General / Re: Does Anyone Else Sort Their Games By Genre?
« on: November 18, 2019, 08:24:08 pm »
Like most people, alphabetically by system - though I also separate CiB and Cartridge Only as well.

My wife keeps the DVDs/Bluerays sorted by genre and it honestly drives me a little nuts, but she spends more time in the living room than I do, so I let her do it her way.

Off Topic / Re: Do You Play Other Table Top or Card Games?
« on: November 12, 2019, 11:42:52 pm »
I started playing D&D with 2nd Edition, but stopped when 4E released. I've played a handful of other tabletop games over the years too. Call of Cthulhu, Star Wars (The West End Games version) and pretty much anything published by White Wolf. I played a Werewolf: The Apocalypse campaign that lasted almost 13 years. Sadly, I haven't been able to play much in the last 3 or 4 years or so, but I do try and get a board game night going once in a while.

I've never played a Pokemon game in my life, but my wife loves them, so I'll probably pick them up for her.

After many years of use and love, my original SNES eventually broke down and would delete the save games from any cart put in it, so I had to replace it. Other than that, I've never ha a console crash or die.

Switch for console games. I travel a lot for work, so portability is a key selling feature for me. PC for home gaming.

If you're talking about this thing, it's the Avro VZ-9. It was built by Canadian Aerospace designer Avro under contract from the United States Air Force in 1958. The project was cancelled in 1961 with only 2 prototypes manufactured.

I've met plenty of celebrities at cons and the like, but the only one I've met "in the wild" is Chuck Norris. I competed in a lot of high-level martial arts competitions when I was younger, and the head of the school I trained at was friends with him, so I've had dinner with him a couple times.

SNES is my favourite console of all time. It had some absolutely amazing games from every genre.

I've traveled a fair bit. For both work and pleasure.

I've been almost everywhere in Canada (my home country) at some point.
In the US, I haven't traveled quite as broadly. I've been to Alaska, Washington, California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New York, New Jersey and Florida
Outside continental North America I've been to Bahamas, Iceland, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

Upcoming trips (within the next two years) include Alaska, Prince Edward Island, Scotland, Ireland, and Antarctica.

The best airline I've ever flown on was Air New Zealand. Economy class on Air New Zealand is like Business class on most other airlines. Entirely worth it if you happen to be traveling to the south Pacific.

Classic Video Games / Re: Koei NES Games
« on: August 12, 2019, 06:57:46 pm »
I don't think I ever owned a Koei game on NES, but I loved, and still love Koei games on the SNES. Rot3K III, P.T.O., and Uncharted Waters/Uncharted Waters: New Horizons are probably my favourites, but there aren't any that I don't like.

I picked up a copy of Final Fantasy II(US) for dirt cheap because the label had been ripped almost off. I already had one in better condition, so I customized the label-less one.

For most systems I only collect games I actually have an interest in playing, but for SNES I have a goal of having a complete North American retail collection, so I'll get games even if the genre doesn't appeal to me.

Edit: You mentioned speed running. Depending on the game, I might pick up the Japanese release because you can get through text faster due to fewer characters.

Classic Video Games / Re: jap super gameboy on pal/ntsc consol

NTSC and NTSC-J Super Game Boy can be used interchangeably with either NTSC or NTSC-J Consoles but PAL and NTSC/NTSC-J are not compatible.

Something similar happened to me with a board game once. I bought it from ebay thinking it was just the base game, but when it showed up it had 3 or 4 expansions with it.

Alright, this is a little awkward, but I'll bite.

If you want a collection you can really be proud of, you need to focus it. Instead of collecting a bit of everything, pick the thing that really makes you happy. I have a very small collection, but I only really collect NES, SNES and Game Boy. Why? Because these are the systems I had when I was a kid, and for me, it's the nostalgia that makes me happy. Yeah, I have some newer games on PC or Switch, but I consistently go back to those earlier games. I'd love to have a complete collection for SNES, but I know that'll never happen. I'm just not willing to drop the $500 for Hagane or Aerofighters. The crown jewel of my collection is a CiB Earthbound, but that's only because I still have my copy from when I was a kid. I'd never drop $800+ for it. That's bonkers. Collect what makes you happy. It doesn't matter if it's rare or not, because when it comes down to it, the only one who needs to be impressed by your collection is you. No one else cares if you have a ton of Atari games, so there's no point in collecting them to show off. Collect them because you like them.
