General / Re: What game do you have the most copies of, and why?
« on: April 20, 2019, 01:32:40 pm »
For me, it's Secret of Mana. I have four copies - SNES NTSC, SNES PAL (DE), Super Famicom, SNES Classic

My PAL version is my first copy from when I was a kid, even though I live in North America. It was a gift from family in Germany. Neither they nor I realized at the time that North American and European video games worked on different formats. I later picked up the NTSC version to actually play, and the Super Famicom variant was just for fun to round out the collection.

There are a few other games that I have 2 or 3 versions of, but SoM beats them out with 4.

I'm not going to rank all of them, but if I had to choose five favourites, they would be, in no particular order:

1. Spirited Away
2. Princess Mononoke
3. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
4. When Marnie Was There
5. The Secret World of Arietty

I would hold onto my NES/SNES games from when I was a kid. Gotta keep that nostalgia.

If I had to make an educated guess, things of that nature would go in the 'Swag' category.

Morrowind is, in my opinion, the best of the Elder Scrolls games. The graphics are definitely dated now, but there are texture mods available that make them more bearable.

Depending on the game, Japanese versions are sometimes better for speedrunning because fewer characters makes it faster to mash through text.

I've only bought something from him once, but I had no issues. I'm in Canada and his shipping rate was pretty reasonable and it arrived quickly.

Just picked up a Majesco White Label Contra III. Not particularly valuable, but an interesting bit of SNES history.

Who tf is telling people they could have bought a Lamborghini instead of video games?

Anyone with a collection over 1000 games has heard some car.  Not always a lambo.  As your collection grows the car gets more expensive lol.  Right now my collection isn't too big.  So people say "You could have bought a car" probably meaning a Honda or any car but if you have a crazy collection they'll say "you could have bought a house or ferrari".   Their was a post on here about this but I didn't want to grave dig.

But think of all the games you could have bought if instead of that Ferrari, you bought something more sensible like a Honda.

My CIB Copy of Earthbound is probably the crown jewel of my collection for sentimental value. My Mother bought it for me for getting good marks in 6th grade. Because of the novelty of the giant oversized box, it was the only SNES game I kept the box for. It still has the Zellers price tag on the box. Zellers was a big Canadian Department Store chain that has since gone out of business.

General / Re: How intentional are you about picking up new stuff?

I try to group items by priority of how much my collection "needs" them and try to stick to buying the higher priority items. This is mostly just so I can give my collection some focus instead of just buying whatever interests me at the moment.

Picked up Romance of the Three Kingdoms II CIB today. I've never owned this game, but I rented it and others in the series as often as I could as a kid. It definitely led to my modern love of PC Grand Strategy games.

Made my first gaming pick up of the year with Breath of Fire for the SNES today. Hopefully I'll add to it as the month goes on.

I'm focusing on North American SNES for now. My long term goal is to have a complete retail collection. After that I'll probably keep my collection to Nintendo systems. If I branch out from Nintendo, it'll probably be to recreate my childhood SMS collection, as it was the first console I ever owned.
