Classic Video Games / Re: Repro Game Carts
« on: July 02, 2018, 02:53:49 am »
I am ok with repro cartridges  as long as they work. however if a game still don't work, and it's clean it's a problem.

I don't open up cartridges to see if they are originals. Because I figure as long as the game works all the way through then I believe it was worth picking up depending on it's prices. for me.

I never understood people getting upset over a $5 USD repro video game that works and plays fine and (also plays like the original) that being said, I don't agree with sellers making fakes and it don't say it's a repro or a sign that it is not an officail. however a repro in my opinion is only worth $5 USD.

As for ROM's I'd rather play a Repro cartridge. that works, rather then a ROM file in which can contain any type of malicious code I like the physical aspect of repros.

Plus I been burned by a free Mike Tyson's Punchout ROM before. That made it impossible to beat a certain character with making the character impossible to strike punches

I remember getting some Skylanders there when I was younger, back when the first Skylanders game had come out. I also remember seeing displays for the newest Call of Duty game, which I believe was the first black ops, but I may be wrong. I also remember seeing an ad for Lollipop Chainsaw somewhere within the store and my parents being disgusted. lol

Welcome to the VG collect forum campingboy7  I see you made your first post :)

Mine makes me profoundly unhappy.

Sometimes I genuinely believe homelessness would be better.

Well if you were homeless how would you be able to play your video games? or even have a video game collection?

I don't have a paying job but at least I have a home and an income

Just a few years ago I bought the ColecoVision 1 and the Intellivision 1 flashback as well as the Atari Flashback 6. from online Toys R Us,

Back in the day Toys R Us, was not where my family shopped too often because their prices I think were sorta high even in the 1990's

I found a bunch of ultra-rare Atari XE/XL games from Infocom plus Ultima IV yesterday for $18 each plus an old SSI game for C64 for $20. All are complete except Spy vs Spy so I consider that a steal. Ultima IV by itself is probably worth as much as the rest of the games combined.

I am happy for you great job ;)

As you all know there are already a gazillion threads about idoits who find their untested Atari in the attic and ask $500 because they have no understanding of the market.  In the vein of this thread the retro ignorance is a worsening condition especially in smaller rural areas like East Tennessee.  I've lived in large cities like Phoenix and Denver where the independent game stores and flea markets flow like wine, but in smaller places like mine its Letgo or ebay or nothing.  With that said yes.  I still find good deals but its 1 in 5000 when its used to be 1 in 500.  To feed my collection I'll try to find a good deal, like something CIB and then sell it on ebay FOR A FAIR PRICE.  Most folks who use letgo have been burned by ebay or dont want to mess with shipping (enter the 30lbs xbox) which I get.  Sometimes I pay over value too but I try to break even when I can.  I keep a few apps from the android store that help give me an idea of game value but at the end of the day you have to trust you gut.

BTW the button batteries in those old NES carts last a long , long time if stored at room temp.  They can be replaced fairly easily with a security bit (special screwdriver from the ebay) and a few minutes on youtube.

I am not into retro collecting for selling, but I am in for keeping and possible sharing with someone I can trust. I am sorry if I sounded ignorant in my posts or the thread. Selling  is not why I collect. amazon does have some good deals as well as JJgames if you live in the country setting and play retro video games

I found Sly Raccoon for PS2 in a charity shop for £1 a couple months ago and yesterday I got Super Streetfighter IV for Xbox 360 (XB1 backwards compat) for £1.

Sooo I’m picking up the odd thing. However the finds are few and far between and nothing exceptional.

Not finding Zelda for pennies or anything.
my seller yesterday had 2 copies of "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" and a ton of other NES games I never heard of in a locked case. I think "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" NES was priced at $20 a piece. I didn't pick it up because I was not sure if it would hold a save game state being so old and everything. Plus I am not a huge fan of NES games being so hard.

I can tell you the place I bought the games at is South and South West of Detroit Michigan, it's easy to miss. If you don't know where the Taylor Trade Center is.

it's on a busy street called Ecorse Rd RD and it is located in the middle of a strip mall with a Happy's Pizza and other places near buy

there only open on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday opened from about

10AM–6PM eastern standard time

http://www.taylortowninfo.com/

East of metro airport in Romulus Michigan

there are currently as of (7-1-2018) 3 or 4 video game vendors and sometimes they don't show up

How many of you out there are still finding good deals whether online, or in the wild?

Just yesterday I found 10 disc based console games a large Gamecube memory card for all $55. I thought it was a good deal. It was not a fixed lot so I got to pick all ten or more games all priced as $5. my choices of games was anything $5 was from just about all mainstream disc based consoles. Xbox PS2 PS1 PS3 Gamecube  Xbox360 and some more other cartridge based games. I  even had the option to buy as many games as I desired also a manual and correct case on all but 1.

hope is not completely lost for low budget collectors and that is the reason for this post. This was purchased at Taylor Trade Center an indoor Flea Market

PC is a hassle, in my opinion a PC can have more things that can go wrong with it. Some video games come with undetectable malware, the steam PC app is annoying because it really slows down your computer. I recently stopped playing games on my PC

I was just searching for a thread about compilations and I stumbled upon my vary first post on this site. For me nothing has changed I still won't input the arcade classics into the database. because I was told not to

I still love video game compilations and I always pick up compilation games when I come across a compilation that does not already include the games I have in a different compilation.

Among the ones I've listed in the original post I also have a pinball game compilation and "

SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1" for PS2 as well as Intellivision Lives and Namco Museum 30th anniversary collection :)

I like to experience the past of video games, I often use YouTube for to get an edge of what to buy next before it's all gone.

And while I can still get most games CIB usally PS2 PS1 PS3 and Xbox and Xbox360 titles for $5 or less at a local flea market

I mainly play story driven games, I rarely bother with multiplayer. The last game I played some MP was with For Honor just to try out the system.

I am also that rare breed of individual that plays shooters like COD and Battlefield for the story driven single player campaign... After I'm done with it I maybe play 1 match online then never touch it again. I'm currently doing that with COD WWII.

I am the same way so you're not alone, I too play Call Of Duty games like Ghost's for it's story for example, where it actually was a story driven experience I actually liked Call Of Duty Ghosts on single player for the PlayStation 3. I beat it once but never went back because I didn't like how in the end you get taken away and the villain wins and it leaves you hanging on for a sequel. But I can still go back to it.

General / Your In Game Names Or High Score Names
« on: June 27, 2018, 04:21:23 am »
What do you call yourself in a game when it tells you to name your own character? Or when you leave a high score.

I usually use my own name in the past, but occasionally I'll name myself a funny character name like when I first started playing video games I was playing PGA Tour Golf for MS.DOS on PC I came up with a golfer by the name of Mr. Fart, also I call myself AAA in the high scores because. who cares? I am not in a public arcade and I'm usually lazy when it comes to high scores.

It's  funny sometimes in a RPG where you name your character something weird and it comes up in the text dialogue

I'll be honest in my post, and tell you that I don't plan my purchases, but I do often watch Youtube to get an edge on what games to buy or that look fun :)

Because talking to actual humans is a drag.

You did help me on one of the threads I've made and I do appreciate and thank you for  telling me about an arena based shooting game ;)

If you stop trolling some of the other people you would be a lot happier and you could start making friends.
