I've thought about it.

Like at a hotel or bar on a weekend.

I prefer newer games.

Compare Rise of the Tomb Raider to Tomb Raider PS1 and tell me you prefer old games.

To be fair about this though old games are inherently dated by today’s standards. By the standards of back then everything was awesome, new, beautiful, fresh.

I enjoyed older games when they first came out way more than I enjoy most modern games releasing today.

Street Fighter II and Super Mario 64 blew my mind at the time Street Fighter V and Super Mario Odyssey are just good games to me now.

Off Topic / Is music worth collecting to you?
« on: March 15, 2019, 08:19:40 pm »
I thought about it and music is my most consumed media between music, movies and games.

I listen to music on my commute back and forth from work daily as well as for background noise while gaming or sitting at home.

But is it worth collecting?

Well... it’s always at my finger tips - all of it - and for free. Ignoring all the services dedicated to it, if you have an internet connection you can just search whatever you’re looking for on YouTube.

I’m not into vinyl, that wasn’t a thing I was exposed to growing up.

I have CDs but they have just sat in a cupboard gathering dust literally for years. I have Good Charlotte, Evanesence, Fallout Boy etc. literally from when they came out and the CDs haven’t crossed my mind at all.

I own them I guess, they’re backs ups I guess, I can rip the mp3 whenever I suppose. But PCs are getting made without disc drives now and any physical music collection I make is cheaply available via a streaming service.

Moreover those streaming services give access to millions of songs any song I could ever think of more or less so are much more cost effective than individual album purchases.

Public sentiment has shifted away from CDs - “who still buys CDs?” The man on the street would ask.

Why then would I want to acquire music?

I love music, a lot of it. But I can love it on my phone with a streaming app.

You’re left with the pride of ownership I suppose. But with that, while I fondly read off the band names on the spines of the pile of CDs I do have, I know that owning more would just take up more space on things I’m never going to touch.

If I bought / collected music I’d be getting clutter and something that I either have access to already either free on the internet or included in a streaming app subscription

May as well throw the whole collection out really then.

I have set up a humanitarian aid crisis GoFundMe campaign to get you the map for Vay on Sega CD.

It makes my sick crawl.

I’d only buy one if it were half the price of every boxed copy, the boxed copy was more than I wanted to pay, I really wanted to play the game and the seller said it were in very good condition.

most lose dics copies are less than half the price of a boxed copy so I don't see your complaint as far as old stuff goes.

For current gen it's different since a large group just want to play a game even if it's only slightly cheaper. aka the reason why for example gamestop charges pretty much same prices for lose discs and cib copies.
I wasn’t complaining that they aren’t half price, I was giving four pieces of criteria that would need to be met for me to buy one.

Your reading comprehension skills are very poor.

happy birthday to you. It was my birthday last month so I bought myself a game you could do somthing like that. Everyone I know refuses to buy games for me on special occasions cause they think it's a waste. So they buy me things I don't want and will never use so I'll splurge on a game for myself this works for me.
What game did you buy?

I guess it just makes sense right. It's way more convenient to search the name of a movie in say iTunes like a search engine and then hit play than it is to wait for a disc to come in the mail, or to drive to a store like Target or Best Buy and browse for it.

Logistically an online storefront is much easier to have massive amounts of movies there for browsing than a physical retail space too. So it's also more convenient for the distributor of movies, especially when it comes to older movies. Plus there's no shipping, storage, packaging etc. etc.

Thinking it through it's really just an obvious and natural progression, for consumers and for studios. As much as I can understand romanticizing a physical library/collection of movies - why would the average person bother anymore.

If you search 'blu ray' then go to auction only then sort by ending soonest, there are pages and pages of things that have no bids and just aren't selling, even at £0.99 (the lowest they can be on ebay)?

I'm really into watching collection videos, hoarding up videos, physical media debates and things of that nature on YouTube.

The passion is really cool to watch. It's a little sad to see that people can't give the stuff away.

I know it's not about the money, I'm just talking the general public perception of blu rays - anecdotally people who want them physically seem to be a tiny minority and the demand isn't there.

I also know old titles lose cultural significance and most everything depreciates in value, but when you look at PS4 games, even the old games sell.

Blu-ray Disc titles started to release in 2006 so maybe there's 13 years of shovelware there to obscure.

But I don't know man - I've watched and read a lot about this kinda stuff and DVD still outsells blu ray and Samsung aren't making more blu ray players. If DVD outsells that means there's more DVD players out there and people aren't interested in upgrading, people who want this physical media are probably older people who grew up with DVDs, and they're sticking to that format.

We're in the middle of a cultural shift where people don't want discs of stuff in their houses and don't want to go to the cinema, but just want to stream or download or watch Netflix.

What should I do?

Since your whole "collection" maybe takes up all of 16 inches horizontally, I imagine you could put them almost anywhere.

I just leave them in a pile on the floor and it doesn’t make too much mess. Especially the switch cases.

I didn't know that game cases could potentially take a dump if they haven't been teached well.

How many times do you let them out per day or do you have a litter box to keep everything clean?

Aside from that It's Nice to hear that there is not to much of a maintenace as far as taking care of game cases go, especially them switch cases.

Learning new things every day :o
Watch out guys we’re dealing with a badass over here
