Classic Video Games / Re: Surprisingly good DS games
« on: January 18, 2021, 03:59:24 pm »
I was really surprised by...

1) Magical Starsign
2) Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes

The only two that come to mind at the moment... I am sure there were lots more!

2
When you say educational games, I say let the kiddos play Assassin's Creed. Plenty to learn there!

3
I love the PS1 library, but find it hard to play the games. The load times are a bit much and games seem to draaaaaag when playing them. The last one I was playing was Legend of Draaaaaaaaagging-Oooooooooooon. I got annoyed and had to stop. Wonder if I thought the same thing back then but just pushed through it.

I do like to pick them up on sale on the PSN and play them for a bit on the Vita. I rarely do more than immerse myself in the nostalgia though.

I am just afraid the white will be that offwhite/grey/beige/weird stained color that old electronics turned back in the 80s... :)

I think I saw this pop up somewhere before. I think it was fixed by rebuilding the database?

I saw this issue on my vita a while back. I just had to sign in to my plus account to restore the licenses.

Heroes 3: Shadows of Death and the AD&D Starter kit.

I had sacrificed all the other big boxes to moves both across the atlantic and cross Canada. They, like a bunch of my stuff were thrown out to make room or lost in a box that never arrived. :(

Honestly, it depends on how much I want it. I collect games because I WANT them. I collect series of games, so things like Dracula X or Bloodlines, or even Contra Hard Corps, are games that I will buy if I find a good condition copy. Mega Man V for Game Boy? If I have the cash on hand when I see it, MINE! I like the series and I play all of these games, so for me it is a no brainer. And we have no clue how these things will be priced in the future.

But, buying expensive games for the fact of buying games? If I see a copy of that rare Clayfighter game from Blockbuster? I'd buy it if I could get a nice profit on it, but it is not something I want to play, nor collect, so I have no real reason to collect it.

So yeah, only if I will play it and want to put it on display.

On the 18th I will be ordering both Celeste and Iconoclasts for Switch from LRG. Otherwise, Kingdom Hearts 3 will be on its way for the 29th. 5 year old preorder from a company that no longer exists (but will be honored by Best Buy) for the win!

General / Re: What is your biggest collecting regret?
« on: January 02, 2019, 02:17:41 am »
I regret a few things.

1. Selling my NES/SNES games prior to moving across the great pond to Germany. I have a bunch I have spent way more replacing...
2. Selling my GB games when I got a modded SNES in Germany... to buy US SNES games.
3. Giving away all those juicy SNES games in their complete boxes... including Earthbound. Ouch.
4. Shipping my games across country... My Suikoden II + 20ish other games... that never arrived.
5. AND FINALLY STARTING TO BUILD THIS BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION A FEW YEARS AGO. Damn you, Pierre!

I would be so much richer now... Oh well, I love looking at my shelves!

I use this site to track what I OWN when I go to conventions and retro stores. I use HLTB to track my actual backlog. Yes, I need to enter things twice, but I find it cathartic. I also have an Excel sheet for personal tracking, in case either of the online tools go down.

I don't consider digital games to be mine forever. If you look at the WiiWare service... all those exclusives are about to disappear for good. I can't get Gradius Rebirth anymore... outside of buying a console with the game already on it. So on this site, I don't track digital.

I also don't like to buy digital games anymore. I don't mind DLC, but I have been trying to find it all on sale, so yeah. Celeste physical? I might bite. The Messenger? I need that shit on disk. Or I just won't play them. I have too much stuff anyways.

General / Re: What is the main focus of your collection if you have one?
« on: January 02, 2019, 02:03:26 am »
I collect items that I want to one day play. Or stuff that I played as a kid and just want to have. Or stuff that grabs my fancy. Or stuff that I was told I need to play and I haven't and they kind of look ok.

Of course, I don't look for any cardboard boxes anymore. I just want to get some plastic cases (when I have the cash... or they start shipping them from somewhere in Canada) with nice printed labels (I have a couple that I got with games I bought at conventions, so I want to match those). I still have some of the boxes from my gb/c/a games, but would gladly sell them or exchange them against some good plastic cases... :)

Of course, in 2019, I need to cut down how much I am allowing myself to spend on games, so I will need to be even more discerning! So more research! And backlog whittling we will go!

General / Re: Grey's RPG Madness
« on: July 08, 2018, 01:47:12 am »
Gods... it would take me hours to list the RPGs I have finished over the years. And I took a couple to go through some game lists. You can subtract Zeldas if you don't believe they are RPGs... I just included them to be inclusive. Some are duplicates, but I did play them in the different versions and sometimes multiple times (like probably 20+ runs through of FF1 over the years).

151 RPGs completed on Nintendo systems. Probably 2-3 times that many if you factor in my other consoles and PC games...

Despite what my parents and girlfriend say... Time well spent!

If you want the list...

That lists looks really close! The cart itself does not jog my memory and Exerion looks like something I would have played a sa kid... but I didn't. So close! :)

Thanks, man! Just seeing some of these games in action is cathartic. The nostalgia! My dad with his Galaga... my mom with her dearest Wild Gunman... Yep, five of us took turns deciding what we would play next!

Classic Video Games / Trying to find a 20-in-1 cart that I had as a kid...
« on: December 01, 2017, 12:50:37 am »
I've been thinking of tracking this down just for the nostalgia factor. It was a famicom disk with a converter (attached with electrical tape, as we bought it damaged).

It had the following games (I am pretty sure... I will list the ones i am confidant I was there first):

Mario Bros, Ice Climber, Pinball, Galaga, Road Fighter
Wild Gunman, Star Force, Ikki, Yie Ar Kung Fu, some Mahjong game (not sure which, I couldn't read the text)
Pacman, F-1 Race, Battle Tank, Circus Charlie, Excitebike
Baseball

Not 100% sure, but pretty confidant:
Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, Donkey Kong Classics (I remember having all three as a kid, but the edition may be different)

I have been trying to remember the 20th, but it must have been a Japanese title, as I have no clue what it could be, and my memory is not being helped by reading through a complete list).

Any help would be awesome!
