Pretty much the same as people who would vandalize another persons property in general.  However I see those that come across the internet as somewhat avoidable.  Avoiding a site that requires additional downloads to get the file you want.  Paying attention to what the extension of the file you downloaded.  Anything with the .exe extension is bad news, unless you were actually downloading an .exe.  Adbockers and antivirus/malware are your best friends.

With caution the threat of malware is, in my opinion a little more avoidable than that random asshole that decided your car needed an egg wash, or that your house was in serious need of increased air flow through broken windows.  A new coat of paint via the cheapest rattle can they could buy.

There is some protection using some browsing extensions and anti virus software. but there are still ways people can make malware undetectable, yes a strange .exe file or website attachment can be a virus or not, but I've seen blank extensions as well as other file extensions that are also malware. Also ransomware that goes undetectable and changes your windows permissions. It has gotten somewhat harder to vandalize these days but It is still vary possible and more common than most think. People even gone as far as calling themselves Microsoft and sending a malicious update to someone computer

what their deal is I do not know, some find it funny but how? Because your probably never going to see that persons face, and some malware designers have even broke their own laptops with their own program

Personally I don't understand why anyone has the nerve to ruin something that is not theirs. and  not even know the person, who fall victim to their shit. I hate when you download from a certain video game site and everything thing is fine until, you then pick something to download and it has secret codes attached to it that could eventually break something.

Not everything you download on the internet is a virus but a lot of malware is completely random, it can be anything from a game breaking glitch or a hardware malfunction.

Yea I remember the time when my PC almost caught on fire and if I was a person without some electrical experience. It might have burned my house down. My PC was new at the time and their was no reason why, when I went to this one site. and no it was not a porn site my PC started grinding and stinking but I managed to save my PC by spamming the power button because It almost burned up and even the power button would not it shut off.

By the time we get to that point, the patents will have expired, allowing other companies to make newer, more reliable consoles with modern technology. We already have that with SNES and earlier.

Also, there's backwards compatibility with some systems. I don't need a working OG Xbox when my games play just fine on my One.

And then, of course, there's always emulation, both of the legal and illegal varieties.

emporerdragon said it in my opinion. I think PC's and Laptops will at least have some sort of ROM database to download from or some kind of central computer. And depending on if the video game companies are still in business or not. might depend on whether you can download the game for free :)

There are a few PC game fan sites as an example will let you download newer and updated versions of  old games for free, but unfortunately in my experience a lot of those sites contain malware >:(

Classic Video Games / Your Favorite Mech Game
« on: May 16, 2018, 06:50:25 am »
Mechwarrior 4 Series

1: Mechwarrior 4 Mercineries PC
2: Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance PC
3: Mechwarrior 4 Black Knight PC Expansion pack

For those who are new to this series, or too young to know this series is mainly on PC although I do own a PS1 version of Mechwarrior 2. This series is a first person shooter that lets you take control of a huge war machine called a Mech. you shoot other war machines called Mechs in 3D or first person and or even in third person if you choose.

It is basically another game about future war simulation with a story line. Especially the Mechwarrior 4 series. MW4 Vengeance, and Black Night PC Expansion has the best story out of all of the PC versions I've played, in my opinion. Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance and it's expansion pack is worth adding to your retro PC collection also in my opinion

I highly recommend for all Mech gameing fans "Mechwarrior 4 Vengeance" and Mechwarrior 4 Black Knight and Mech Warrior 4 Mercenaries defiantly MW4 Mercenaries. :)

Mechwarrior is not that console game that came with the massive control station

General / Re: Do you think video game collecting is expensive?
« on: May 15, 2018, 10:01:39 pm »

I am forever grateful that retro PC collecting has not caught on with the masses. There are a handful of very expensive big box games, but they make up like 5% of all PC games. the rest are $20 or less.

PC Gaming is cheaper because old PC games usually need patches or some kind of outdated hardware or software mod function, to not crash, when your trying to play the game on a modern computer. Heck ,PC games would even crash back to windows in the 1990's even while playing them on a 1990's computer. I grew up as a PC only gamer and I can tell you it half the games I had didn't even work on an older computer without some sorta glitch or an error message, onscreen, forcing the game to end with no reason at all.

right now? It depends on your budget and how much you really want to buy the games for and how and where you look.

Online stores are a convenience so if you go online for something, generally I would think you would pay more for something. However in flea markets maybe somewhat less

You want something really cheap than bam, go to a garage sale if you can find one. But flea markets and garage sales are usually made for city, or suburbia lifestyles.

There are 2 places in my city that I went to. but also a whole chunk of my collection was bought for online for under $10usd at www.jjgames.com by searching in their all games in all categories.

but that is online still and they can be a little on the pricey side for the popular games of all genres like $15 to $100usd. However, JJgames has gotten a little rough around the edges, as far as the condition of a lot of their stock these days. Or,
or their just plain "out of stock"

Golf yea I've been golfing and it's cost me about $60 for only access to half the damn golf course but I rented clubs. but this was one of the more expensive places to golf that I went to also. I thought it was a complete waste of money because the golfing course staff would not stop yelling at me to move when I could not find the ball

Yeah I knew the risks when I did it.  In the small town I live in we have little options for storage.  I do have a a few business units that you can rent, but they're not climate controlled.  I had some friends store their things in them and every time I have had to help them we had to battle rats and roaches.  People don't care about the condition of the things in those units.  Most of the time they will pile them full of infested junk and let the lease run out so they can wash their hands of it.  That's what put one of the facilities out of business.

