Modern Video Games / Re: Xbox Series S or PS5? Which one is best? :O
« on: June 19, 2020, 09:41:16 am »
Both.  Because I buy both consoles to get the best from each.  It’s not that difficult to do. While I prefer XBOX’s UI, controller and much quieter hardware to me it’s a wash because I still enjoy both.

To me both platforms are flawed one way or another, but this doesn’t matter if you enjoy the games.  It isn’t like SNES vs Genesis days we’re differences ACTUALLY mattered.  Today they are two sides of the same coin only separated really by the types of 1st party games people like and controller preference.  Both of which aren’t really a big deal.

Secret of Mana on the SNES CD
Scalebound
Star Control IV
Star Command X: Armada

There’s more but I’m drawing a blank.  :(

1. 3DO
2. Saturn
3. PC Engine / Turbo Grafx / PC-FX

In no particular order.

Borderlands 2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Super Mario RPG
Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Final Fantasy IV / Final Fantasy II US
Oblivion
Skyrim
Red Dead Redemption
Grand Theft Auto III
StarCraft
Unreal Tournament
Doom
Diablo
Tetris
Street Fighter II
Final Fantasy XII
Horizon Zero Dawn
Age of Empires
Dungeon Siege
Wing Commander II
Privateer
Sonic the Hedgehog
Pac-man

Off of the top of my head I’d consider those.  There is more I’m sure so I may edit my post later.

Borderlands 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.  While not technically this generation the Special Edition of Skyrim is from this gen and I keep coming to this as well.

Not interested in anything that isn't a physical copy only.  Once the industry goes completely digital / streaming I am 100% out. I have hundreds of games to play and so many games that I won't even get to play them all in my lifetime.

Price doesn’t matter much, I buy both Sony and MS so games at launch do not matter either.

I like the new XBOX console style so that will be likely a first week/month purchase— not doing first day just out of principal.  The PS5 is a 50/50 buy for me.  Need to see more.

MY ENTIRE LIST!!!!!!!!!!

The Elder Scrolls VI

1. Love the system design.  Finally something different than what we've been seeing since the PS2/XBOX era.
2. It has an optical drive, so far so good.
3. Not entirely sold on the name, but, who cares it is just a name.
4. It'll likely be backwards compatible with the XBOX One (and hopefully XBOX 360).
5. As long as it has physical game discs and it is at LEAST backwards compatible with the XBOX One I'll likely buy whatever the most expensive version is going to be.

Too bad they didn't learn from Nintendo's Switch and make a portable XBOX.  I think it would be revolutionary if they did, but I get why they don't do it.

Scorpio > Xbox One X
Project Natal > Kinect
Revolution > Wii
Dolphin > GameCube
Mars > 32X
Ultra 64 > Nintendo 64
Morpheus > PlayStation VR
Xenon > Xbox 360
...

How come the names given to the prototype video game consoles ALWAYS end up being much, much, MUCH better than what the companies end up naming their retail versions?

^ This.

No.  As long as they aren't pushing streaming content and have physical copies of games I'll just buy the next gen and keep what I've got.

This is a great topic as I frequently buy and play games from all regions on this generation of consoles.  I hope someone has the answer or can test it.  All of the games I have don't have DLC or they are bundle editions with DLC built in.

Final Fantasy.  Way too many to name.

My little brother has an S and their alright. As I said in the thread I created about why anyone would buy and XBONE over a PS4, his justification was Halo and Gears. Other than that multiplats all play and look the same for the most part.

Controller plays a huge part of it too.  I prefer the XBOX style layout and feel over the PS style.

I actually disagree with this one- it's nice-ish, but it's hardly '3 systems in one'. Of the 360's 1,114 North American releases, 568 are Xbox One compatible- that's only about 51%.

As a counterpoint, what games for the 360 would you consider "must plays" that are not playable on the One? While they didn't get every game, effectively every major release and top rated non-sports game is on the BC list or has a port. So a person may need a 360 for something like Barbie Puppy Rescue or Bomberman: Act Zero, but the big games of the generation like Halo, Mass Effect, Gears of War, and so on, all work on the One and perform even better than if they were on their home console.

^ 100% this.
