I dont believe in censorship of any kind or any way myself.

I'm not a fan of censorship in the least, I just feel uncomfortable exposing my son to negative things because I'm concerned he's not quite old enough to grasp the fact that you don't emulate things you see in video games or on television. However, it's the parents job to educate their kids and teach them right from wrong--you can't blame GTA or South Park for your kids bad behavior. Although you still have to take into consideration that a 5 year old is not always going to exercise common sense. lol.

It's all about development IMO. If your child can handle it then by all means.

I think video games can be a great medium for not only entertainment but education as well. I remember playing Math Blasters and the Mavis Beacon penguin game (teaches kids how to type).

Speaking of old games I played in school--does anyone remember Oregon Trail? I played it in elementary school on an ancient Mac.

Any gamer parents here? :) I have a 5-year old son who loves Lego Batman and Ratchet & Clank (on both the PS3 and DSi XL). I rarely let him play "adult" games but recently he's been enjoying ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. A question for the parents (and non-parents)--what age is too young for video games and how often do your kids play video games?

My friend is a FPS devotee--CoD and Battlefield are his games of choice. When I think of casual gamers, he comes to mind because he plays games that are marketed to the masses and are not too difficult. He's part of the FPS/Madden/Halo crowd and considers himself the only true type of gamer, I guess.

An acquaintance asked me if I was a "hardcore" gamer and a friend of mine quickly replied "She's not even a gamer--she only plays RPGs". So this begs the question, does the genre of the games you play decide whether or not you are a gamer (hardcore or otherwise)? Also, who would you consider a gamer?

Dark Souls & Demon's Souls are arguably the most difficult games this generation IMO.

I had to give up on Demon's Souls because I wasn't making any progress past a certain point. Dark Souls seems to be slightly less difficult than it's predecessor though. I love both these games--the punishing, hostile environment is really unlike any other game out there.

Unless it's branded Madden, Halo, CoD, God of War, etc. They don't know wtf you're talking about.

I must have lucked up because my local GS is nothing like that (I even got a free art book to go with my copy of Atelier Meruru!) although I have experienced that at other GS stores so I understand where you're coming from. Do all the GS stores in your area suck?

I'd be into it if only it didn't have anything to do with Gamestop. Ugh. I don't trust them to keep this thing around for long.

I was thinking the same thing but Google is massive and I would assume they'd be calling the shots and not letting GameStop screw everything up.
Gamestop's upper management has no idea what to do with their business. So I don't trust them.

What's worse, I expect this to use some horribly closed source platform which means we won't be able to use other programs in it. :(

Well lets expect the worse and be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be something awesome. I don't think Google would want to create something that uses a closed source platform, would they?

Classic Video Games / Are retro games harder than current-gen?

I ask this because I am getting my ass handed to me in Donkey Kong Country as well as a slew of other SNES games. My PS3 games have not been all that hard with the exception of the notoriously difficult Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

Out of curiosity, what have been the most difficult retro games for you guys?

Sounds pretty cool, and at just $99 I wouldn't mind forking over the cash to try a new type of console. Google has made some pretty neat stuff--my chromebook is one of the best tech purchases I've made.

Nope, Final Fantasy III was never released on the PS1. It didn't see a US release until the remake for DS. So the closest you'll get is Origins (I - II), Chronicles (IV), Anthology (V - VI), VII, VIII, IX.

Okay--thanks! Have you ever played Final Fantasy III for the DS?

I've been looking for PS1 ports of Final Fantasy 1-6 and I've found them for every game except Final Fantasy III. Am I overlooking something or was there never a PS1 port for this game?

Yeah...thinking about it, it doesn't really matter to me if it's in "general" or if it's in "off-topic".

Maybe if/when we move it to "off-topic"; we could re-name it something that I like better than my original title...like..."Collector's Corner"?!

Also, sure, I agree w/ everyone just using their common sense to avoid religious/political arguments, etc.
Actually, more along the lines of what desocietas said, like a "social"/"chat"-type of community thread.

@Soera:

What was Advent Children & The Spirits Within about?

I have NO idea why the movie was called Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It had absolutely zero correlation with any Final Fantasy game. It took place on a damn space station or something! I had no idea what I was watching! I kept asking myself, "Where are the swords?! Where are the epic battles?!"

Advent Children was cool though.

Yeah there are a few subjects I refuse to participate in. Religion and politics are definitely 2 of them. I also steer clear of xbox discussions.

Xbox discussions?