I just wasn't figuring on it being this bad since I wasn't figuring on being invaded by mice.  There's nothing in that shed to attract them other than the fact it's shelter.  The games were in sterilite containers that were sealed.  They were taken to my brother's house a while back.  Since he's four towns over we just haven't got around to shipping the rest off.  I would love to keep them in the house but space ain't having it.  That's why they're going to my brother.
Mice like to nest in boxes I am sure of. Because they can make a fortified nest in them for
having baby mice and rats too. I used to get mice in my garage a lot because there is a junk car in there and it is separate from my house. but right now there is 2 cats living in my abandon garage.

Don't be surprised to find pink hairless baby mice around because it looks as though they are nesting in your shed at the moment. But you should be able to get Dcon from the local hardware store I hope

I once saw a video of a Youtuber named Larry Bundy I think. He also had a lot of his collection in a shed and almost his entire collection was ruined by water damage because the shed had sprung a leak in it's roof.

Storing them in an outdoor shed is not a good idea. Out there ,your collection is exposed to heat and cold and moist air depending on where in the world you live in.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of your CD's or DVD' or even Blurays are no longer in working condition. Sorry this happen to you.

I guess you probably don't have anywhere else to store these games

but It would be better for you to store your collectibles in a heated or  at least environment or somewhere in your home but never a garden shed again. :(

General / Homebrews In The Collection Do You?
« on: May 13, 2018, 10:59:40 pm »
How many of you have bought homebrews and added them to your collection. Second how many know any homebrew game titles. I recall 1 called "explosive diarrhea" for the Atari 2600 or VCS also another game for the Atari 2600 called Adventure 2.

but in general lets talk about homebrew video games. are there some homebrews worth mentioning.

is there a such thing as homebrew games that work on the Nintendo 64 or PlayStation 1 or 6th 7th and or 8th generation consoles?

« on: May 13, 2018, 08:18:06 pm »
A PlayStation 3 super slim. It is my most used item in my collection but mainly for ripping and playing music CD's and it's online Youtube app. and I love my Atari Anthology and Activision Anthology for my PlayStation 2 and my sports games.

And definitely my collection of The Sims Series, and also my N64 collection even though the games I have are kinda hard to play.

In short I have no regrets for anything I own except maybe 2 PS2 slims that won't stop spinning the disc when I shut it off or open the tray. If you put your finger on the PS2 game to stop it from spinning you instantly and severely  scratch the game to the point it may never work again.

General / Re: Isn't video game collecting kinda just hoarding?
« on: May 11, 2018, 08:25:50 pm »
I feel guilty because of what I said in another thread about me and some collectors hoarders. I didn't know what other word to describe some people having 3 or more of the same game or console.

It's personal with me. I just feel it is unfair to others who want a specific console or game that can't have one because they are all sold out because someone else bought them all out. This will I feel may happen in the future. But I got to look at it like this I guess. their is always ROM's and PC as well as newer consoles I guess. I know I will get a lot of flack for this post but I just hope someone else would understand my concern. I collect because I fear if I don't it will pass me up in the long run :-[

General / Relaxing Video Games Thread
« on: May 07, 2018, 09:18:15 pm »
Let's say you don't want to work at a fast paced game or you're tired. what are some video games that relax you and let you go at your own pace I know some that relax me because I am not really a hard core gamer here is a list of some of mine Or even if you find all games relaxing say so.

1: (The Sims) (whole series) Here is a strange genre like no other. You can build, you can create things and the gameplay is usually not headache inducing, It keeps you busy whether you're playing a PC or console version it is mostly the same and it puts you into a new reality. Many consider it a girls game, but I am a guy and I like this series

2: (Pokemon) (series) Mostly a handheld RPG vary relaxing it don't require a heavy load of thinking. At least in my experience just pick a tactic and press a button with trial and error it's battles are sorta like a game of chess only more fun however it is the only RPG that I really enjoy so far

3: (Golf games) although sometimes playing a perfect game can be frustrating. It is one of those games that I play and enjoy at times. Although I rather be golfing on a real course using real equipment. But real life golfing is a vary expensive hobby that I am not going to take up in real life, so I just play the games once and a while

4: (Simcity) series build a city and control it while doing it. But The Sims for PC is much more in debt of building a city in fact Simcity is just like The Sims only less complicated. In other words you can actually build a city in the Sims 2 and 3 series and control its government just like you do in Simcity

5: Roller Coaster Tycoon series, I enjoy the 1st and 2nd one better then the 3rd one. and in this game you build and run an amusement park, and watch people ride your rides in the 3rd one you can actually ride on all the rides you make.

As you can see most of these are PC games but, I'm sure there is a lot more relaxing games to discuss here if you want to talk about video games that relax you. Even if there completely different types of games.

I know some of you probably find faster paced games to be relaxing, just like my old friend in high school she could relax at playing a fast paced NHL hockey game. Or maybe all video games are relaxing for you at this moment in your life. :)

General / Re: Market Crash Hypothesis
« on: May 06, 2018, 05:43:20 pm »
Everyone wants to make money, and most of the retro market will eventually all go pricey. Especially with the fact that a lot of modern games are digital only downloads and are likely to close their servers or take the games off the online store.

We got people hording retro games as a result and I am included in this. But luckily for everyone else into collecting retro games I only aim for collecting one copy of the game, even if I find it cheap I try never to collect more than 1 of the same video game because I respect others. But I have duplicate of some of my games that really mean something to me like Compilations.

And I know that the retro gaming market will get outrageously high in the future. letting only the rich in on the retro gaming goods.
