General / How Much Love Do You Have For Video Games
« on: May 06, 2018, 04:31:56 pm »
My love for gaming is about a 5-10. however my love for having video games in my collection is about 10-10. my other love is music in which collecting music gets an 5-10, listening for music it's a clear 10-10.

what's your scale and how much enjoyment do you get out of games and whatever else you collect?

What if you keep a video game sealed for years and years. and whoever opens that game finds no game in the box or sealed case?

Or in my case a defective PS1 disc that is bent from the factory

What did you ended up doing with the box and the disc?

I threw it out and now I feel sorry for it. It was a copy of Ford Racing for PlayStation 1. the CD was thicker then usual and the CD was slightly bent to the point that my PS2 slim could not
spin the disc. But I always could have tried it in a PS2 phat model but I never did.

Put yourself in someone else's shoes for a second. Would you want to get all excited about a video game that you wanted to play, bought it, then came home and put the game in the console only to find out it was something completely different from what the cover said it was? let say you lived in a rural neighborhood and had to drive 30 miles to the nearest town only to drive back to the store if get you money back

Yes most certain this is morally wrong for a person to swap circuit boards with something different and sell them to Gamestop or any gaming store for that matter

Why not buy both the "Megaman X Collection" and the "Megaman Anniversary Collection on the PlayStation 2  or Gamecube ???

the "Megaman Anniversary Collection" contains 10 Megaman Games in FULL with 2 of the  games being exclusives in Japan

and the "Megaman X Collection" contains 7 more different FULL megaman games

If gamestop finds out you will be in a lot of trouble

It never stood out to my why churches especially do and ever did protesting over video games and Rock music. This was the reason why certain games didn't make a good sale and probably the same with "Conkers Bad Fur Day"

Earthbound probably got flack from it's name alone. and probably that is why it didn't sell vary well

Digital killed the rental.

I agree on this as well. But I also can't stand the thought of all video games going digital download only as I prefer physical to digital

Before there were CD's in PC gaming their were this thing called a Floppy Disk and it required at least some sort of windows command prompt command in order to install or even play the games every single time you wanted to play it. It was not like modern PC games where all you have to do is click on the icon. instead you had to type into a command prompt called MS/Dos

There are 2 types of floppy disk. the original floppy disks or the late 1980's were big, flat, and square and flimsy and could not hold much data, at all, compared to today data standards,

Then there were the harder, smaller, less flimsy  floppy disks of the early 1990's and they worked vary similar to the old, larger, and flimsy floppy disks. the newer harder and smaller floppy disk and held more data a little over 1 megabyte, I think.

however both floppy disks and floppy disk drives drives ended up on both Apple and Windows PC's of the 1980's and 1990's.

Does anyone remember the buzzing sound difference the big and smaller floppy disk drives? if not then I'll tell you my larger floppy disk drive had a vary low pitch buzz almost like a fart while my smaller newer floppy disk drives still had the buzz but it was louder and more high pitch. this was back in early 1990's

So I found some old Dungeons and Dragons PC games today and picked them up just cause I thought they looked interesting. I know nothing about old pc games and just thought I could use them to trade or sell them. Anyone have any info on what they might be worth or do we have any pc collectors that have equipment that would be willing to help test them?

Old PC games especially floppy discs don't usually run well on modern computers. Also unlike gaming consoles people just throw out their old computers when usually they are more then 5 to 10 years old usually or older sometimes.

Of course there is emulation like the DOSbox app  https://www.dosbox.com/   for windows in which will help. If the game is to run on a modern system.

But if they are floppies than someone would need a floppy disc drive in order to play them. there are USB ones.

But it also depend on what kind of floppy disc are we talking about. hard floppy disk? or soft floppy disks? if you mean soft floppy disc then I'll tell you. I have not seen a soft floppy disk player since I was I'm guessing maybe 4?, 5? or 6? years old and my current age is now 29.

however I know peope at least use to sell portable hard floppy discs drive (new) to connect with USB in the PS2 era.

(TO USE DOSbox)

also to use DOSbox it is not as simple you will need a floppy disk drive and copy and paste all the files from the floppy. without deleting the game disk. and put the files into a new folder on your desktop for example.

but can't quite remember how to use DOSbox but one of these things below

You might be able to drag the .exe file into the DOSbox shortcut on your desktop to run it

or either drag the DOSbox shortcut into the games .exe file to play instantly I can

@dharmajones93's post as well as everyone else who posted has a good point. I will admit I didn't know off hand a video game that didn't have some kind of life and death scenario. as far as other scenarios I would think that not being able to win in a game due to a clock feature and pertinently still  not being able to win the game would be a little harsh.

We do need some challenge in video games or else they would bore everyone or at least most people.

One thought I had for a boss fight. Would be when he or she is defeated he or she would have something funny happening like maybe a giant tornado picking up the boss and taken off screen kicking and screaming and possibly talking up a storm while your character just shakes their head and walks off into the sunset all the while the boss is talking garbage in the background.

or perhaps if you lost the boss fight instead of dying your character would get  a prank done on you by the boss character in some kind of short cut scene. But probably something more interesting then what I just said.

since life and death has been in just about every single game since the Atari 2600 console in 1978 or in old primitive computer systems that came before the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972

in fact if I lived forever I would still play some my games of video games with the life and death scenario because like most people I do find it an interesting concept for video games but maybe just maybe something different? ???

2367
thank you for clearing that up I hope none got offended. I am one of the people that always wondered about this question.  :-[

2368

If a video game didn't include some kind of  life and death would you still be as interested in that video game

I am not a preacher talking about the violence of video games but I am curious if life and death is the only thing that would make a video game interesting to us.

Are There In fact some video games that are not sports that do not include the life and death scenario? because I'm curious (non picky) if some developers ever thought of  anything else beside the life and death event in almost all video games to date

it seems standard in all non sports video games anything from shoot em ups to RPG's to even some fighting games although some fighting games say KO.

In fact, what is your take on this let say instead of death in a video game something you may think is funny happens to your character if you fail other then

Oops damn I died, oops damn I keep on dying. :)

What console do you want to import for? And what region are you in? NTSC or PAL?

in the NTSC north american territory

I was only curious about this. currently am not doing imports. But I just wondered how people do play imports because I have heard about the different voltage requirement and different size outlets before. Plus I know a lot of collectors play games that were not released in their region

« on: April 21, 2018, 08:08:34 pm »
Please correct me if I am wrong

I know barely anything when it comes to importing other than the fact that you most times when you buy and play a game from another region you might need the same region of the console as the game you're trying to pay. or some kind of different hardware.

So far as of this date I never bought a different region electronic. But I am curious to hear about if you also need a different region television for different region game consoles or alternative house electric plugs since I heard in PAL regions they have completely different outlet designs

As of today I don't own anything not in my own region but I am curious to hear your thought on this

here are some threads before I even joined I found this after I created this thread even though a ran a search
