying the same games over and got stuck with 2 copies uninformed. I currently want to watch others pickups  but. I don't think I want any more games or music cds

One video game often has 100s of ways of playing the same game anything from unlockable, or custom content or controls, to mods, to hidden cheats and skins, pathways, difficulty settings to tweak able options etc including playing with other characters And multi-player. I hope VGCollect you can get this comment because some say you got 7000 games or more this comment is just reminding you just to be thankful for what's yours, and maybe try to explore the universe you already own. Like I struggle to do and I have less with about 5000 at estimation

I am not jealous I just wanted to give you my own philosophy I don't mind even if you had every game ever made I just know that me myself wouldn't be happy unless I knew that everyone who wanted a copy could get one. Alongside me and play with me and play alone when I wanted to be alone.

I think I said this before, on this forum, this is not to prevent you from accruing new games for yourselves, this was just my experience once I stated playing the games I had already had in my collection

General / What Are Your Top (Four) Consoles Right Now And Why?
« on: August 22, 2023, 08:59:51 am »
My top four video game consoles are the only ones I have plugged in right now at the same exact time. I use a AV Out, and Switchboard with 4 buttons on it. That enable me to only use one AV-Out connections to my CRT itself while the rest of the 4 other consoles are plugged into the switchboard. If I wanted to connect more consoles up to the same tv switch I could use another switch board but that would disable 1 of the 8 switches making only 3 more switchboards to use. SO I only plan on using 4 switches for now and on those 4 switches are the following consoles

1: Xbox Original
2: PlayStation 2 Phat
3: Xbox 360
4: PlayStation 3 Slim

I don't have my N64 plugged in because it is broken, and my Wii, and GameCube, & NES, and Retro Duo, and SEGA Genesis does not have that many of my most favorite games on it

23
That is what I have been doing all along, I often don't play my games because I am afraid they will get worn out faster. I have 1000's or Atari games on a handheld, and virtually each and every single arcade compilation including 100's of games that were once inside the Big bulk arcade machines of the 1970's 1980's and 1990's.

for the 6th generation of consoles, I managed to preserve sports games as well such as Golf, Basketball, Hockey. Baseball, Soccer, American Football, Racing simulators. I got mostly all of the old war simulators from the 5th 6th and even some for the 7th console generations. I also got a stream account that allows me to purchase even more games from when and if I can't ever find a physical game ever again.

I got Skyrim for the Xbox360 but never played it, I also have Dark Souls I and Dark Souls II. I have a working original NES and SEGA GENESIS model 1. I don't have that many SNES or an actual Super Nintendo Console but I managed to grab an NES SNES Turbo Graphic's 16 and a PS1 Mini for HDMI compatible TV's

I got a mint condition and working Xbox Original that I play love to play Star Wars Battlefront I and II on. I have a mint condition Xbox360 slim black with a 500GB harddrive. a mint condition PS2 Phat as well as 2 broken PS2 slims that need some severe work. I have a mint condition PS3 Slim with over 200 GB of harddrive space

I have a PS2 multi tap but I never could get the PS2 Multi tap to work, and I also have a PS2 Phat network adapter. I got lots of PS2 Memory cards and even large Gamecube Memory Cards and a mint condition GameCube and Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 64 but the N64 needs severe cleaning and all of it's cartridge's need to be reprogramed unfortunately because they do not work correctly

I got several N64 Brawler Controller as well as bootleg regular N64 controllers but only one REAL N64 controller. I got a lot of games but mostly shooters, sports, and racing games but like I said I did manage to accrue some RPG's and JRPG's but NOT THAT MANY OF THEM.

I got over 22,000 songs all Rock Classic Rock Alternative, Metal, Country, R&B, Soul, Gospel, Classical, Jazz, Broadway, Pop, Christian Rock, Latin, Soundtracks, New Wave, Rock n Roll, Big Band, and even New Age, Celtic Irish Music, Scottish Rock, Pirate Rock, and other kinds of music that I allow people from around the world to listen on "The Angel Classic Rock Mix" My own ICECAST radio station that is broadcasted just adjacent from my Game/Living Room in my home.

