General / Outdated Or Funny Storylines In Retro Video Games

Ok so my first post goes like this. I own Duke Nukem 3D and the Duke It Out In DC expansion and it's storytelling is. oh god.

US. President Bill Clinton has been abducted by aliens and you DUKE must rescue US President Bill Clinton from certain doom. so as the game progresses in which is a great expansion by the way you get to the final boss and at the far end of the level you find Bill Clinton tied to a swivel chair, defeat the boss you get a photo screen with some text thanking duke from Bill Clinton. then and Duke Nukem and Bill Clinton shake hands and then the game ends.

Looking at this games story-line to todays standards I mean could you image a videogame plot where president Donald Trump gets abducted by aliens or even Obama and you would have to go rescue him or them

General / Does Alcoholic Beverages Really Help Play Games Better

hello, I had not drank a single beer in years and I was just wondering does Alcoholic Beverages really help win video games? Beer makes me feel sluggish but I take medicine so that may be the case.

Every good gamer I heard of, or met. Says beer helps you win or at least drinks an alcoholic beverage while playing. I don't understand how, for example it can help on a racing game for example as this simulates drinking and driving, and driving under influence though not exactly in real life, I wounder how would this affect a gamer in a racing game. again I wounder your thoughts of how (if so) drinking and playing video games helps you, or? does it leave you feeling ill?

General / How Do You Feel About Yet Another Call Of Duty Game?

As some of you know A new Call Of Duty game is coming and, you guessed it it's another world war 2 First Person shooter game as if they just plain ran out of ideas. I used to like Call of Duty series but in my opinion, what are they doing creating another world war 2 shooter? as if they are starting their entire franchise all over again. I am just plain sick of world war 2 shooters. world war 1 barly gets any attention and I can't figure out why. this is crazy I mean all the WWII battles are covered on the PS2 there was 4 games for original Xbox and PS2 and countless PC games featuring  Call Of Duty.

 this is laughable out of all wars done call of duty has to backtrack world war 2. What about the Cival War or the Mexican American war, they made strategy games for those wars instead of battlefield sims.

there is so many other ideas COD could stick with and they come up with another graphics update to the second world war and come to think if it featured another war I might have just bought a PS4. of course there is Battlefield 1 but I think that is online multiplayer only

General / Does Anyone Remember The Giga Pet / Virtual Pet Fad?

I remember growing up in the nineties and just about everyone I encountered at school was into and had a Giga Pet also known as a Virtual pet. I was not into them nor did I ever understand them, so I never asked my parents to buy me one.

So what are some of your thoughts on the Giga Pet Fad, I have a good memory and can remember such things as devices we no longer use like Giga pets and Pagers.

and while were at it can you tell me what modern console or handheld replaced the Giga Pet. I only remembered how popular that they were not how they were replaced. assuming that they were replaced

I have a few games I mastered in my lifetime. Or beat, but here is my list of games I can't get enough of, and keep resorting back to. But, most of my list don't include a highest difficulty. Because I enjoy winning and hate cheap AI in games as I said earlier. Ok so I'll admit that I suck at most video games when it comes to playing them raw

General / Imagine If You Were Invited To Play A Game In Front Of People (live)

How would you feel if you were on television as a Nintendo, Atari, Sega, SONY, or/and Microsoft Champion? and how would you react to a game in your challenge you've never got a chance to play yet?

 so imagine, how do you think you'd win? think of a competition where every piece of hardware is equal and nobody can cheat, how do you think the experience would come out? and would you be mad if you lost the competition to someone who already had the experience in a random game challenge.

think of a challenge were all the games were chosen and you none knew what you were going to play to prepare. Or would this even be the slightest bit of interest to you?

which contender comes out as in 1st place? But remember what if again you could not cheat and everyone had to use raw skill.

I would like us to elaborate on this, what kind of video games do you even think would go in a challenge these days and why.

