Looking into potentially adding stock photo field as a new image entry category. Then it would be possible for people to choose in the settings which way they prefer to view the site.

Thoughts?

I don't think "stock photo" is the correct name for the new field(s) / image slot(s).

Currently (as of July 19, 2023)
There are three image slots for an item entry:
- Front art
- Back art
- Cart art
The problem is "What goes in those 3 slots?"

Some users want to see nice clear images of the "front artwork" and "back artwork", usually these images are made by removing the artwork from the item case and placing the artwork in a digital scanner and making nice clean beautiful images. If media for an  item is a disc, this can also been scanned for a nice clean image.

Other users want to see a photograph (or scan) of the "front" and "back" that shows every sticker, hologram, etc. that is on the item showing the item sealed in it's packing. These photos are usually of a poor quality but do show more information about the item.

It seams the slots should labeled something like:
Item Front (this shows everything shown on the front of the item package)
Item Back (this shows everything shown on the back of the item package)

Artwork Front (this just shows a nice clean image/scan of the item front artwork)
Artwork Back (this just shows a nice clean image/scan of the item back artwork)

Hello, as part of the "Big Category Changes" under "OUYA" can we get a "OUYA Accessory" category?

Then, I could move the following item(s) be into the "OUYA Accessory" category.
OUYA Wireless Controller https://vgcollect.com/item/43412

This seems to be a duplicate entry:
Collectorvision Phoenix https://vgcollect.com/item/170591
Collector Vision Phoenix https://vgcollect.com/item/199658 This entry is wrong, company name is wrong, and release type is not Homebrew.

The "CollectorVision Games" website is https://collectorvision.com/index.php :
And console information including name is at https://collectorvision.com/phoenix/index.html

Currently no changes are to be made (including conformity of naming) regarding the big categories for Sega, Nintendo, Xbox or Playstation sections. That comes from the top.

Virtual Boy Accessory sub-cat has been created
Thanks for the Virtual Boy Accessory sub-cat :), I understand.

Currently the "Nintendo Virtual Boy" is an oddity on the site, as it seems to be the only "Nintendo Console" that uses removable media, without it's own category.

I hope sometime in the future, when the people at the top think it is appropriate, the "Nintendo Virtual Boy" can have it's own category like all the other Nintendo Consoles.

As part of the "Big Category Changes:
Can we have a "Nintendo Virtual Boy" main category with the following sub categories?
"Nintendo Virtual Boy Consoles" renamed from "Virtual Boy Consoles"https://vgcollect.com/browse/vbhardware Note: This currently contains both Consoles and Accessories.
"Nintendo Virtual Boy Accessory" a new subcategory
"Nintendo Virtual Boy [JP]" renamed from "Virtual Boy [JP]" https://vgcollect.com/browse/virtualboyjp
"Nintendo Virtual Boy [NA]" renamed from "Virtual Boy [NA]" https://vgcollect.com/browse/virtualboy

Hello, as part of the "Big Category Changes" under "Texas Instruments" can we get a "Texas Instruments Accessory" category?

Then, I would suggest the following items be placed into the "Texas Instruments Accessory" category.

Texas Instruments Home Computer Remote Controller PHP1100 (black buttons) https://vgcollect.com/item/34609

Texas Instruments Program Recorder https://vgcollect.com/item/80333
Milton Bradley MBX https://vgcollect.com/item/84022 Note: The Milton Bradley MBX is an accessory for the TI-99 Computer.

I altered a couple of the really bad ones, but it is allot more work for info which I'd argue many would ignore. plus this new rule will result in allot of poor listings that looked perfectly fine prior to this

it's not scanned with the hologram BTW you just insert a hologram of a box on an actually high quality scanned item that wasn't in the plastic case. it's impossible to scan it nicely in the original case even if said case was in flawless shape.

sworddude, thanks for trying to explain about scanning things to dhaabi.

Here is a suggestion:
I think the site should use the nice looking covers (providing they are the correct artwork) without the holograms. And, a note should be placed in the description field that stating that "a hologram is located on the bottom left corner of the jewel case front", that way no data would be lost in the database.

The data field we are discussing is "Front Box Art", to me (and I think most users) a hologram placed on the front of the jewel case is not actually part of the "Front Box Art". If the hologram is physically attached to the artwork (not the jewel case) then it should be seen in the "Front Box Art" picture.

I got to leave a comment here. somebody posted allot of ps1 pal front box art while the art is still in the case. While many of these listings where perfectly fine prior to this. allot of listings look really bad atm

The art is either damaged or the box is damaged which is shown on said box art. or a reflection of the background is in said picture or it's out of place.

Tried to replace these with decent quality covers that lack these imperfections. but allot of them got rejected for missing the hologram.

The hologram ain't even on the box art it's just on the plastic case. This is not a thing you should reject it is not part of the box art. and it will result in really shitty pics because of mostly damaged boxes. and at the very least a reflection of the background.

it's also fun that people change listings of games that most would consider english. to spanish etc which results in a new english listing being created that nobody has in the collection because everyone is left at the version that they don't have anymore.

examples of horrible looking listings that got rejected because of lacking hologram

https://vgcollect.com/item/226806
https://vgcollect.com/item/231238
https://vgcollect.com/item/19385
https://vgcollect.com/item/233763

also in the above examples even if a new picture has less pixels. These above pictures look so bad that an exception should be made for nice looking replacements with less pixels. It's easy to get a super high resolution with a camera but in this condition surely it ain't the best option

Even the best case scenario's that I didn't list are off picture and or with light reflections

If you are going to include the hologram for pal ps1 games which ain't part of the box art the quality of the pictures will look terrible compared to everything else on the site. I would exclude this restriction it ain't great to get box art on this site that is still in the plastic case. even if it's done really well.

I agree

I agree with vivigamer here.

This is a really bad change

allot of listings look really poor now.

https://vgcollect.com/item/231238
https://vgcollect.com/item/19385
https://vgcollect.com/item/233763

Where not hiding any info by not including the plastic box. any pal collector knows this. You'll see way less of the actual images this way. your just scanning the plastic box.

Imagine if you where to do this for usa versions of disc based games like dreamcast or ps1 it will just downgrade the images, your scanning the box art through a plastic box

Didn't notice this sooner, but we suddenly got allot of items with very poor images