I also have an ASCAP blanket license I pay for it to make the (online) radio station legal.  And I also help the artist through Stream Finder's website when other people obtain the music that I play through Amazon.com when people choose to buy the MP3 files not from me but from Amazon's website

My main question is. have you been working to preserve the video game and Music Or Movie Industry through various DVD's CD's and/or bluray disc, OR Hard Drive/SD cards? many of you might not like me? but what is your opinion now that you know the truth?

My entire collection is not displayed on this site, but you can get a sneek peek at what I have, and I just looked at it, and it looks awsome to me at least, because it's got something for everyone in it

and it didn't really cost me that much money, because I did not purchase it all at one time and was vary picky at what games I choose

click link below to get a peek at what I have, then? maybe you can use my example to get yourself some awesome games for your own collections

Classic Video Games / Your Opinion's Of Both Star Craft 1 And 2
« on: May 19, 2023, 10:23:37 am »
Believe it or not Blizzard online store is still selling 2 and remastered version of the first game today (date of this post) and Steam "I DONT THINK" currently has rights to sell this game meaning you need a battle net account in order to access Star Craft and Warcraft still. unless you still have the disc AND the install code lying around.

Blizzard is now letting you get the original for free now I think?, the thing about having the Star Craft disc is that without the install code there is no way to install the game via the disc either because unlike most games the encrypted install code was changed for just about every single copy of the disc ever made, meaning this game I don't think ever have a universal install code deeming the disc worthless without the paper sleeve or the original jewel case,  unless you knew somebody who could hack your disc or could do it yourself.

Anyway, I NEVER found a universal key for this game anywhere on the internet ever, but luckily with a battle net account you do not need to have a paper install key but rather a password in which most times can be recovered easily if you know how.

I bought Star Craft 2 years ago and forgot I bought it, just yesterday, I found out I had a battlenet account that I completely forgot I had with both games on it, now I am replaying the original game made in 1998 on Windows 10

I like this game a lot, but when I first saw it's cover as a kid I didn't think I'd like the game being a real time strategy game in which I am not good at real time strategy games. But for some reason I can usually play this but I did cheat to figure out how to work this genre at first because before Star Craft I never played real time strategy

If you are new to the genre I recommend Star Craft to begin your journey but be warned it's not easy still on people that never touched a strategy game in their lives before like how I used to be before this game

General / How Many Stopped Playing Your Consoles Due To Crashes
« on: March 23, 2023, 07:11:01 pm »
There is a thing going on online and even creeping offline between hidden LAN network connections, I am now going to give away a whole chunk of my collection to charity hopefully tommorrow becuase I can't play any video games anymore because of hackers causing my games to crash if and when I start beating the CPU, or what I believe to be the CPU. After looking online I found out that I'm not the only one who is suffering instant unknown game crashes due to not bugs, but hackers who hack into the games inner codes and break peoples game.

Nobody is safe and knowing this has prevented me from playing any console game for 4 years now both online and offline, if you think this is impossible , your wrong your wrong your wrong, and if you think this will not happen to you your wrong your wrong your wrong. Mostly everyone could be affected at this point.

Bitches do this shit for fun instread of enjoying games they prefer to mess with the codes for laughs anf fuck people over and over again taking all the enjoyment out of gaming for 1000's of people worldwide.

Earlier this year it was darn near IMPOSSIBLE to find a copy of Star Wars Battlefront 2 for the original Xbox in physical form now I see it is back in stock on both Amazon and Walmart used.

As time goes on I've noticed certain games go rare then pop back into the for sale on the online marketplaces  again and again, but what happens when some of these games will no longer be available for months or even years at a given timeframe?

that fact is why I don't want to obtain and collect video games anymore, and what makes me even more of a hoarder of games and even music.

in fact my username Oldgamerz was a name I created for this site back in 2017 as a protest towards the modern digital only ways of the gaming industry, if we are excluding the Nintendo Switch. As was the main reason why in 2015 I jumped on the bandwagon and grabbed as much as I could before it was or would be gone for good.

I'd say most of the Nintendo 64 library is hard or near impossible to find now

a vast majority of the PS1 and PS2 library is hard or almost near impossible to find now

you can forget about the NES SNES SEGA SATURN AND DREAMCAST NOW.

You can probably forget about retro handhelds too all to most of them too.