For me I would be extremely nervous and 9/10 probably come in last place against universal video game champions like those of you on this forum because for one I get frustrated easy and fatigued vary quickly and I have never played a game in years with an actual person so I could not say how I would react to this if I was randomly chosen

I saw some videos on YouTube of this and the way they ran the contest, like only for a few minutes made me think of how crappy the championship was set up.

I mean how many of you out there think you have what it takes to go on a video game contest for as long as a football of basketball game then think of yourself as a video game player/athlete competing night after night only giving you some nights to practice

General / Rubber Banding and Rubber Band AI In Racing Games Or Cheating AI In Games

How many have this issue, in racing games? where like when trying to turn your racing vechile and have to put up with losing control of the back side of your car, eventually crashing into a wall then hit by a computer, and do a spin out then lose a race in last place because once the computers are past you and keep going. I read that someone on retro collect mentioned rubber banding and I only just recently came across this frustration. In games like Wave Race 64 and 1080 snowboarding for the N64. and even sometimes in gran turismo

AND does anyone have it where your like playing a sports title and all of a sudden the AI beats the crap out of you by sending all of your players to the opposite side of the game while the computer racks up points? on your defense?

I am starting to think that hackers altered all my video games so I lose at them it is possible I mean I've seen my PC game disc curropted while strange people would pull in at my neighbors house

General / What Do You Think Is The Greatest Console Of All Time?

For me It would have to be the PS3 Superslim 250 gig model. It is a vary reliable thing and you can go online with it and every thing else. But the major downside is you cannot play PS2 games on it becuase it has no PS2 hardware. the fats overheat and don't last long in most cases otherwise that would be my vote.

General / Lets Name Some Games That Frustrate US To The Point Of Cheating

I need to get back into the zone with playing some of my retro games because that is what I collect and play for. I often fear a new game because I am afraid of losing after working so hard just to get a game over screen 50 million times over. I hate the way hard and unfair games leave me fatigued and mentally wound up when I don't push the buttons fast enough. I am just not hyper active anymore and most game I have require fast reflexes or precise controller handling

Also some of my games freeze leaving my depressed and paranoid about people hijacking the AI for player movement in which I believe is possible but
 I am going on 29 years old and my love for collecting video games is vary high but actually beating them makes me scared thinking if it is going to run or if I'll run into a glitch mess or something like a racing game where all computers go faster then your  max speed can go and you've got the game on the easy setting.

so I've been sticking to the sims 1 and simcity games currently

Does anyone know that with the new US copyright laws in place that have been in place for a while now, give the video game manufactures of most PC video games, the right to recall and take the video games away from us at any given time. (especially the downloadable only video games)

SO what are soe of your emotions on this FACT above people how does THIS make you feel. or do you even read lease agreements like EA's EALU agreement before installing or downloading a video game from off a server

General / What Would Another Video Game Crash Mean To You?

  I don't think this would be good with the current market because of the fact that older video physical copies would be in further demand and then only rich people would be able to buy them . People are greedy, and I fear if the video game market crashed then fewer video games would be available to us buyers. Considering the fact that if the video games just stopped completely we would have to wait 25 years or longer in order to legally to obtain then in the United States, because everyone would be saving them in their storage units. retro video games would be impossible to find and newer games might be cheaper, maybe. but I personally think if we have another crash it would be the end of video games completely and only the people who were collectors would have a shot at playing any of the video games.

what we need is not another crash but more retro style games in fact a reset of the video game industry where Nintendo goes back to the NES, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 style of games and the SONY goes back to the PlayStation 1 and 2 graphic style. What we really need is for people to put money aside and produce more retro video games. people get old and new kids are being born everyday.

DO we really want only the rich and the inherit collectors to be able to play video games. Sorry but I love them and I'll never be sick of video games.


If you are sick of playing video games than say it, don't spoil the fun for other people who still have yet to beat the billions games out there
