Me personally, I just got a Playstation 4 for Christmas. This wasn't expected, nor was it on my list of things to get. I'm not ungrateful, but now I have a game system that I have have to get games for now.

I'm not so much looking forward to new releases as I am looking to building up my PS4 collection. Right now, my focus is on getting those titles that are the most affordable like the sports games & titles that were released near the console's release date. Here lately with all the bugs that have been in some of the games such as WWE 2K20, I'm not so sure that paying $60.00 for a brand new game is the right thing to do. I hate to take the clothes off of a game developer's back, but there's no harm in waiting a week or two after a game's release to see how it is.

The good thing about WWE 2K20 is that the price sunk like a stone from its release date to the Christmas shopping season. I might wait to buy it when it gets down to about $9.99. That way, I can boot it up & watch the characters rubber band between the ropes & do some squat walking.

Classic Video Games / Re: Retron 5 Compatibility
« on: December 16, 2019, 01:57:54 pm »
The physical copy of Game Genie will not work on the Retron5, however the Retron5 has a built in Game Genie. I think it will be a while before we see 100% compatibility if ever. Someone has created a Google Doc spreadsheet for Retron5 compatibility.  Not quite complete, but could be very useful as people fill in the blanks.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/tn3xCad0cVguOzw81367Tfg/htmlview#

Originally, I had reservations about the Retron 3 when I bought it, but never had any issues with it. I started playing the Super Famicom & Sega Mega Drive games, which works perfectly in the Retron 3. That's what got me interested in playing foreign games. The physical Game Genies for SNES, Genesis, & NES all worked, which was great because I love hacking my retro games. The Pro Action Replay for SNES & Sega Genesis also works too. As for playing regular Game Boy Games, if you use a Super Gameboy, it works perfectly. At the time I also had a Game Genie for the Game Boy. I had to physically modify it so that it could fit into the Super Gameboy cartridge slot, but it works too.

When they came out with the Retron 5, I was excited about it, but when I started watching reviews of it, I was less than impressed. I don't like the fact that it doesn't play certain games & the fact that it doesn't play the physical versions of the Game Genies is a deal breaker. I would also have to believe that the Retron 5 also doesn't work with the Pro Action Replay cartridges too. Even if it has an internal cheat system, it isn't the same as plugging in the Game Genie & finding random codes that have weird & crazy effects.

Classic Video Games / Re: PS2 clones and alternatives

Since getting a laptop & getting all the right tools, I've been able to use an emulator to play all of my PS2 games. The only down side is that the frame rates on most of the games are low. I mostly use it for hacking my PS2 games mostly to find areas that aren't normally accessed by normal means of playing or other things that were never deleted from the games.

As for the actual systems, I will only get the slim versions. I currently have one that plays NTSC-U/C games & one that plays NTSC-J games. I recently ordered one that plays PAL games (satin silver). If one starts to break down, I have a local video game store that actually specializes in repairing game systems. That's more reasonable that buying another used system & having to shell out more money for shipping & handling.

I personally don't mind a torn label or a cartridge with some discoloration. However, it doesn't make it worth as much to a collector.

When it comes to finding retro games, I generally have more luck finding them at pawn shops or thrift stores. One time I found a NES system (with no cables or controllers) for just $5.00. I tested it out since I already had the cables for it & it worked.

Site Feedback / Screen Shot Gallery???
« on: May 25, 2019, 09:42:20 pm »
Hi,

I've had my collection featured on this site for about a year or two now. I just now figured out how to take screen shots on my laptop.

I was curious in addition to being able to take pictures of the front cover art, rear cover art, & the actual disc or cartridge, would it be possible to add a gallery where one could add pics of game play?

I think this would go a long way in helping people decide if they would like to add a particular game to their collection.

What are your thoughts on that?

Video Game Database Discussion / Question about contributing pictures
« on: January 09, 2018, 11:43:44 pm »
Hi,

I was wondering is it possible to contribute pictures to the site to use in the database? I saw where you can take pics of your collection, but wondered if you can do more than that. I have a large library of PS2 games (over 500+). I noticed some of the games featured, don't have pics of the discs. Is it possible to add those? (Provided they fall in line with the rules of course.)