What other systems and games for them are hard to almost impossible to find now? :'(

General / Your Personal Shooting Games Camera Angle Preferences
« on: November 03, 2022, 03:54:01 am »
which do you prefer 1st, 2nd, or 3rd top down or side person camera angles when playing any kind of shooting game or a game involving any kind of a gun period. Now some of you may wonder what a 2nd person angle game would be like and this YouTube video describes one theory but it is not a shooting video game.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC8QoRa8y_Q

but I'm sure someone on this forum can find what would be called a 2nd person shooter, but who's judging?

I personally like 1st person shooting video games best and 3rd person shooting video games the least. I like 1st person shooting video games the best because they I believe they put me in the game more. And I'm actually "In The Game" rather then watching the game from the sidelines. 3rd Person camera angles make me feel less in control of the actual game, due to my focus on the blood and gore rather then the animations of the game characters.

3rd Person camera angels is better aped for medieval or hand to hand combat and sword fighting video games rather than for shooting video games in my opinion, in many 3rd person shooting video games you can often find your character's ass gets in the way and you can't see to aim at your targets especially if they are flying or high up above you. meanwhile while the camera is zoomed into your character's ass your getting it kicked by one or many of your enemies in the game.

I don't like top down shooters that much either because I feel pretty much the same way about them as I do 3rd person shooters, like I said I feel like I'm watching the game from the sidelines instead of playing it at that angle, plus top down shooters remind me that I'm playing with toys instead of a video game.

I sorta like side scrolling shooters because, why not? I mean there are more probably more side scrolling video games more then any other kind of camera angle ever created right? If you don't like any side scrollers? than you must not like 66% of every single retro or indie game ever created in the History of video games period.

So?? this bears the question? what is your favorite camera angle when it comes to shooting video games?

General / How Does One Become True Multi Trade Video Game Master?
« on: October 04, 2022, 07:58:19 am »
I thought I was good at Unreal Championship for the original Xbox until I upped to the 2nd hardest bot difficulty, facing bots not actual humans in which in my experience with other games is suppose to be easier than facing other humans, and I found out that now my hands are too sweaty to get a grip on the Xbox controller.

and I'm now getting my ass kicked my hands are constantly slipping off the buttons does this ever happen to you in other games? or perhaps this game in particular?

and how did anybody play and win live tournaments against harder opponents like real people for example without their hands slipping off the buttons, I know that I'll probably never get to participate in a REAL original Xbox tournament in my life not even for one game because I don't know anybody. but I wonder how did anybody have the talent to win back in the day and even on some modern gaming tournaments today?

29
I thought I could spoof up the off topic section with another interesting thread where we can ask question about old or new TV shows, video games, music or other entertainments.

My question to you all is?

Who was that funny horney looking mutant lizard character in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon that used to air back in the mid 1990's?

when I looked up Lizard Character for that particular show all that came up on the internet was an mutant alligator named Leatherhead but it looked nothing like him in the original show or what I saw when the show was advertised.

The reason why I ask this question is because for one I never actually watched the show, and for two I'm a fan of Duke Nukem 3D who has spent countless hours as a teenager fooling around exploding pipebombs on lizards asses while Duke Nukem kept saying in the game I'm gonna put the smack dab on your ass

As stupid as is sounds

all i know is the lizard always has his mouth open and teeth showing like from what I gather he sounds kind of like a pervert in the show with a raspy lusty voice, does anybody know what the hell I'm talking about?

30
And when I mean retro I mean PC retro, or 7th console generation and before generally games released between 1976-2015 or perhaps newer mods for older games or newer released 8-bit or 16-bit games for older consoles or PC's

in fact that is all I play when it comes to video games, all I ever hear when it comes to modern video games is RPG or open world exploring games, or even RPG strategy games or mobile games.

Do you think all the games pre generation will be lost in time?, I hope not,

For you born after 2010 in my own opinion you really should look into these old games your parents and possibly even your grandparents or great grandparents played in their lifetime

people who grew up in the 1970's and 1980's when the video game industry began pretty much are now growing into their 50's and late 40's others in their mid to late 30's (date of post) now, and people like that grew up in the 1990's and 2000's are really the ones who seen the video game industry make the most improvements.  (edit) (Graphic wise)
