I am surprised how even back then in 2017, LRG had that controversy between their hands

What controversy is this? I found out about LR relatively new so I'm curious.

Also, I did buy this exact Shantae Repo from LR recently. Reason being it looks well made, and beats the other repo copies on ebay being sold from HK or China (I just try to avoid anything repo produced from asia in general).

Another reason being a lot of us gamers or collectors want this original Shantae in our collection but the original is just not affordable to the vast majority of us. I just checked VGPrices and it looks like the original goes for $585 loose and $2,308 complete as of today.

I don't know about you but I sure as heck can't spend half my tuition to get my hands on an original Shantae game  :'(

I have the 2X and I have used it for my Genesis, SNES and Saturn through composite and it makes a difference compared to adapters you find on Ebay/Amazon. I used to have one myself and over time it became clear they were trash. I cant say for composite since I havent dabbled much in it but I do have my N64 right now connected through S-Video and its a pretty good solution if you dont want to go the more expensive routes like Eon 64, Ultra HDMI and other devices.

Yes, exactly my point! The ones on Amazon/Ebay aren't even worth the $20 price tag.
The system specific adapters like eon64 for n64 or the Carby for Gamecube are very attractive but the cons I guess are they are limited to just that console and also not cheap. I guess that's where the one tool fits all solution like the Retrotink shines. Have you tried using your retrotink for other consoles besides those ones you listed? Like any 6th gen consoles (Xbox, gcn, ps2)?

Classic Video Games / RetroTink - Worth it?
« on: October 20, 2020, 12:26:50 pm »
Hey All,

I was looking for an affordable option to play retro consoles on my hd tv. I know there are some great choices like the OSSC or framemeister but those are
a little too pricey for me unfortunately.

I've heard great things about the RetroTink series from Mike Chi and was wondering if anyone owns these products and their thoughts.

They recently released the Retrotink Mini ($69.99) which cuts back on costs by getting rid of Component cable compatibility which most people didn't need.

I just need something that works better than this junk below for playing systems like N64, GCN, PS1, PS2 etc.

Will the retrotink mini be worth it for that?

I truly believe that Rayman is one of those franchise that has yet to get a game that I couldn't call good.

Don't worry I don't care & some of us offline gamers gets shit from some people just go away damn it

Someone who doesn't care would not be making this post in the first place FYI.

You asked for advice, you got advice and you dismissed it rather immaturely imo. I'm personally not really upset or offended? Unlike what others' comments and concerns seems to suggest. I mean it is what it is, it's the internet lol I don't expect much from anyone. Hope things improve with your online friends. Ciao

Your statements were kinda all over the place but if I understood what you said correctly, why should you care?

Unless you and your friends are all 13 which if so might be a different story, I don't know what sane adult would give shit to their own friends for playing an offline game rather than an online game. Like as adults, who cares.

If you want to play snes mario go have a blast, if they want to play fornite go have a blast. Then you can all go out for beer later, done.

Also side note, I've never met a single person call someone who plays retro game an old person or boomer. Just go to twitch and see all the 9 year olds streaming mario 64 with their parent's laptop if you want proof.

The PS4 can't play audio CDs?! :o

Just learned this.

That’s really weird. I would have lost money on that.
Same. Knowledge is power!

I saw this mentioned in the VGCollect Autonomous thread, but I didn't post this on there because I didn't want to but in and hijack the topic. So what is your further opinions on the 8th generation consoles?

Including the overall quality of the Xbox One and The PlayStation 4 and the Wii U. compared previous generations especially the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and original Wii?

I never owned a Wii U but I am not too much of a fan of the original Wii consoles, but the original Wii console was backwards compatible with the GameCube I think?

For my opinion on the Wii U, it's not the actual hardware which was a drop in quality compared to the predecessor the Wii; rather it was a mix of errors from Nintendo. The Wii U is widely considered one of Nintendo's biggest failures considering it had very large shoes and expectations to fill after a home-run like the Wii.

First of all, the NAME. Wii U? I still can't get over it, fans were confused. Is this an upgrade to the Wii? Is it an extension? In my opinion this already sunk the boat before it left the harbor.

Second, the impression people had of the new gamepad was not good, it just seemed like a giant ipad with two analog sticks. People's opinions on this are still mixed to this day, I personally don't really mind it but if the game has Wii U pro controller compatibility, i'm sure as heck going to use it.

Third, the game library was overall just extremely weak in comparison to other Nintendo console titles. Mario 3d world, breath of the wild, smash, mario maker, mario kart 8. I mean there's a few more here and there but that's really it. Due to how poorly the system and games sold, Nintendo ported most of the big hit titles to the Switch to try and leverage for their losses on the Wii U.

Overall, the system and presentation of the Wii U at launch just did not seem that innovative, it just seemed like a mildly upgrade wii. It didn't have people jumping out of their seats like the Wii or Switch.
I mean sure it was backwards compatible with the Wii but that's really all it had going for it in terms of additional features. The Mii universe is same old, the motion control same old. The Switch really brought back Nintendo from the dark ages.

Does anyone own any products from Krikzz? If so I'm looking to own an everdrive 64 (which to those who are not familiar is basically just every n64 game loaded onto a single cartridge).

I'm not too knowledgeable in this area so I'm just curious though how is this legal, and how is Krikzz able to sell this product and make a profit off of nintendo products? Do they have some deal with nintendo?

To my understanding, the only way it becomes illegal for me is if I stream/make videos off of these games without owning the actual games correct (not that I think anyone would care enough or enforce this)?

Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks.

if I'm looking at the krizz site I'm pretty sure you have to find all the roms manually, so if your looking for all n64 roms you won't get them pre installed you'll need to find a torrent with the whole collection or all roms seperately, the hardware is perfectly legal only the roms are the problem especially big titles like mario or zelda, that is why nintendo didn't bother. he only seems to sell the software to run them original games not the roms themselves

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying that. Yeah that would make sense, if he did sell ROM's then that would be pretty illegal. So he's just selling the hardware which harbors the ROM's that the consumer has the responsibility of getting. Gotcha.

This is where your moral compass comes into play. Are you okay with playing a game you don't physically own? Would you be okay to stream or record gameplay of a game you don't physically own? This is all personal.

Anyway, in case you're interested, there's a cheaper, knockoff version of the ED64 that seems to be quite good as well called ED64Plus.

Luckily I don't intend to do any of that content creation stuff, just playing it own as a hobby or with friends. But I do see the grey area you're referring to.

And thanks for the suggestion I'll definitely need to check out ED64 as well.

Did rarityguide.com shut down or something?

I don't know how reliable that site is, some of their rarity values are really really off. For example they have Final Fantasy X at a higher rarity value than Rule of Rose on the PS2 which is absolutely ridiculous considering how you can find FFX literally anywhere and for about $10 meanwhile RoR is actually really rare and goes for like $200+ . Plus their current pricing value is also garbage and reflects nothing of current market value.
